The BMK density functional theory method has been used to examine the redox potentials of organic radicals in different solvents (DMF, N,N-dimethylformamide; DMSO, dimethyl sulfoxide; MeCN, acetonitrile). The polarizable continuum solvation model (PCM) was used to describe the solvation-free energies. The one-electron electrochemical standard potentials (E 0) of ca. 100 organic radicals in three solvents were calculated using a single, unified theoretical method whose reliability has been tested against almost all the available experimental data. It was found that the mean absolute deviation (MAD) between the theory and experiment was about 0.08 V. With the newly developed theoretical method in hand, more redox potentials of organic radicals in these three solvents were predicted by this single, unified method. The results showed that the redox potentials of organic radicals in different organic solvents including DMF and DMSO had good correlations with their redox potentials in MeCN.  相似文献

The radical anions and radical cations of the two tautomers (1e and 1i) of 5,10,15,20-tetraphenyl N-confused free-base porphyrin have been studied using a combination of cyclic voltammetry, steady state absorption spectroscopy, and computational chemistry. N-Confused porphyrins (NCPs), alternatively called 2-aza-21-carba-5,10,15,20-tetraphenylporphyrins or inverted porphyrins, are of great interest for their potential as building blocks in assemblies designed for artificial photosynthesis, and understanding the absorption spectra of the corresponding radical ions is paramount to future studies in multicomponent arrays where electron-transfer reactions are involved. NCP 1e was shown to oxidize at a potential of E(ox) 0.65 V vs Fc(+)|Fc in DMF and reduce at E(red) -1.42 V, while the corresponding values for 1i in toluene were E(ox) 0.60 V and E(red) -1.64 V. The geometries of these radical ions were computed at the B3LYP/6-31+G(d)//B3LYP/6-31G(d) level in the gas phase and in solution using the polarizable continuum model (PCM). From these structures and that of H(2)TPP and its corresponding radical ions, the computed redox potentials for 1e and 1i were calculated using the Born-Haber cycle. While the computed reduction potentials and electron affinities were in excellent agreement with the experimental reduction potentials, the calculated oxidation potentials displayed a somewhat less ideal relationship with experiment. The absorption spectra of the four radical ions were also measured experimentally, with radical cations 1e(?+) and 1i(?+) displaying significant changes in the Soret and Q-band regions as well as new low energy absorption bands in the near-IR region. The changes in the absorption spectra of radical anions 1e(?-) and 1i(?-) were not as dramatic, with the changes occurring only in the Soret and Q-band regions. These results were favorably modeled using time-dependent density functional calculations at the TD-B3LYP/6-31+G(d)//B3LYP/6-31G(d) level. These results were also compared to the existing data of free base tetraphenylporphyrin and free base tetraphenylchlorin.  相似文献

We estimated one-electron reduction potentials of redox-active organic molecules for a spectrum of eight different functional groups (phenoxyl, p-benzoquinone, phenylthiyl, p-benzodithiyl, carboxyl, benzoyloxyl, carbthiyl, and benzoylthiyl) in protic (water) and aprotic (acetonitrile, N,N-dimethylacetamide) solvents. Electron affinities (EA) were evaluated in a vacuum with high level quantum chemical methods using Gaussian3-MP2 (G3MP2) and Becke 3 Lee, Yang, and Parr functional B3LYP with aug-cc-pVTZ basis set. To evaluate one-electron redox potentials, gas-phase free energies were combined with solvation energies obtained in a two-step computational approach. First, atomic partial charges were determined in a vacuum by the quantum chemical method B3LYP/6-31G(d,p). Second, solvation energies were determined, solving the Poisson equation with these atomic partial charges. Redox potentials computed this way, compared to experimental data for the 21 considered organic compounds in different solvents, yielded overall root-mean-square deviations of 0.058 and 0.131 V using G3MP2 or B3LYP to compute electronic energies, respectively, while B3LYP/6-31G(d,p) was used to compute solvation energies.  相似文献

