Synthesis of ethyl (2<Emphasis Type="Italic">E</Emphasis>,4<Emphasis Type="Italic">E</Emphasis>)- and (2<Emphasis Type="Italic">E</Emphasis>,4<Emphasis Type="Italic">Z</Emphasis>)-5-chloropenta-2,4-dienoates

An efficient synthetic approach to 2E,4E and 2E,4Z isomers of ethyl 5-chloropenta-2,4-dienoate has been developed on the basis of one-pot oxidation–olefination of readily accessible (E)- and (Z)-3-chloroprop-2-en-1-ols by the action of barium manganate and ethyl (triphenyl-λ⁵-phosphanylidene)acetate.     

Stereoselective synthesis of (<Emphasis Type="Italic">Z</Emphasis>,<Emphasis Type="Italic">E</Emphasis>)-bis(2-chloroethenyl)tellanes

A procedure for the stereoselective synthesis of dichloro[(Z)-2-chloro-2-phenylethenyl][(4E)-5- chlorooct-4-en-4-yl]-λ⁴-tellane and [(Z)-2-chloro-2-phenylethenyl][(4E)-5-chlorooct-4-en-4-yl]tellane has been developed on the basis of anti-addition of tellurium tetrachloride–phenylacetylene monoadduct to oct-4-yne.     

Oxidative trifluoroacetamidation of (1<Emphasis Type="Italic">E</Emphasis>,3<Emphasis Type="Italic">E</Emphasis>)-1,4-diphenylbuta-1,3-diene and 1,1,4,4-tetraphenylbuta-1,3-diene

Reactions of trifluoroacetamide with (1E,3E)-1,4-diphenylbuta-1,3-diene and 1,1,4,4-tetraphenylbuta-1,3-diene in the oxidative system t-BuOCl–NaI have been studied. The reaction with (1E,3E)-1,4-diphenylbuta-1,3-diene afforded three products, N,N′-(phenylmethylene)bis(trifluoroacetamide), 3-chloro-4-iodo- 2,5-diphenyl-1-(trifluoroacetyl)pyrrolidine, and trifluoro-N-[(3E)-2-hydroxy-1,4-diphenylbut-3-en-1-yl]acetamide, with a high overall yield. 1,1,4,4-Tetraphenylbuta-1,3-diene failed to react with trifluoroacetamide.     

Copper-catalyzed cross-coupling of (<Emphasis Type="Italic">Z</Emphasis>)-allyl phenyl ethers with Grignard compounds in the synthesis of insect pheromones

(8Z)-Dodec-8-en-1-yl acetate (pheromone of oriental fruit moth Grapholita molesta) and (9Z)-dodec-9-en-1-yl acetate (pheromone of grape berry moth Paralobesia viteana) containing impurities of isomeric structures were synthesized via copper-catalyzed cross-coupling of (Z)-1-phenoxyhex-2-ene and (Z)-1-phenoxypent-2-ene, respectively, with Grignard compounds in the key stage.     

<Emphasis Type="Italic">N</Emphasis>-allyl and <Emphasis Type="Italic">N</Emphasis>-propargyl trifluoromethanesulfonimides. Theoretical analysis

Tautomers of N-allyl- and N-propargyl-substituted trifluoromethanesulfonimides (CF₃SO₂)₂NR (R = CH₂CH=CH₂, Z/E-CH=CHMe, CH₂C≡CH, CH=CH=CH₂, C≡CCH₂) were calculated by the DFT (B3LYP, wB97XD, PBE1PBE), MP2, and CBS-QB3 methods. The results were compared with the theoretical data for the corresponding amines and amides NHRR¹ (R¹ = H, CF₃SO₂). It was shown that there is no conjugation between the nitrogen atom and C=C bond and that conjugation exists with the C≡C bond with electron density displacement toward the nitrogen atom. The calculations of anions derived from N-allyl- and N-propargyl-trifluoromethanesulfonimides revealed the possibility of their rearrangement with elimination of trifluoromethanesulfinate anion and formation of its H-complex with N-(prop-2-en-1-ylidene)trifluoromethanesulfonamide or N-(prop-2-yn-1-ylidene)trifluoromethanesulfonamide.     

