This paper is concerned with superconvergence properties of the direct discontinuous Galerkin (DDG) method for one‐dimensional linear convection‐diffusion equations. We prove, under some suitable choice of numerical fluxes and initial discretization, a 2k‐th and ‐th order superconvergence rate of the DDG approximation at nodes and Lobatto points, respectively, and a ‐th order of the derivative approximation at Gauss points, where k is the polynomial degree. Moreover, we also prove that the DDG solution is superconvergent with an order k + 2 to a particular projection of the exact solution. Numerical experiments are presented to validate the theoretical results. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Numer Methods Partial Differential Eq 33: 290–317, 2017  相似文献

In this article, we conduct an a posteriori error analysis of the two‐dimensional time‐dependent Stokes problem with homogeneous Dirichlet boundary conditions, which can be extended to mixed boundary conditions. We present a full time–space discretization using the discontinuous Galerkin method with polynomials of any degree in time and the ? 2 ? ?1 Taylor–Hood finite elements in space, and propose an a posteriori residual‐type error estimator. The upper bounds involve residuals, which are global in space and local in time, and an L 2‐error term evaluated on the left‐end point of time step. From the error estimate, we compute local error indicators to develop an adaptive space/time mesh refinement strategy. Numerical experiments verify our theoretical results and the proposed adaptive strategy.  相似文献

We prove an optimal‐order error estimate in a degenerate‐diffusion weighted energy norm for bilinear Galerkin finite element methods for two‐dimensional time‐dependent convection‐diffusion equations with degenerate diffusion. In the estimate, the generic constants depend only on certain Sobolev norms of the true solution but not the lower bound of the diffusion. This estimate, combined with a known stability estimate of the true solution of the governing partial differential equations, yields an optimal‐order estimate of the Galerkin finite element method, in which the generic constants depend only on the Sobolev norms of the initial and right side data. Preliminary numerical experiments were conducted to verify these estimates numerically. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Numer Methods Partial Differential Eq, 2011  相似文献

In this article, we consider the finite element method (FEM) for two‐dimensional linear time‐fractional Tricomi‐type equations, which is obtained from the standard two‐dimensional linear Tricomi‐type equation by replacing the first‐order time derivative with a fractional derivative (of order α, with 1 <α< 2 ). The method is based on finite element method for space and finite difference method for time. We prove that the method is unconditionally stable, and the error estimate is presented. The comparison of the FEM results with the exact solutions is made, and numerical experiments reveal that the FEM is very effective. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We deal with the numerical solution of a scalar nonstationary nonlinear convection‐diffusion equation. We employ a combination of the discontinuous Galerkin finite element (DGFE) method for the space as well as time discretization. The linear diffusive and penalty terms are treated implicitly whereas the nonlinear convective term is treated by a special higher order explicit extrapolation from the previous time step, which leads to the necessity to solve only a linear algebraic problem at each time step. We analyse this scheme and derive a priori asymptotic error estimates in the L(L2) –norm and the L2(H1) –seminorm with respect to the mesh size h and time step τ. Finally, we present an efficient solution strategy and numerical examples verifying the theoretical results. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We study the convergence of the Symmetric Weighted Interior Penalty discontinuous Galerkin method for heterogeneous diffusion problems with low‐regularity solutions only belonging to W2, p with p ∈ (1,2]. In 2d, we infer an optimal algebraic convergence rate. In any space dimension d, we achieve the same result for p > 2 d/( d + 2). We also prove convergence without algebraic rates for exact solutions only belonging to the energy space. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Numer Methods Partial Differential Eq, 2012  相似文献

We study the superconvergence of the finite volume element (FVE) method for solving convection‐diffusion equations using bilinear trial functions. We first establish a superclose weak estimate for the bilinear form of FVE method. Based on this estimate, we obtain the H1‐superconvergence result: . Then, we present a gradient recovery formula and prove that the recovery gradient possesses the ‐order superconvergence. Moreover, an asymptotically exact a posteriori error estimate is also given for the gradient error of FVE solution.Copyright © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this paper, a semi‐discrete scheme and a fully discrete scheme of the Stokes‐Biot model are proposed, and we analyze the semi‐discrete scheme in detail. First of all, we prove the existence and uniqueness of the semi‐discrete scheme, and a‐priori error estimates are derived. Then, we present the same conclusions for the fully discrete scheme. Finally, under both matching and non‐matching meshes some numerical tests are given to validate the analysis of convergence, which well support the theoretical results.  相似文献

Finite volume method and characteristics finite element method are two important methods for solving the partial differential equations. These two methods are combined in this paper to establish a fully discrete characteristics finite volume method for fully nonlinear convection‐dominated diffusion problems. Through detailed theoretical analysis, optimal order H1 norm error estimates are obtained for this fully discrete scheme. Copyright © 2010 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