Adiabatic and vertical ionization potentials (IPs) and valence electron affinities (EAs) of alaninamide in gas phase have been determined using density functional theory (BLYP,B3LYP,B3P86) methods with 6-311++G(d,p) basis set,respectively. IPs and EAs of alaninamide in solutions have been calculated at the B3LYP/6-311++G(d,p) level. Quantum chemical calculations of solvation energy for ferrocene and cobaltocene molecules and their ionic forms in water, acetonitrile, methanol, and acetone are performed in terms of the B3LYP density functional method by taking into account solvation effects and using the polarized continuum model (PCM). Standard electrode potentials of the corresponding redox pairs, the effect of solvent on them, and the overall energy of the transfer of cobaltocene cation and anion between two solvents are calculated. The calculation results well agree with the available experimental data. The present study provides sufficiently reliable grounds for the application of an ion—metallocene molecule redox pair as a pilot system for the comparison of electrode potentials and solvation energies in different solvents.  相似文献

Experimental redox potentials of the couples [Cu(R-L ( n ))(CH 3CN)] (2+,+), where L (1) is bis-(pyridine-2-ylmethyl)-benzylamine, L (2) is (pyridine-2-ylethyl)(pyridine-2-ylmethyl)-benzylamine, and R is H, Me, or CF 3, were determined in dichloromethane solution. The compounds exhibited one simple quasi-reversible wave over the measured potential range of -500 to +1200 mV, and the E 1/2 values varied from +200 to +850 mV versus SCE. These experimental values were correlated with redox potentials calculated using density functional theory. The optimized geometries and the predicted redox potentials were obtained using the BP86 functional and a combination of the basis sets LACV3P** (for Cu) and cc-pVTZ(-f) (for light atoms). A distortion analysis of all of the optimized geometries for both oxidation states was performed using the generalized interconversion coordinate phi. A linear relation was obtained between this parameter and the redox potentials. However, the [Cu(CF 3-L (1))(CH 3CN)] (+) complex showed the largest deviation, which was explained by the more-rigid structure of the ligand.  相似文献

Dopamine (DA) can be oxidized to dopamine quinone (DAquinone) through a one-step, two-electron redox reaction. The electron transfer property of DA and its supramolecular complex with aspartic acid (Asp) has been investigated by the theoretical calculations. We calculated the standard redox potentials (E o) of DA/DAquinone at the MP2/6-31G(d,p)//B3LYP/6-31G(d,p), MP2/6-31+G(d,p)//B3LYP/6-31+G(d,p), MP2/6-31G(d,p)//B3LYP/6-311G(d,p), and MP2/6-311+G(d,p)//B3LYP/6-311+G(d,p) levels. Comparing the experimental value, the redox potentials of DA/DAquinone obtained at MP2//B3LYP/6-311G(d,p) and MP2//B3LYP/6-311+G(d,p) levels can be considered as the upper and lower estimates. DA can form supramolecular complex (DA-Asp) with Asp through hydrogen bond (H-bond). Therefore, the values of 0.631 and 0.628 V obtained at MP2//B3LYP/6-311G(d,p) and MP2//B3LYP/6-311+G(d,p) levels for DA-Asp/DAquinone-Asp can be proposed as the upper and lower estimates of a probable (about 0.630 V) value of the corresponding redox potential. The calculated E o values of DA-Asp/DAquinone-Asp at the four theoretical levels are upper than those of DA/DAquinone, which indicates that the formation of H-bonds weaken the electron-donating ability of DA.  相似文献

The antiaromaticity of a series of dications of p-substituted diphenylmethylidene fluorenes was explored using three criteria attributed to aromaticity/antiaromaticity. The relative stability of the dications (energetic criterion) was measured via the redox potentials obtained by electrochemical oxidation under very fast sweep rates with microelectrodes. Comparison of redox potentials with those of a model system, p-substituted tetraphenylethylenes, shows relatively small destabilization of the potentially antiaromatic fluorenylidene dication. However, the amount of destabilization is comparable with the limited electrochemical data available for other antiaromatic systems. Nucleus independent chemical shifts (NICS) were calculated for these dications (magnetic criterion) and indicated their antiaromaticity. A good linear relationship between experimental and calculated (B3LYP/6-31G(d)) (1)H and (13)C NMR shifts for the three dications, 3c, 3e, and 3f, for which NMR data has been reported, validated the accuracy of the NICS values. Bond length alternation/elongation (structural criterion) was explored via the harmonic oscillator model of aromaticity (HOMA) using the geometries calculated with density functional theory, but there was insufficient variation to evaluate relative antiaromaticity. In addition, the presence of benzannulation appears to restrict bond length alternation to such an extent that the magnitude of the HOMA index is of little use in evaluating the antiaromaticity of many polycyclic hydrocarbons. Both NICS values and redox potentials for formation of the dication in these systems show a strong linear correlation with sigma(p)(+) values, with the more antiaromatic fluorenylidene dication possessing the more electron-withdrawing substituent. The correlation between NICS values and redox potentials is also good, as might be expected, suggesting a strong relationship between magnetic and energetic characteristics of antiaromaticity. However, magnetic characteristics appear to be a more sensitive probe than energetic characteristics evaluated through redox potentials or structural characteristics evaluated through HOMA calculations.  相似文献

