3‐Acryloxypropylhepta(3,3,3‐trifluoropropyl) polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) was synthesized and used as a modifier to improve the thermal response rates of poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) hydrogel. The radical copolymerization among N‐isopropylacrylamide (NIPAM), the POSS macromer and N,N′‐methylenebisacrylamide was performed to prepare the POSS‐containing PNIPAM cross‐linked networks. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA) showed that the POSS‐containing PNIPAM networks displayed the enhanced glass transition temperatures (Tg's) and improved thermal stability when compared with plain PNIPAM network. The POSS‐containing PNIPAM hydrogels exhibited temperature‐responsive behavior as the plain PNIPAM hydrogels. It is noted that with the moderate contents of POSS, the POSS‐containing PNIPAM hydrogels displayed much faster response rates in terms of swelling, deswelling, and re‐swelling experiments than plain PNIPAM hydrogel. The improved thermoresponsive properties of hydrogels have been interpreted on the basis of the formation of the specific microphase‐separated morphology in the hydrogels, that is, the POSS structural units in the hybrid hydrogels were self‐assembled into the highly hydrophobic nanodomains, which behave as the microporogens and promote the contact of PNIPAM chains and water. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of polyurethane hybrid networks have been synthesized using octakis(m‐isoprenyl‐α,α′‐dimethylbenzylisocyanato dimethylsiloxy) octasilsesquioxane (Q8M8TMI) as a crosslinking agent. The formation of the urethane linkages within the polyurethane hybrids was confirmed by photoacoustic FTIR spectroscopy. The TGA and DSC studies demonstrated that the incorporation of the POSS crosslinking agents altered the thermal properties of the polyurethanes, and that this was dependent on the length of the polyethylene glycol chain. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Semi‐interpenetrating polymer network (semi‐IPN) coatings were prepared by using castor oil‐based polyurethane (PU) and nitrocellulose (NC) with various viscosity‐average molecular weights (Mη) from 6 × 104 to 42 × 104, and coated on a regenerated cellulose (RC) film to obtain water‐resistant film. The PU/NC coatings and coated films, which were cured at 80°C for 5 min and 2 min, respectively, were investigated by infrared (IR) and ultraviolet (UV) spectroscopy, X‐ray diffraction, swelling test, strength test, dynamic mechanical thermal analysis (DMTA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The results show that the crosslink densities of the PU/NC semi‐IPNs were smaller than that of pure PU, and decreased with the decrease of Mη of nitrocellulose (NC Mη), indicating NC molecules cohered intimately with PU, and hindered the PU network formation. The physical and mechanical properties of the films coated with PU/NC coatings were significantly improved. With the increase of NC Mη, the strength and thermal stability of the coated films increased, but the pliability, water resistivity, and optical transmission decreased slowly. The PU/NC coating with low NC Mη more readily penetrated into the RC film, and reacted with cellulose, resulting in a strong interfacial bonding and dense surface caused by intimate blend of PU/NC in the coated films. © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. In this contribution, we reported an investigation of the morphologies, surface hydrophobicity, and shape memory properties of the organic–inorganic polyurethanes with double decker silsesquioxane (DDSQ) in the main chains. It was found that the organic–inorganic polyurethanes were microphase‐separated and that the POSS cages in the main chains were self‐organized into the spherical microdomains with the size of 10–50 nm in diameter. The introduction of POSS cages into the main chains resulted in the enhancement of glass transition temperatures (Tg's). In the meantime, the surface dewettability of the materials was significantly enhanced. X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and atomic force microscopy (AFM) indicates the improvement of the surface hydrophobicity resulted from the enrichment of POSS at the surfaces of the polyurethanes. The mechanical analyses, such as dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) and creep‐recovery analysis (CRA), indicate that the POSS microdomains dispersed in the polyurethanes behaved as the physical crosslinking sites and promoted the formation of the crosslinked networks. Owing to the introduction of DDSQ into the main chains, the organic–inorganic polyurethanes significantly displayed shape memory properties, in marked contrast to the unmodified and linear polyurethane. The shape memory behavior has been addressed on the formation of the strong physically crosslinked networks in the organic–inorganic polyurethanes. © 2018 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Thermal degradation studies of polyurethane/POSS nanohybrid elastomers   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
