The effect of an external magnetic field with a strength up to 140 kOe on the phase transitions in manganese arsenide single crystals has been investigated. The existence of unstable magnetic and crystal structures at temperatures above the Curie temperature T C = 308 K has been established. The displacements of manganese and arsenic atoms during the magnetostructural phase transition and the shift in the temperature of the first-order magnetostructural phase transition in a magnetic field have been determined. It has been shown that the magnetocaloric effect in a magnetic field of 140 kOe near the Curie temperature T C is equal to ??T ?? 13 K. A model of the superparamagnetic state in MnAs above the temperature T C has been proposed using the data on the magnetic properties and structural transformation in the region of the first-order magnetostructural phase transition. It has been demonstrated that, at temperatures close to T C, apart from the contribution to the change in the entropy from the change in the magnetization there is a significant contribution from the transformation of the crystal lattice due to the magnetostructural phase transition.  相似文献

We report temperature and field dependent lattice structure, magnetic properties and magnetocaloric effect in epitaxial Fe50Rh50 thin films with (001) texture. Temperature-dependent XRD measurements reveal an irreversible first-order phase transition with 0.66% lattice change upon heating/cooling. First-principle calculation shows a state change of Rh from non-magnetic (0 μB) for antiferromagnetic phase to magnetic (0.93 μB) state for ferromagnetic phase. A jump of magnetization at temperature of 305 K and field more than 5 T indicates a field-assisted magnetic state change of Ru that contributes to the jump. Giant positive magnetic entropy change was confirmed by isothermal magnetization measurements and an in-situ temperature rise of 15 K. The magnetic state change of Rh between antiferromagnetic and ferromagnetic states is the main origin of giant magnetic entropy change and large thermal hysteresis observed.  相似文献

A phenomenological scheme of the observed properties of superfluid 3He in aerogel is proposed in the spirit of the Ginzburg-Landau theory. The effect of the aerogel on the order parameter is described by the random tensor field ηjl(r). The tensor field exerts a considerable disorienting effect on the order parameter in the A phase of 3He, but virtually unaffects the orientation of the order parameter in the B phase in zero magnetic field. The change in the texture of the order parameter emerging in the B phase in aerogel in a magnetic field is considered. It is shown that the mean square of the angle between the magnetic field direction and the anisotropy axis of the B phase is proportional to the third power of the magnetic field strength. The fluctuations of the direction of the magnetic anisotropy axis of 3He-B are correlated over the familiar “healing length”, which is inversely proportional to the field strength and has a macroscopic scale.  相似文献

The first-order phase transition in Gd5Si2Ge2 is sensitive to both magnetic field and pressure. It may indicate that the influences of the magnetic field and the pressure on the phase transition are virtually equivalent. Moreover, theoretical analyses reveal that the total entropy change is almost definite at a certain Curie temperature no matter whether the applied external field is a magnetic field or a pressure. The entropy change curve can be broadened dramatically under pressure, and the refrigerant capacity is improved from 284.7 J/kg to 447.0 J/kg.  相似文献

The effect of magnetic inhomogeneity on magnetic, magnetocaloric, and transport properties of the colossal magnetoresistance manganites with first order ferromagnetic-to-paramagnetic phase transition is studied. The experiments were performed on the single-crystalline samples of La0.6Pr0.1Ca0.3MnO3. The inhomogeneity is described by the Curie temperature distribution function, which is found from the magnetization data. The temperature dependence of the magnetic field induced change in the entropy is shown to be determined by the distribution function and the shift of the transition temperature in a magnetic field. Similarly, magnetoresistance in the transition region is determined by the resistivity at H=0 and the shift of the transition temperature. The maximum entropy change as well as maximum magnetoresistance can be achieved in the magnetic field of order δTC/BM where δTC is the transition width and BM is the rate of change of the Curie temperature with magnetic field. Our approach to analysis of the effects of inhomogeneity is general and therefore can be used for all compounds with the first order magnetic phase transition.  相似文献