Microwave assisted synthesis of substituted (<Emphasis Type="Italic">Z</Emphasis>)-2-{[1-phenyl-3-(thiophen-2-yl)-1<Emphasis Type="Italic">H</Emphasis>-pyrazol- 4-yl]methylene}benzofuran-3(2<Emphasis Type="Italic">H</Emphasis>)-ones and their antimicrobial activity

Aurones, pyrazole and thiophene scaffolds are known for their potential antimicrobial activity. Herein, we have synthesized hybrid compounds containing three substituted (Z)-2-{[1-phenyl-3-(thiophen-2-yl)- 1H-pyrazol-4-yl]methylene}benzofuran-3(2H)-ones that had been produced from substituted (E)-1-(2-hydroxyphenyl)- 3-[1-phenyl-3-(thiophen-2-yl)-1H-pyrazol-4-yl]prop-2-en-1-ones in high yields. All synthesized compounds were tested in vitro for their antimicrobial activity. Several of those demonstrated promising activity against some fungal and bacterial strains.     

Cyclopropanation of methyl (2<Emphasis Type="Italic">E</Emphasis>)-3-[(1<Emphasis Type="Italic">R</Emphasis>,6<Emphasis Type="Italic">S</Emphasis>)-7,7-dimethyl-2-oxo-3-oxabicyclo[4.1.0]hept-4-en-4-yl]prop-2-enoate with dichlorocarbene and diazomethane

Cyclopropanation of methyl (2E)-3-[(1R,6S)-7,7-dimethyl-2-oxo-3-oxabicyclo[4.1.0]hept-4-en-4-yl]prop-2-enoate with dichlorocarbene occurred at the endocyclic double bond, while its reaction with diazomethane in the presence of Pd(acac)₂ involved the exocyclic double bond. The resulting lactones reacted with sodium methoxide in methanol via opening of one cyclopropane fragment.     

Microwave-assisted synthesis of 1-{2-[(1-benzyl-1<Emphasis Type="Italic">H</Emphasis>-1,2,3-triazol-4-yl)methoxy]phenyl}-3-(3-aryl-1-phenyl-1<Emphasis Type="Italic">H</Emphasis>-pyrazol-4-yl)prop-2-en-1-ones and their antimicrobial activity

A series of new (E)-1-{2-[(1-benzyl-1H-1,2,3-triazol-4-yl)methoxy]phenyl}-3-(3-aryl-1-phenyl-1H-pyrazol-4-yl)prop-2-en-1-ones (3a–3i) has been synthesized via copper-catalyzed 1,3-dipolar azide-alkyne cycloaddition reaction (CuAAC) of benzyl azide with substituted (E)-3-(3-aryl-1-phenyl-1H-pyrazol-4-yl)-1-[2-(prop-2-ynyloxy)phenyl]prop-2-en-1-ones (2a–2i). The synthesized compounds have been characterized by their IR, ^lH, ¹³C NMR spectra, and mass spectroscopy data. All the compounds have been screened for antimicrobial activity.     

Reaction of ethyl 4-[(<Emphasis Type="Italic">E</Emphasis>)-1-chloro-3-oxoprop-1-en-1-yl]-3,5-dimethyl-1<Emphasis Type="Italic">H</Emphasis>-pyrrole-2-carboxylate with hydrazines

Ethyl 4-[(E)-1-chloro-3-oxoprop-1-en-1-yl]-3,5-dimethyl-1H-pyrrole-2-carboxylate reacted with substituted hydrazines in different solvents to give mixtures of regioisomeric 3- and 5-substituted pyrazoles. Conditions were found for selective formation of 1-aryl(alkyl)-5-(5-ethoxycarbonyl-2,4-dimethyl-1H-pyrrol-3-yl)-1H-pyrazoles.     

Synthesis of <Emphasis Type="Italic">ortho</Emphasis>-carboranyl derivatives of (<Emphasis Type="Italic">S</Emphasis>)-asparagine and (<Emphasis Type="Italic">S</Emphasis>)-glutamine

(S)-Asparagine and (S)-glutamine ortho-carboranyl derivatives with free amino and carboxy groups in the α-position were synthesized. By an example of N ^γ-(1,2-dicarba-closo-dodecarboran-3-yl)-(S)-glutamine it was demonstrated that the developed synthetic approach carboranyl derivatives of amino acids allowed the preparation of optically pure isomers.     

Synthesis and structure of bis(1,2-diaminoethane) copper(II) bis(<Emphasis Type="Italic">o</Emphasis>-hydroxybenzoate) monohydrate and <Emphasis Type="Italic">trans</Emphasis>-diaquabis(1,2-diaminoethane)copper(II) bis(<Emphasis Type="Italic">o</Emphasis>-aminobenzoate)

X-ray structural analysis has been performed for two complex compounds: Cu(en)₂(o-HB)₂H₂O (I) (a = 16.873(4) Å, b = 8.713(2) Å, c = 14.803(3) Å, β = 91.15(2)°, V = 2175.8(8) ų, C2/c, Z = 4, R(F) = 0.0263, 1516 reflections with I > 3σ (I)) and [Cu(en)₂(OH₂)₂]²⁺(o-AB^?)₂ (II) (a = 7.488(5) Å, b = 22.122(8) Å, c = 7.856(5) Å, β = 118.77(2)°, V = 1140.7(11) ų, P2₁/n, Z = 2, R(F) = 0.0432, 1684 reflections with I > 3σ(I)) synthesized under identical conditions (en is ethylenediamine, o-HB is o-hydroxybenzoate, and o-AB is o-aminobenzoate). Although the compounds were assumed to have similar structures and the Cu-Lig bond lengths and the cis and trans angles are acceptable for an octahedral structure, the geometric parameters of o-HB suggest that the copper atom has a plane square environment.     