Reported here is the synthesis of a series of polyurethane/POSS nanohybrid elastomers, the characterisation of their thermal stability and degradation behaviour at elevated temperatures using a combination of thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA) and thermal volatilisation analysis (TVA). A series of PU elastomer systems have been formulated incorporating varying levels of 1,2-propanediol-heptaisobutyl-POSS (PHIPOSS) as a chain extender unit, replacing butane diol. The bulk thermal stability of the nanohybrid systems has been characterised using TGA. Results indicate that covalent incorporation of POSS into the PU elastomer network increases the non-oxidative thermal stability of the systems. TVA analysis of the thermal degradation of the POSS/PU hybrid elastomers have demonstrated that the hybrid systems are indeed more thermally stable when compared to the unmodified PU matrix; evolving significantly reduced levels of volatile degradation products and exhibiting a ∼30 °C increase in onset degradation temperature. Furthermore, characterisation of the distribution of degradation products from both unmodified and hybrid systems indicate that the inclusion of POSS in the PU network is directly influencing the degradation pathways of both the soft and hard-block components of the elastomers: The POSS/PU hybrid systems show reduced levels of CO, CO2, water and increased levels of THF as products of thermal degradation.  相似文献

Polyhedral oligomeric silsequioxane (POSS), having eight hydroxyl groups for the preparation of nanocomposites with polyimide (PI) was synthesized by the direct hydrosilylation of allyl alcohol with octasilsesquioxane (Q8M8H) with platinum divinyltetramethyl disiloxane Pt(dvs) as a catalyst. The structure of allyl alcohol terminated‐POSS (POSS‐OH) was confirmed by FTIR, NMR, and XRD. A high performance, low‐k PI nanocomposite from pyromellitic dianhydride (PMDA)‐4,4'‐oxydianiline (ODA) polyamic acid cured with POSS‐OH was also successfully synthesized. The incorporation of POSS‐OH into PI matrix reduced dielectric constant of PI without loosing mechanical properties. Furthermore, the effects of POSS‐OH on the morphology and properties of the PI/POSS‐OH nanocomposites were investigated using UV–vis, FTIR, XRD, SEM, AFM, transmission electron microscope (TEM), TGA, and contact angle. The homogeneous dispersion of POSS particles was confirmed by SEM, AFM, and TEM. The nanoindentation showed that the modulus increased upon increasing the concentration of POSS‐OH in PI, whereas the hardness did not increase very much with respect to loading of POSS, due to soft‐interphase around POSS molecules in the resulting nanocomposites. Overall results demonstrated the nanometer‐level integration of the polymer and POSS‐OH. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 46: 5887–5896, 2008  相似文献

The curing reaction and kinetics of o‐cresol formaldehyde epoxy resin (o‐CFER) with polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane of N‐aminoethyl‐γ‐amino propyl group (AEAP‐POSS) were investigated by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The thermal, mechanical, and dielectric properties of o‐CFER/AEAP‐POSS nanocomposites were investigated with thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), torsional braid analysis (TBA), tensile tester, impact tester, and electric analyzer, respectively. The results show that the activation energy (E) of curing reaction is 58.08 kJ/mol, and the curing reaction well followed the ?esták‐Berggren (S‐B) autocatalytic model. The glass transition temperature (Tg) increases with the increase in AEAP‐POSS content, and reaches the maximum, 107°C, when the molar ratio (Ns) of amino group to epoxy group is 0.5. The nanocomposites containing a higher percentage of AEAP‐POSS exhibited a higher thermostability. The AEAP‐POSS can effectively increase the mechanical properties of epoxy resin, and the tensile and impact strengths are 2.84 MPa and 143.25 kJ m?2, respectively, when Ns is 