The equations of state for the magnetic and elastic subsystems of a ferrimagnet are obtained in terms of the exchange–striction model. In the formulas derived for magnetic entropy, it is represented as the sum of the contributions of two magnetic sublattices of the ferrimagnet. One of the main characteristics of the magnetocaloric effect, viz., isothermal variation ΔS iso of the entropy in a magnetic field, is calculated for compounds RCo2 (R = Er, Ho, Dy) that experience a first-order magnetic phase transition and TbCo2 that experiences a second-order magnetic phase transition. It is shown that the calculated values of ΔS iso for these compounds are in satisfactory quantitative agreement with experimental results. The change in the entropy of a ferrimagnet in a strong magnetic field upon a transition from the ferrimagnetic to ferromagnetic ordering is calculated. The peculiarities in the magnetic field dependences of the magnetic entropy of a two-sublattice ferrimagnet are analyzed.  相似文献

We investigated magnetocaloric effect in La0.45Pr0.25Ca0.3MnO3 by direct methods (changes in temperature and latent heat) and indirect method (magnetization isotherms). This compound undergoes a first-order paramagnetic to ferromagnetic transition with TC=200 K upon cooling. The paramagnetic phase becomes unstable and it transforms into a ferromagnetic phase under the application of magnetic field, which results in a field-induced metamagnetic transition (FIMMT). The FIMMT is accompanied by release of latent heat and temperature of the sample as evidenced from differential scanning calorimetry and thermal analysis experiments. A large magnetic entropy change of ΔSm=−7.2 J kg−1 K−1 at T=212.5 K and refrigeration capacity of 228 J kg−1 are found for a field change of ΔH=5 T. It is suggested that destruction of magnetic polarons and growth of ferromagnetic phase accompanied by a lattice volume change with increasing magnetic field is responsible for the large magnetocaloric effect in this compound.  相似文献

Magnetic properties and magnetocaloric effect of compound PrFe 12 B 6 are investigated. The coexistence of hard phase PrFe 12 B 6 and soft phase α-Fe causes interesting phenomena on the curves for the temperature dependence of magnetization.PrFe 12 B 6 experiences a first order phase transition at the Curie temperature 200 K,accompanied by an obvious lattice contraction, which in turn results in a large magnetic entropy change. The Maxwell relation fails to give the correct information about magnetic entropy change due to the first order phase transition nature. The large magnetic entropy changes of PrFe 12.3 B 4.7 obtained from heat capacity method are 11.7 and 16.2 J/kg.K for magnetic field changes of 0-2 T and 0-5 T respectively.  相似文献

Taking into account the inexhaustible interest in studying the peculiarities of physical properties in the neighborhood of phase transitions and the growth of experimental investigations of cobalt fluoride, we have studied the peculiarities of magnetic susceptibility in the vicinity of the critical field HC at which cobalt fluoride performs the second-order phase transition from the antiferromagnetic phase to the angular phase. It is discovered that in the magnetic field HC4, the magnetic susceptibility becomes infinite at HHC. It is shown that as the magnetic field direction deviates from the C4 axis, the magnetic susceptibility in the critical field HC proves to be finite. It is also shown that the change in the magnetic susceptibility with the change in the magnetic field considerably decreases at extremely insignificant deviations of the field H from the C4 axis. Since the calculations are performed in terms of the Landau theory of phase transitions, we pay attention to the similarity and difference between the obtained results and those in the vicinity of the Curie point obtained by using the Landau theory of phase transitions.  相似文献

The magnetocaloric properties of the Gd 5 Ge 2.025 Si 1.925 In 0.05 compound have been studied by x-ray diffraction, magnetic and heat capacity measurements.Powder x-ray diffraction measurement shows that the compound has a dominant phase of monoclinic Gd5Ge2Si2-type structure and a small quantity of Gd 5(Ge,Si) 3-type phase at room temperature. At about 270 K,this compound shows a first order phase transition. The isothermal magnetic entropy change(△SM) is calculated from the temperature and magnetic field dependences of the magnetization and the temperature dependence of MCE in terms of adiabatic temperature change(△Tad) is calculated from the isothermal magnetic entropy change and the temperature variation in zero-field heat-capacity data. The maximum S M is 13.6 J·kg-1·K-1 and maximum △Tad is 13 K for the magnetic field change of 0-5 T.The Debye temperature(θD) of this compound is 149 K and the value of DOS at the Fermi level is 1.6 states/eV·atom from the low temperature zero-field heat-capacity data.A considerable isothermal magnetic entropy change and adiabatic temperature change under a field change of 0-5 T jointly make the Gd5Ge2.025Si1.925 In 0.05 compound an attractive candidate for a magnetic refrigerant.  相似文献