The range of electrochemical stability of a series of weakly coordinating halogenated (Hal=F, Cl, Br, I) 1‐carba‐closo‐dodecaborate anions, [1‐R‐CB11X5Y6]? (R=H, Me; X=H, Hal, Me; Y=Hal), has been established by using quantum chemical calculations and electrochemical methods. The structures of the neutral and dianionic radicals, as well as the anions, have been optimized by using DFT calculations at the PBE0/def2‐TZVPP level. The calculated structures are in good agreement with existing experimental data and with previous calculations. Their gas‐phase ionization energies and electron affinities were calculated based on their optimized structures and were compared with experimental (cyclic and square‐wave) voltammetry data. Electrochemical oxidation was performed in MeCN at room temperature and in liquid sulfur dioxide at lower temperatures. All of the anions show a very high resistance to the onset of oxidation (2.15–2.85 V versus Fc0/+), with only a minor dependence of the oxidation potential on the different halogen substituents. In contrast, the reduction potentials in MeCN are strongly substituent dependent (?1.93 to ?3.32 V versus Fc0/+). The calculated ionization energies and electron affinities correlate well with the experimental redox potentials, which provide important verification of the thermodynamic validity of the mostly irreversible redox processes that are observed for this series. The large electrochemical windows that are afforded by these anions indicate their suitability for electrochemical applications, for example, as supporting electrolytes.  相似文献

Adiabatic and vertical ionization potentials (IPs) of nine conformers of dopamine in the gas phase are determined using density functional theory (DFT) B3LYP, B3P86, B3PW91 methods and high level ab initio HF method with 6-311++G** basis set, respectively. And the nine stable cationic states have been found in the ionization process of dopamine. Vertical ionization potentials of nine conformers of dopamine are calculated using the older outer-valence Green’s function (OVGF) calculations at 6-311++G** basis set. Vibrational frequencies and infrared spectrum intensities of G1b and G1b+ at B3LYP/6-311++G** level are discussed.  相似文献

We used two theoretical methods to estimate reduction potentials and acidity constants in Mn superoxide dismutase (MnSOD), namely combined quantum mechanical and molecular mechanics (QM/MM) thermodynamic cycle perturbation (QTCP) and the QM/MM-PBSA approach. In the latter, QM/MM energies are combined with continuum solvation energies calculated by solving the Poisson-Boltzmann equation (PB) or by the generalised Born approach (GB) and non-polar solvation energies calculated from the solvent-exposed surface area. We show that using the QTCP method, we can obtain accurate and precise estimates of the proton-coupled reduction potential for MnSOD, 0.30±0.01 V, which compares favourably with experimental estimates of 0.26-0.40 V. However, the calculated potentials depend strongly on the DFT functional used: The B3LYP functional gives 0.6 V more positive potentials than the PBE functional. The QM/MM-PBSA approach leads to somewhat too high reduction potentials for the coupled reaction and the results depend on the solvation model used. For reactions involving a change in the net charge of the metal site, the corresponding results differ by up to 1.3 V or 24 pK(a) units, rendering the QM/MM-PBSA method useless to determine absolute potentials. However, it may still be useful to estimate relative shifts, although the QTCP method is expected to be more accurate.  相似文献