0.5. The dielectric constant (ε), dielectric loss factor (tan δ), volume resistivity (ρv), and surface resistivity (ρs) are 4.98, 3.11 × 10?4, 3.17 × 1012 Ω cm3, and 1.41 × 1012 Ω cm2, respectively, similarly at Ns 0.5. The soluble poly(methyl methacrylate‐co‐octavinyl‐polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane) (PMMA–POSS) hybrid nanocomposites with improved Tg and high thermal stability were synthesized by common free radical polymerization and characterized using FTIR, high‐resolution 1H NMR, 29Si NMR, GPC, DSC, and TGA. The POSS contents in the nanocomposites were determined based on FTIR spectrum, revealing that it can be effectively adjusted by varying the feed ratio of POSS in the hybrid composites. On the basis of the 1H NMR analysis, the number of the reacted vinyl groups on each POSS molecules was determined to be about 6–8. The DSC and TGA measurements indicated that the hybrid nanocomposites had higher Tg and better thermal properties than the pure PMMA homopolymer. The Tg increase mechanism was investigated using FTIR, displaying that the dipole–dipole interaction between PMMA and POSS also plays very important role to the Tg improvement besides the molecular motion hindrance from the hybrid structure. The thermal stability enhances with increase of POSS content, which is mainly attributed to the incorporation of nanoscale inorganic POSS uniformly dispersed at molecular level. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Calcification of implanted biomaterials is highly undesirable and limits clinical applicability. Experiments were carried out to assess the calcification resistance of polyisobutylene (PIB), PIB‐based polyurethane (PIB‐PU), PIB‐PU reinforced with (CH3)3N+CH2CH2CH2NH2 I?‐modified montmorillonite (PIB‐PU/nc), PIB‐based polyurethane urea (PIB‐PUU), PIB‐PU containing S atoms (PIBS‐PU), PIBS‐PU reinforced with (CH3)3N+CH2CH2CH2NH2 I?‐modified montmorillonite (PIBS‐PU/nc), and poly(isobutylene‐b‐styrene‐b‐isobutylene) (SIBS), relative to that of a clinically widely implanted polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS)–based PU, Elast‐Eon (the “control”). Samples were incubated in simulated body fluid for 28 days at 37°C, and the extent of surface calcification was analyzed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), energy‐dispersive X‐ray spectroscopy (EDX), X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and Fourier‐transform‐infrared (FT‐IR) spectroscopy. Whereas the PDMS‐based PU showed extensive calcification, PIB and PIB‐PU containing 72.5% PIB, ie, a polyurethane whose surface is covered with PIB, were free of calcification. PIBS‐PU and PIB‐PUU, ie, polyurethanes that contain S or urea groups, respectively, were slightly calcified. The amine‐modified montmorillonite‐reinforcing agent reduced the extent of calcification. SIBS was found slightly calcified. Evidently, PIB and materials fully coated with PIB are calcification resistant.  相似文献

A top‐down approach is applied for the production of polyurethane (PU)–polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) nanocomposites, namely melt blending. As opposed to the typical chemical incorporation during synthesis, a POSS moiety with two hydroxyl groups is melt blended into a commercial thermoplastic polyurethane with mass fraction up to 2 wt %. POSS disperses in the matrix in submicrometer‐sized crystals, as well as in length scale of few tens of nanometers, in the bulk. Phase separation of the produced composites was studied by both standard dynamic and isothermal annealing experiments. In an approach rare in the literature, the dynamics of phase separation is discussed based on isothermal differential scanning calorimetry curves recorded during annealing. The blended‐in nanoparticles affect the micromorphology in a complicated manner, dependent on the intrinsically complex phase separation mechanism of PU. At higher temperatures, POSS slows down the phase separation, whereas at lower ones, it enhances and accelerates it. POSS decreases the mechanical modulus of the final material, presumably as a result of changes in the microphase separation. © 2019 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part B: Polym. In the present work, lanthanum phenylphosphonate (LaPP)–based multilayered film was fabricated on the surface of flexible polyurethane (PU) foam by layer‐by‐layer self‐assembled method. The successful deposition of the coating was confirmed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy‐dispersive X‐ray (EDX). Subsequently, the thermal decomposition and burning behavior of untreated and treated PU foams were investigated by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and cone calorimeter, respectively. The TGA results indicated that Tmax2 of treated PU foams were increased by approximately 15°C to 20°C as compared with untreated PU foam. The peak heat release rate (PHRR) and total heat release (THR) of PU‐6 (with 19.5 wt% weight gain) were 188 kW/m2 and 20.3 MJ/m2, with reductions of 70% and 15% as compared with those of untreated PU foam, respectively. Meanwhile, the smoke production of treated PU foam was suppressed after the construction of LaPP‐based coating.  相似文献