Synthesis and structure of Pt(II) acetamidate complexes containing <Emphasis Type="Italic">N</Emphasis>,<Emphasis Type="Italic">N</Emphasis>-dimethyl-substituted ethylenediamine and trimethylenediamine

Reactions of acetamide with platinum(II) diamines [Pt(N,N-DimeEn)Cl₂], [Pt(Tm)Cl₂], and [Pt(N,N-DimeTm)Cl₂] (N,N-DimeEn = (CH₃)₂N(CH₂)₂NH₂, Tm = NH₂(CH₂)₃NH₂, N,N-DimeTm = (CH₃)₂N(CH₂)₃NH₂) with preliminary precipitation of chlorine ions by silver salts gave binuclear Pt(II) acetamidates [Pt₂(CH₃)₂N(CH₂)₂NH₂)₂(μ-NHCOCH₃)₂](NO₃)₂ · H₂O (I), [Pt₂(NH₂(CH₂)₃NH₂)₂)(μ-NHCOCH₃)₂](NO₃)₂ · H₂O (II), and [Pt₂(CH₃)₂N(CH₂)₃NH₂)₂(μ-NHCOCH₃)₂](HSO₄)₂ (III), whose crystal structures were determined. Crystals of I are monoclinic: a = 14.459(2) Å, b = 17.197(3) Å, c = 9.822(2) Å, β = 105.923(10)°, V = 3348.6(8) ų, space group P2(1)/c, Z = 4, R _hkl = 0.0419 for 6663 reflections. Complex I is a binuclear acetamidate with bridging (NHCOCH₃)^? ligands, one of which is bound to two Pt atoms through the N and O atoms, and the other ligand is bound only through the N atom. The Pt-Pt distance is 2.987(1) Å. Crystals of II are monoclinic: a = 10.213(7) Å, b = 13.373(9) Å, c = 16.533(11) Å, β = 97.971(9)°, V = 2236(3) ų, space group P2(1)/n, Z = 4, R _hkl = 0.557 for 6462 reflections. The Pt-Pt distance is 3.057(1) Å. Crystals of III are monoclinic: a = 10.557(12) Å, b = 18.531(2) Å, c = 14.4744(17) Å, β = 108.705(2)°, V = 2682(5) ų, space group P2(1)/n, Z = 4, R _hkl = 0.569 for 8506 reflections. The Pt-Pt distance is 3.202(1) Å. Complexes II and III are binuclear acetamidates, in which two chelating Pt(Tm) or Pt(N,N-DimeTm) moieties are coordinated through the N and O atoms of (NHCOCH₃)^? cis-bridges.     

Iron-Catalyzed Synthesis of 2-[(2<Emphasis Type="Italic">E</Emphasis>)-Hex-2-en-1-yl]cyclopentanone

An efficient synthesis of a widely used fragrance, 2-[(2E)-hex-2-en-1-yl]cyclopentan-1-one, has been developed on the basis of iron-catalyzed cross-coupling of 2-[(2E)-3-chloroprop-2-en-1-yl]cyclopentan-1- one with propylmagnesium bromide.     

Synthesis of 2-(halomethyl)-3,4-dihydro-2<Emphasis Type="Italic">H</Emphasis>-pyrido[2,1-<Emphasis Type="Italic">b</Emphasis>][1,3]oxazinium halides

Alkylation of pyridin-2(1H)-one and 5-nitropyridin-2(1H)-one with 4-bromobut-1-ene afforded a mixture of N- and O-butenyl derivatives. 1-(But-3-en-1yl)pyridin-2(1H)-one and 1-(but-3-en-1-yl)-5-nitropyridin- 2(1H)-one reacted with bromine and iodine to give 2-(halomethyl)-3,4-dihydro-2H-pyrido[2,1-b][1,3]-oxazinium halides.     