We prove an optimal‐order error estimate in a weighted energy norm for finite volume method for two‐dimensional time‐dependent advection–diffusion equations on a uniform space‐time partition of the domain. The generic constants in the estimates depend only on certain norms of the true solution but not on the scaling parameter. These estimates, combined with a priori stability estimates of the governing partial differential equations with full regularity, yield a uniform estimate of the finite volume method, in which the generic constants depend only on the Sobolev norms of the initial and right side data but not on the scaling parameter. We use the interpolation of spaces and stability estimates to derive a uniform estimate for problems with minimal or intermediate regularity, where the convergence rates are proportional to certain Besov norms of the initial and right‐hand side data. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We consider a time‐dependent and a stationary convection‐diffusion equation. These equations are approximated by a combined finite element – finite volume method: the diffusion term is discretized by Crouzeix‐Raviart piecewise linear finite elements on a triangular grid, and the convection term by upwind barycentric finite volumes. In the nonstationary case, we use an implicit Euler approach for time discretization. This scheme is shown to be L2‐stable uniformly with respect to the diffusion coefficient. In addition, it turns out that stability is unconditional in the time‐dependent case. These results hold if the underlying grid satisfies a condition that is fulfilled, for example, by some structured meshes. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this paper, we study the numerical solution to time‐fractional partial differential equations with variable coefficients that involve temporal Caputo derivative. A spectral method based on Gegenbauer polynomials is taken for approximating the solution of the given time‐fractional partial differential equation in time and a collocation method in space. The suggested method reduces this type of equation to the solution of a linear algebraic system. Finally, some numerical examples are presented to illustrate the efficiency and accuracy of the proposed method. Copyright © 2014 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Based on the overlapping‐domain decomposition and parallel subspace correction method, a new parallel algorithm is established for solving time‐dependent convection–diffusion problem with characteristic finite element scheme. The algorithm is fully parallel. We analyze the convergence of this algorithm, and study the dependence of the convergent rate on the spacial mesh size, time increment, iteration times and sub‐domains overlapping degree. Both theoretical analysis and numerical results suggest that only one or two iterations are needed to reach to optimal accuracy at each time step. Copyright © 2010 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

We prove an optimal‐order error estimate in a weighted energy norm for the Eulerian‐Lagrangian discontinuous Galerkin method for unsteady‐state advection–diffusion equations with general inflow and outflow boundary conditions. It is well‐known that these problems admit dynamic fronts with interior and boundary layers. The estimate holds uniformly with respect to the vanishing diffusion coefficient. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Numer Methods Partial Differential Eq, 2009  相似文献

In this article we analyze a fully discrete approximation to the time dependent viscoelasticity equations with an Oldroyd B constitutive equation in ? , = 2, 3. We use a Crank‐Nicolson discretization for the time derivatives. At each time level a linear system of equations is solved. To resolve the nonlinearities we use a three‐step extrapolation for the prediction of the velocity and stress at the new time level. The approximation is stabilized by using a discontinuous Galerkin approximation for the constitutive equation. For the mesh parameter, h, and the temporal step size, Δt, sufficiently small and satisfying ΔtCh , existence of the approximate solution is proven. A priori error estimates for the approximation in terms of Δt and h are also derived. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Numer Methods Partial Differential Eq 20: 248–283, 2004  相似文献

This paper is concerned with the effect of numerical integration applied to the discontinuous Galerkin finite element discretization of nonlinear convection‐diffusion problems in 2D. In the space semidiscretization the volume and line integrals are evaluated by numerical quadratures. Our goal is to estimate the error caused by the numerical integration and to show what numerical quadratures guarantee that the accuracy of the method with exact integration is preserved. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We develop an Eulerian‐Lagrangian discontinuous Galerkin method for time‐dependent advection‐diffusion equations. The derived scheme has combined advantages of Eulerian‐Lagrangian methods and discontinuous Galerkin methods. The scheme does not contain any undetermined problem‐dependent parameter. An optimal‐order error estimate and superconvergence estimate is derived. Numerical experiments are presented, which verify the theoretical estimates.© 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We prove stability estimates and derive optimal convergence rates for the streamline diffusion and discontinuous Galerkin finite element methods for discretization of the multi‐dimensional Vlasov‐Fokker‐Planck system. The focus is on the theoretical aspects, where we deal with construction and convergence analysis of the discretization schemes. Some related special cases are implemented in M. The fully Sinc‐Galerkin method is developed for a family of complex‐valued partial differential equations with time‐dependent boundary conditions. The Sinc‐Galerkin discrete system is formulated and represented by a Kronecker product form of those equations. The numerical solution is efficiently calculated and the method exhibits an exponential convergence rate. Several examples, some with a real‐valued solution and some with a complex‐valued solution, are used to demonstrate the performance of this method. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