A series of epoxy resin nanocomposites modified by polyurethane and organically modified montmorillonite was prepared by effectively dispersing the organically modified montmorillonite in interpenetrating polymer networks (IPNs) of epoxy and polyurethane via the sequential polymeric technique and in situ polymerization. The tribological performance of the resultant EP/PU nanocomposites was investigated by a pin‐on‐disc tester, and the results showed that adding polyurethane and organically modified clay to the EP matrix had a synergistic effect on improving tribological performance of EP/PU nanocomposites. The morphologies of the worn surface were studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) observations, and the results indicated that the mechanism of improving tribological performance of EP/PU nanocomposites was different from that of pure EP or pure EP/PU IPNs. The thermal behavior of these nanocomposites was also investigated by thermogravimeric analysis (TGA), and the results indicated that adding organically modified clay to the matrix remedied the deterioration of the thermal degradation temperature of the interpenetrating networks. This work reports the synthesis of rigid polyurethane (PU) foams modified by disilanolisobutyl polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (DSIPOSS). This open‐cage nanostructure silsesquioxane has 2 hydroxyl groups and therefore can be chemically built directly in the PU backbone to form hybrid polyurethane‐POSS foam. Synthesis procedure using polymeric 4,4′‐diphenylmethane diisocyanate, polyetherol, and DSIPOSS has been elaborated, and the influence of POSS on the cell structure, closed cell content, apparent density, thermal conductivity, and compression strength of the rigid polyurethane composites has been evaluated. The hybrid composite foams containing 1.5 and 2.0 wt% DSIPOSS showed a reduced number of cells and an increased average area of foam cells in comparison with the unmodified PU, while the addition of 0.5wt% of DSIPOSS causes an increase in the number of cells of the foam as compared with the reference and thus a reduction in the average area of cells. X‐ray microtomography provided data on the porous structure of polyurethane hybrid materials, including reduction of the pore surface area. Scanning electron microscopy and energy‐dispersive X‐ray spectroscopy analysis revealed a good homogenization of DSIPOSS in polyurethane matrix. Thermogravimetric analysis results have shown that incorporation of POSS nanoparticles into PU foam does not significantly change the degradation process. The compressive strength of PUF‐POSS hybrids in the direction parallel and perpendicular to the direction of foam rise is greater than the strength of the reference foam already for the lowest DSIPOSS content.  相似文献

Octaphenylsilsesquioxane (PH‐POSS) and octa(γ‐methacryloxypropyl)silsesquioxane (MA‐POSS) were successfully synthesized by hydrolytic condensation of phenyltrichlorosilane and γ‐methacryloxypropyltrimethoxysilane, and characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FT‐IR), 1H and 29Si nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), and matrix‐assisted laser desorption/ionization‐time of flight (MALDI‐TOF) mass spectrum. Morphology, degradation behavior, thermal, and mechanical properties of hybrid composites were studied by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), polarized optical microscopy (POM), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), surface contact angle (SCA), tensile, and impact testing. Domains of PH‐POSS and MA‐POSS dispersed in the matrix with a wide size distribution in a range of 0.1–0.5 µm, while PH‐POSS exhibited a preferential dispersion. Because of the possible homopolymerization of MA‐POSS during the melt blending, the glass transition temperature of polycarbonate (PC)/MA‐POSS composites remained nearly unchanged with