The effect of substituents on the oxidation potential for the one-electron reaction of 1,4-dimethoxybenzene was understood with a theoretical calculation based on density functional theory (DFT) at the level of B3LYP/6-311+G(d). It is found that the oxidation potential for the one-electron reaction of 1,4-dimethoxybenzene is 4.13 V (vs Li/Li(+)) and can be changed from 3.8 to 5.9 V (vs Li/Li(+)) by substituting electron-donating or electron-withdrawing groups for the hydrogen atoms on the aromatic ring. These potentials are in the range of the limited potentials for the lithium ion batteries using different cathode materials, and thus the substituted compounds can be selected as the redox shuttles for the overcharge prevention of these batteries. The oxidation potential of 1,4-dimethoxybenzene decreases when the hydrogen atoms are replaced with electron-donating groups but increases when replaced with electron-withdrawing groups. The further oxidation of these substituted compounds was also analyzed on the basis of the theoretic calculation.  相似文献

氧化还原电动势是了解核酸中电荷/电子转移过程以及设计具有新型氧化还原活性的碱基类化合物的重要参数. 本文对82个芳香化合物的氧化还原电动势进行理论预测, 通过计算值和实验值的比较发现: 气相采用B3LYP/6-311++G(2df,2p)//B3LYP/6-31+G(d)方法, 液相采用HF-COSMORS/UAHF方法, 对运用HF- CPCM/UAHF方法在水相重新优化的构型计算溶剂化能, 能有效预测芳香化合物水相氧化还原电动势, 该理论方法计算的绝对均方根误差(RMSD)为0.124 V. 运用该理论方法成功预测了属于芳香化合物的核酸碱基及其代谢物的水相氧化还原电动势. 根据预测结果, 讨论了核酸中电荷/电子转移过程以及结构改变对设计具有新型氧化还原活性的核酸碱基类化合物的影响. 本文为设计具有氧化还原活性的新型核酸碱基类化合物提供了一种理论方法.  相似文献

Redox potentials for two stepwise anodic oxidations of a series of carbamates in methanolic solution have been calculated using ab initio and DFT quantum mechanical methods. Hartree-Fock method and Density Functional Theory at the B3LYP level, together with 6-31G(d), 6-31G(d,p) and 6-311++G(2df,2p) basis sets have been used for the calculation. The Polarizable Continuum Model (PCM) is used to describe the solute-solvent interactions of carbamates, and those of their radical-cations and cations. Linear relationships were observed between the theoretically predicted redox potential values and the corresponding anodic peak potentials obtained by cyclic voltammetry or the corresponding calculated energies of the Highest Occupied Molecular Orbital (HOMO) of these carbamates.  相似文献

利用六种密度泛函理论方法(B3LYP, B3P86, MPW1K, TPSS1KCIS, X3LYP, BMK)对碳氯键离解能进行理论计算,结果发现几种新发展的密度泛函(DFT)方法用于碳氯键离解能的计算比传统的B3LYP有较大的改善,其中对能量估算相对准确的B3P86方法对碳氯键离解能的计算精度最高,对17个分子中碳氯键离解能计算的平均绝对偏差为6.58 kJ/mol。最后运用B3P86方法对一系列环境危害较大,但可通过光化学降解和生物降解的氯代有机物的碳氯键离解能值进行预测,并讨论了影响碳氯键离解能的结构性质关系。  相似文献

Density functional theory calculations of the (51)V hyperfine coupling (HFC) tensor A, have been completed for eighteen V(IV)O(2+) complexes with different donor set, electric charge and coordination geometry. A tensor was calculated with ORCA software with several functionals and basis sets taking into account the spin-orbit coupling contribution. The results were compared with those obtained with Gaussian 03 software using the half-and-half functional BHandHLYP and 6-311g(d,p) basis set. The order of accuracy of the functionals in the prediction of A(iso), A(z) and dipolar term A(z,anis) is BHandHLYP > PBE0 > B3PW > TPSSh > B3LYP > BP86 > VWN5 (for A(iso)), BHandHLYP > PBE0 > B3PW > TPSSh > B3LYP > BP86 > VWN5 (for A(z)), B3LYP > PBE0 ~ B3PW ~ BHandHLYP > TPSSh > BP86 ~ VWN5 (for A(z,anis)). The good agreement in the prediction of A(z) with BHandHLYP is due to a compensation between the overestimation of A(iso) and underestimation of A(z,anis) (A(z) = A(iso) + A(z,anis)), whereas among the hybrid functionals PBE0 performs better than the other ones. BHandHLYP functional and Gaussian software are recommended when the V(IV)O(2+) species contains only V-O and/or V-N bonds, whereas PBE0 functional and ORCA software for V(IV)O(2+) complexes with one or more V-S bonds. Finally, the application of these methods to the coordination environment of V(IV)O(2+) ion in V-proteins, like vanadyl-substituted insulin, carbonic anhydrase, collagen and S-adenosylmethionine synthetase, was discussed.  相似文献