Molecular structure of (4Z)-{[(1<Emphasis Type="Italic">R</Emphasis>,6<Emphasis Type="Italic">S</Emphasis>)-7,7-dimethyl-2-oxo-3-oxabicyclo [4.1.0] hept-4-en-4-yl]methylene}-2-phenyl-l,3-oxazol-5(4H)-one

The (4Z)- {[(1R, 6S)-7,7-dimethyl-2-oxo-3-oxabicyclo[4.1.0]hept-4-en-4-yl]methylene}-2-phenyl-1,3-oxazol-5(4H)-one compound is synthesized and its molecular structure is determined.     

Synthesis and X-ray study of 6<Emphasis Type="Italic">H</Emphasis>-chromeno[3,4-<Emphasis Type="Italic">e</Emphasis>][1,3,4]triazolo[2,3-<Emphasis Type="Italic">a</Emphasis>]pyrimidine

2-Dimethylamino methylenechromanone 1 reacted with 4H-1,2,4-triazol-3-amine in acetic acid to give only one isolated product which was identified by X-ray study as 6H-chromeno[3,4-e][1,3,4]triazolo[2,3-a]-pyrimidine. The molecular structure of 3, C₁₂H₈N₄O, was determined to be monoclinic, P2₁/c, a = 16.3875(5), b = 8.8378(3), c = 13.8392(5) Å, β = 101.190(1)°, V = 1966.22(11) ų, Z = 8.     

Features of reactions between (3,5-dioxo-4-azatricyclo-[5.2.1.0<Superscript>2-<Emphasis Type="Italic">endo</Emphasis>,6-<Emphasis Type="Italic">endo</Emphasis></Superscript>]dec-8-en-4-yl)carboxylic acids and <Emphasis Type="Italic">p</Emphasis>-nitrophenyl azide

Reactions were performed of (3,5-dioxo-4-azatricyclo[5.2.1.0^{2-endo,6-endo} ]dec-8-en-4-yl)carboxylic acids and their derivatives with p-nitrophenyl azide. A significant fact of the involvement of the carboxy group into the formation of aziridine ring was established and the intermolecular character of this process was confirmed. The structure of compounds synthesized was proved by IR and ¹H NMR spectra.     

Atropisomeric <Emphasis Type="Italic">N</Emphasis>-acyl-<Emphasis Type="Italic">N</Emphasis>-(cyclopentenylphenyl)glycines in the synthesis of oxazolo[3,4-<Emphasis Type="Italic">a</Emphasis>]benzoxazocinones

Intramolecular [3+2]-cycloaddition was studied of munchnones generated at heating syn- and anti-atropisomers of N-acyl-N-[6-methyl-2-(cyclopent-2-en-1-yl)phenyl]glycines with acetic anhydride. By spectral and X-ray diffraction analysis syn-isomers of acids and tetrahydro-1,4,7-methanetriyl[1,3]oxazolo[3,4-a][1]- bensazocin-3(3aH)-ones were identified.     

Microwave assisted selective synthesis of (<Emphasis Type="Italic">E</Emphasis>)-1-(4-Chloro-7-hydroxy-2-aryl-2<Emphasis Type="Italic">H</Emphasis>-chromen-6-yl)-3-arylprop-2-en-1-ones and their antimicrobial activity

A series of new (E)-1-(4-chloro-7-hydroxy-2-aryl-2H-chromen-6-yl)-3-arylprop-2-en-1-ones (2a–2f) have been synthesized by selective mono cyclization of 4,6-dicinnamoyl resorcinols (1a–1f) using Vilsmeier–Haack reagent under conventional heating and microwave irradiation. The structures of the synthesized compounds have been elucidated by elemental analysis, IR, ¹H NMR, ¹³C NMR and Mass spectral data. The synthesized compounds were tested in vitro for antimicrobial activity.     

Synthesis and bromination/dehydrobromination of <Emphasis Type="Italic">N,N</Emphasis>-diallyltrifluoromethanesulfonamide

The reaction of triflluoromethanesulfonamide with allyl bromide in dimethyl sulfoxide gave N,N-diallyltrifluoromethanesulfonamide which was subjected to bromination with 1 and 2 equiv of bromine. The product of bromine addition to both allyl groups, CF₃SO₂N(CH₂CHBrCH₂Br)₂, was found to exist as a mixture of two diastereoisomers at a ratio of 9: 11. Its dehydrobromination by the action of sodium methoxide was chemoselective with successive elimination of one, two, and three hydrogen bromide molecules to afford N-(2-bromoprop-2-en-1-yl)-N-(2,3-dibromopropyl)trifluoromethanesulfonamide, N,N-bis(2-bromoprop-2-en-1-yl)trifluoromethanesulfonamide, and N-(2-bromoprop-2-en-1-yl)-N-(propadienyl)trifluoromethanesulfonamide, respectively.