respect to PC/PH‐POSS composites that showed a depression of Tg due to the plasticization effect. It is interesting to note that the incorporation of POSS retarded the degradation rates of PC composites and thus significantly improved the thermal stabilities. Si? O fractions left during POSS degradations were a key factor governing the formation of a gel network layer on the exterior surface. This layer possessed more compact structures, higher thermal stabilities, and some thermal insulation. In addition, percentage residues at 700°C (C700) significantly increased from 10.8% to 15.8–22.1% in air. Fracture stress of two composites showed a slight improvement, and the impact strength of them decreased monotonically with the increase of POSS loading. In this work the cure behavior and rheological and mechanical interfacial properties of the diglycidylether of bisphenol A (DGEBA)/polyurethane (PU) blend system, initiated by 1 wt % N‐benzylpyrazinium hexafluoroantimonate as a latent thermal catalyst, were investigated. To characterize the mechanical interfacial properties of the system, the critical stress intensity factor (KIC) was calculated with a single‐edge‐notched beam (SEN) beam fracture toughness test. And an impact test was performed at room and cryogenic temperatures to determine the performance of PU at room and low‐temperatures, respectively. As a result, the Ec of the blend system was increased with increasing PU content, showing a maximum value at 30 wt % PU, which was in good agreement with the mechanical properties of the blend system. Consequently, these results could be explained by the improvement that occurred in intermolecular hydrogen bonding between the hydroxyl group in EP and the isocyanate group in PU, resulting in increased compatibility of the components within the interpenetrating polymer networks. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Linear isocyanate‐terminated poly(urethane‐imide) (PUI) with combination of the advantages of polyurethane and polyimide was directly synthesized by the reaction between polyurethane prepolymer and pyromellitic dianhydride (PMDA). Then octaaminophenyl polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (OapPOSS) and PUI were incorporated into the epoxy resin (EP) to prepare a series of EP/PUI/POSS organic–inorganic nanocomposites for the purpose of simultaneously improving the heat resistance and toughness of the epoxy resin. Their thermal degradation behavior, dynamic mechanical properties, and morphology were studied with thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA), dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA), and transmission electron microscope (TEM). The results showed that the thermal stability and mechanical modulus was greatly improved with the addition of PUI and POSS. Moreover, the EP/PUI/POSS nanocomposites had lower glass transition temperatures. The TEM results revealed that POSS molecules could self assemble into strip domain which could switch to uniform dispersion with increasing the content of POSS. All the results could be ascribed to synergistic effect of PUI and POSS on the epoxy resin matrix. Copyright © 2010 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

A series of novel poly(urethane amide) films were prepared by the reaction of a polyurethane (PU) prepolymer and a soluble polyamide (PA) containing aliphatic hydroxyl groups in the backbone. The PU prepolymer was prepared by the reaction of polyester polyol and 2,4‐tolylenediisocyanate and then was end‐capped with phenol. Soluble PA was prepared by the reaction of 1‐(m‐aminophenyl)‐2‐(p‐aminophenyl)ethanol and terephthaloyl chloride. The PU prepolymer and PA were blended, and the clear, transparent solutions were cast on glass substrates; this was followed by thermal treatments at various temperatures to produce reactions between the isocyanate group of the PU prepolymer and the hydroxyl group of PA. The opaque poly(urethane amide) films showed various properties, from those of plastics to those of elastomers, depending on the ratio of the PU and PA components. Dynamic mechanical analysis showed two glass‐transition temperatures (Tg's), a lower Tg due to the PU component and a higher Tg due to the PA component, suggesting that the two polymer components were phase‐separated. The rubbery plateau region of the storage modulus for the elastic films was maintained up to about 250 °C, which is considerably higher than for conventional PUs. Tensile measurements of the elastic films of 90/10 PU/PA showed that the elongation was as high as 347%. This indicated that the alloying of PU with PA containing aliphatic hydroxyl groups in the backbone improved the high‐temperature properties of PU and, therefore, enhanced the use temperature of PU. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The phase behavior of the as‐prepared polyether polyurethane (PU) elastomers was investigated by dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA), polarized optical microscope (POM), and atomic force microscopy (AFM). This PU copolymers were composed of different compositions of two soft segments, poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) and hydrolytically modified hydroxyl‐terminated poly(butadiene‐co‐acrylonitrile) (h‐HTBN) oligomers. The microphase separation behavior is confirmed to occur between soft and hard segments as well as soft and soft segments as the h‐HTBN is incorporated into the PU system, depending on soft‐soft and/or soft‐hard microdomain composition, molecular weight (MW) of PEG, and hydrolysis time of HTBN. The driving force for this phase separation is mainly due to the formation of inter‐ and intramolecular hydrogen bonding interaction. The PU‐70, PU‐50 samples with non‐reciprocal composition seem to exhibit larger microphase separation than any other PU ones. The hydrolysis degradation, thermal stability, and mechanical properties of the copolymers were assessed by gravimetry, scanning electron microscope (SEM), thermal gravity analysis (TGA), and tensile test, respectively. The experimental results indicated that the incorporation of h‐HTBN soft segment into PEG as well as low MW of PEG leads to increased thermal and degradable stability based on the intermolecular hydrogen bond interaction. The PU‐70 and PU‐50 copolymers exhibit better mechanical properties such as high flexibility and high ductility because of their larger microphase separation architecture with the hard domains acting as reinforcing fillers and/or physical crosslinking agents dispersed in the soft segment matrix. Microencapsulated ammonium polyphosphate (APP) with polyurethane (MCAPP) was prepared by in situ polymerization of pentaerythtritol (PER) and toluene‐2,4‐diisocyanate (TDI) in the presence of added APP. MCAPP was then incorporated into polyurethane (PU) to obtain flame retarded PU/MCAPP. Fourier transform infrared (FT‐IR) and X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) showed that APP was encapsulated by a layer of PU. It found that the optimal reaction time was 8 hr and microencapsulation led to an improvement in water leaching from scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and determination of water resistance. Thermal degradation of flame retarded PU was also investigated by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). UL‐94 test and SEM were performed before and after water treatment at 75°C for seven days, and the results showed that PU loading of 30% MCAPP can maintain the V‐0 level, due to the shield effect of microencapsulation. A dithiocarbamate (DC)‐based polyurethane macroiniferter (PUMI) was synthesized and used to prepare physically crosslinked polyurethane‐block‐poly (acrylamide) (PU‐b‐PAAm) and polyurethane‐block‐poly(vinyl pyrrolidone) (PU‐b‐PVP) hydrogels. The success of the reactions has been confirmed by FTIR, 1H‐NMR, and 13C‐NMR Spectroscopy analyses. The number average molecular weight of the block copolymers increased linearly with conversion and copolymerization time and thus followed a “living” radical mechanism. The water transport behavior of these polyurethane‐based hydrogels such as water uptake rate, equilibrium water content (EWC), transport number (n), characteristic diffusion rate constant (K), diffusion coefficient (D), and pH effect on EWC has been investigated. The results revealed that PU‐b‐PAAm hydrogels followed Fickian diffusion suggesting diffusion controlled swelling kinetics, whereas the PU‐b‐PVP hydrogels followed non‐Fickian diffusion indicating that both diffusion and structural relaxation controlled the water transport. The PU‐b‐PAAm hydrogels showed higher swelling at both low and high pH than at a neutral pH. This is attributed to protonation of the tertiary amines of N,N′‐diethyl‐N,N′‐bis(2‐hydroxyethyl) thiuram disulfide (DHTD) at low pH and base hydrolysis of amide segments at high pH. In the thermogravimetric analysis; PUMI, PU‐b‐PVP and PU‐b‐PAAm have degraded in three distinct stages related to CS2 evolution, hard segment degradation, and soft segment degradation. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
