Chen-Ruan cohomology of some moduli spaces of parabolic vector bundles

Let (X,D) be an ?-pointed compact Riemann surface of genus at least two. For each point x∈D, fix parabolic weights such that . Fix a holomorphic line bundle ξ over X of degree one. Let PMξ denote the moduli space of stable parabolic vector bundles, of rank two and determinant ξ, with parabolic structure over D and parabolic weights . The group of order two line bundles over X acts on PMξ by the rule E_∗⊗L?E_∗⊗L. We compute the Chen-Ruan cohomology ring of the corresponding orbifold.

Algebraic loop groups and moduli spaces of bundles

We study algebraic loop groups and affine Grassmannians in positive characteristic. The main results are normality of Schubert-varieties, the construction of line-bundles on the affine Grassmannian, and the proof that they induce line-bundles on the moduli-stack of torsors. Bivariate hermite interpolation and applications to Algebraic Geometry

Summary We try to solve the bivariate interpolation problem (1.3) for polynomials (1.1), whereS is a lower set of lattice points, and for theq-th interpolation knot,A _q is the set of orders of derivatives that appear in (1.3). The number of coefficients |S| is equal to the number of equations |A _q |. If this is possible for all knots in general position, the problem is almost always solvable (=a.a.s.). We seek to determine whether (1.3) is a.a.s. An algorithm is given which often gives a positive answer to this. It can be applied to the solution of a problem of Hirschowitz in Algebraic Geometry. We prove that for Hermite conditions (1.3) (when allA _q are lower triangles of orderp) andP is of total degreen, (1.3) is a.a.s. for allp=1, 2, 3 and alln, except for the two casesp=1,n=2 andp=1,n=4.Dedicated to R. Geometry of moduli spaces of rational curves in linear sections of Grassmannian Gr(2,5)

We prove that the moduli spaces of rational curves of degree at most 3 in linear sections of the Grassmannian $\mathrm{G}\mathrm{r}(2,5)$ are all rational varieties. We also study their compactifications and birational geometry.     

The p-rank strata of the moduli space of hyperelliptic curves

We prove results about the intersection of the p-rank strata and the boundary of the moduli space of hyperelliptic curves in characteristic p?3. This yields a strong technique that allows us to analyze the stratum of hyperelliptic curves of genus g and p-rank f. Using this, we prove that the endomorphism ring of the Jacobian of a generic hyperelliptic curve of genus g and p-rank f is isomorphic to Z if g?4. Furthermore, we prove that the Z/?-monodromy of every irreducible component of is the symplectic group Sp2g(Z/?) if g?3, and ?≠p is an odd prime (with mild hypotheses on ? when f=0). These results yield numerous applications about the generic behavior of hyperelliptic curves of given genus and p-rank over finite fields, including applications about Newton polygons, absolutely simple Jacobians, class groups and zeta functions.     

Nonarithmetic uniformization of some real moduli spaces

Some real moduli spaces can be presented as real hyperbolic space modulo a non-arithmetic group. The whole moduli space is made from some incommensurable arithmetic pieces, in the spirit of the construction of Gromov and Piatetski-Shapiro.     

On the moduli stack of commutative, 1-parameter formal groups

We commence a general algebro-geometric study of the moduli stack of commutative, 1-parameter formal groups. We emphasize the pro-algebraic structure of this stack: it is the inverse limit, over varying n, of moduli stacks of n-buds, and these latter stacks are algebraic. Our main results pertain to various aspects of the height stratification relative to fixed prime p on the stacks of buds and formal groups.     

On some moduli spaces of stable vector bundles on cubic and quartic threefolds

We study certain moduli spaces of stable vector bundles of rank 2 on cubic and quartic threefolds. In many cases under consideration, it turns out that the moduli space is complete and irreducible and a general member has vanishing intermediate cohomology. In one case, all except one component of the moduli space has such vector bundles.     

Absolutely split real algebraic vector bundles over a real form of projective space

Let M be a projective variety, defined over the field of real numbers, with the property that the base change MR_×C is isomorphic to CPN for some N. A real algebraic vector bundle E over M will be called absolutely split if the vector bundle ER_⊗C over MR_×C splits into a direct sum of line bundles. We classify the isomorphism classes of absolutely split vector bundles over M.     

Algebraic degeneracy of non-Archimedean analytic maps

We prove non-Archimedean analogs of results of Noguchi and Winkelmann showing algebraic degeneracy of rigid analytic maps to projective varieties omitting an effective divisor with sufficiently many irreducible components relative to the rank of the group they generate in the Néron-Severi group of the variety.     

Generators for the tautological algebra of the moduli space of curves

In this paper, we prove that the tautological algebra in cohomology of the moduli space M_g of smooth projective curves of genus g is generated by the first [g/3] Mumford-Morita-Miller classes. This solves a part of Faber's conjecture (Moduli of Curves and Abelian Varieties Vieweg, Braunschweig, 1999) concerning the structure of the tautological algebra affirmatively. More precisely, for any k we express the kth Mumford-Morita-Miller class e_k as an explicit polynomial in the lower classes for all genera g=3k−1,3k−2,…,2.     

Algebraic solutions of the Lamé equation, revisited

A minor error in the necessary conditions for the algebraic form of the Lamé equation to have a finite projective monodromy group, and hence for it to have only algebraic solutions, is pointed out (see Baldassarri, J. Differential Equations 41 (1) (1981) 44). It is shown that if the group is the octahedral group S₄, then the degree parameter of the equation may differ by ±1/6 from an integer; this possibility was missed. The omission affects a recent result on the monodromy of the Weierstrass form of the Lamé equation (see Churchill, J. Symbolic Comput. 28 (4-5) (1999) 521). The Weierstrass form, which is a differential equation on an elliptic curve, may have, after all, an octahedral projective monodromy group.

Intersection Poincaré Polynomial for Nagaraj–Seshadri moduli space

We compute Betti numbers of both the components of the moduli space of rank 2 semi‐stable torsion‐free sheaves with fixed determinant over a reducible nodal curve with two smooth components intersecting at a node. We also compute the intersection Betti numbers of the moduli space.     

Algebraic properties of grids of projective lines

In this paper we compute the generators, the Hilbert function, and the Hilbert polynomial of the projective closure of affine lines which are parallel to the coordinate axes and pass through a lattice of points. We also consider the Cohen-Macaulay and seminormality property of their homogeneous coordinate ring. These lines are said to form a grid.     

Clutching and gluing in tropical and logarithmic geometry

The classical clutching and gluing maps between the moduli stacks of stable marked algebraic curves are not logarithmic, i.e. they do not induce morphisms over the category of logarithmic schemes, since they factor through the boundary. Using insight from tropical geometry, we enrich the category of logarithmic schemes to include so-called sub-logarithmic morphisms and show that the clutching and gluing maps are naturally sub-logarithmic. Building on the recent framework developed by Cavalieri, Chan, Wise, and the third author, we further develop a stack-theoretic counterpart of these maps in the tropical world and show that the resulting maps naturally commute with the process of tropicalization.