O-Ethyl benzoylthiocarbamate has been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis and FT-IR. The crystal structure was determined by X-ray diffraction analysis. Title compound crystallizes in the orthorhombic space group Pna2(1), with Z=4. Unit cell parameters a=9.941(3)A, b=9.352(3)A, c=10.962(3)A and V=1019.1(5)A(3). The molecular geometry and vibrational frequencies of O-ethyl benzoylthiocarbamate in the ground state has been calculated using the Hartree-Fock and density functional using Becke's three-parameter hybrid method with the Lee, Yang, and Parr correlation functional (B3LYP) methods with 3-21G and 6-31G(d) basis sets. The computational frequencies are in good agreement with the observed results. Comparison of the observed fundamental vibrational frequencies of O-ethyl benzoylthiocarbamate and calculated results by density functional B3LYP and Hartree-Fock methods indicate that B3LYP is superior to the scaled Hartree-Fock approach for molecular vibrational problems.  相似文献

Optimized geometries and vibrational frequencies were calculated for the hexamolybdoaluminate(III), [AlIII(OH)6Mo6O18]3-, Anderson-type heteropolyanion with the HF, B3LYP, B3PW91, B3P86 and B1LYP methods of theory using the LanL2DZ, SDD and combination of LanL2DZ with 6-31G (d, p) basis sets. The agreement between the optimized and experimental geometries was in the decreasing order: HF, B3P86, B3PW91, B1LYP and B3LYP. The calculated frequencies by the B3LYP have the smallest mean root mean square (RMS) error. The effect of the basis set on the calculated bond lengths and frequencies by the density functional calculations (DFT) methods was minor. The agreement between the previously reported IR and Raman spectra and the calculated values is, in general, good.  相似文献

A more rigorous theoretical treatment of methods previously used to correlate computed energy values with experimental redox potentials, combined with the availability of well-developed computational solvation methods, results in a shift away from computing ionization potentials/electron affinities in favor of computing absolute reduction potentials. Seventy-nine literature redox potentials measured under comparable conditions from 51 alternant and nonalternant polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons are linearly correlated with their absolute reduction potentials computed by density functional theory (B3LYP/6-31+G(d)) with SMD/IEF-PCM solvation. The resulting correlation is very strong (R(2) = 0.9981, MAD = 0.056 eV). When extrapolated to the x-intercept, the correlation results in an estimate of 5.17 ± 0.01 eV for the absolute potential of the ferrocene-ferrocenium redox couple in acetonitrile at 25 °C, indicating that this simple method can be used reliably for both calculating absolute redox potentials and for predicting relative redox potentials. When oxidation and reduction data are evaluated separately, the overall MAD value is improved by 50% to 0.028 eV, which improves relative potential predictions, but the computed values do not extrapolate to a reasonable estimate of the absolute potential of the ferrocene-ferrocenium ion reference.  相似文献

2-Chloro-N-(diethylcarbamothioyl)benzamide (C(12)H(15)ClN(2)OS) has been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis and IR spectroscopy. The crystal and molecular structure of the title compound has been determined from single crystal X-ray diffraction data. It crystallizes in the orthorhombic space group Pbca, Z=8 with a=9.581(3)A, b=9.992(3)A, c=26.640(8)A, V=2550.5(13)A(3) and D(calc)=1.410 Mg/m(3). The molecular geometry and vibrational frequencies of 2-chloro-N-(diethylcarbamothioyl)benzamide in the ground state have been calculated using the Hartree-Fock and density functional using Becke's three-parameter hybrid method with the Lee, Yang and Parr correlation functional (B3LYP) methods with 3-21G and 6-31G(d) basis sets. The calculated geometric parameters were compared to the corresponding X-ray structure of the title compound. The raw B3LYP frequencies approximate the experimental data much better than the results of Hartree-Fock. The scaled B3LYP/6-31G(d) results were more reliable than those obtained using the B3LYP/3-21G method with the mean absolute deviation about 13.7 cm(-1). On the basis of the comparison between calculated and experimental results, assignments of fundamental vibrational modes were examined.  相似文献