The magnetic properties and magnetocaloric effect in YMnO3 have been investigated using Monte Carlo simulations. The thermal magnetization, specific heat and magnetic entropy have been obtained for different values of exchange interactions and for a several external magnetic field values. The variation of adiabatic temperature change with the temperatures has been obtained for several values of external magnetic field. It has been found that the sample exhibited a paramagnetic to ferromagnetic phase transition at 30 K. The transition temperature of YMnO3 has been deduced for different values of size (1/L) and different values of exchange interactions. The relative cooling power with several values of external magnetic field has been established.  相似文献

Using the magneto-optical Kerr effect, magnetic hysteresis loops are measured on annealed amorphous Co66Fe4B15Si15 samples, to characterize the magnetostatic properties of the heterogeneous crystalline/amorphous phases. A gradual change, on microscale inhomogeneous, change of the magnetic properties with respect to thickness is revealed on HCP-Co, FCC-Co crystalline phases near the surface. The inner amorphous phase exhibits an irregular variation of the local magnetic properties, presumably due to the occurrence and distribution of microcrystallites. The effective field, exerted by the crystalline layer on the amorphous phase, is opposite to the surface magnetization, indicating that there is an antiferromagnetic coupling between surface and inner amorphous phases.  相似文献

The magnetocaloric effect in polycrystalline of Pr1-xSrxMnO3 (x=0.33, 0.43, 0.50) has been investigated. A large magnetic entropy change (7.1J/kgK) was discovered in Pr0.5Sr0.5MnO3 under a low magnetic field of 1T at charge-ordered state transition temperature (161K). The physical mechanism is related to a drastic magnetization change at a temperature where the field-induced magnetic, electron and structural phase transitions occur (from the antiferromagnetic charge-ordered state to the ferromagnetic charge-disordered state).  相似文献

The magnetic properties and the magnetic entropy change AS have been investigated for Gd6Co1.67Si3 compounds with a second-order phase transition. The saturation moment at 5 K and the Curie temperature TC are 38.1μB and 298 K, respectively. The AS originates from a reversible second-order magnetic transition around TC and its value reaches 5.2 J/kg.K for a magnetic field change from 0 to 5T. The refrigerant capacity (RC) of Gd6Co1.67Si3 are calculated by using the methods given in Refs.[12] and [21], respectively, for a field change of 0 5T and its values are 310 and 440 J/kg, which is larger than those of some magnetocaloric materials with a first-order phase transition.  相似文献

The thermodynamics of the phase transition in a perovskite-like multiferroic, in which an antiferromagnetic ferroelectric transforms into a new magnetic state where a spiral spin structure and weak ferromagnetism can coexist in applied magnetic field H, is described. This state forms as a result of a first-order phase transition at a certain temperature (below Néel temperature T N ), where a helicoidal magnetic structure appears due to the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya effect. In this case, the axes of electric polarization and the helicoid of magnetic moments are mutually perpendicular and lie in the ab plane, which is normal to principal axis c. Additional electric polarization p, which decreases the total polarization of the ferroelectric P, appears in the ab plane. The effect of applied magnetic and electric fields on the properties of a multiferroic with a helicoidal magnetic structure is described. An alternating electric field is shown to cause a field-linear change in magnetic moment m, whose sign is opposite to the sign of the change of electric field E. The detected hysteretic phenomena that determine the temperature ranges of overheating and supercooling of each phase are explained. A comparison with the experimental data is performed.  相似文献

The magnetooptical method was used to investigate the penetration of a magnetic flux into a single crystal of a high-temperature superconductor (Bi0.84Pb0.16)2.2Sr2CaCu2O8 in crossed magnetic fields. It is shown that at low temperatures the penetration of the magnetic flux is anisotropic: the flux moves preferentially along the magnetic field applied in the plane of the sample, and the anisotropy grows as the temperature increases. At a temperature Tm = 54±2 K, there occurs a sharp change in the character of penetration of the magnetic field into the superconductor; the direction of the flux ceases be dependent on the direction and magnitude of the magnetic field applied in the plane of the sample. In this case, the transition temperature Tm is independent of the applied magnetic field. The effect is interpreted in terms of the concepts of a phase transition in the system of vortices, which is related to a sharp decrease in the correlations in the position of vortices in various CuO planes, i.e., with the transition from three-dimensional to two-dimensional behavior of the vortex structure.  相似文献

The magnetostriction of KDy(WO4)2 single crystals is measured in an external magnetic field at temperatures below the temperature of a structural phase transition of the Jahn-Teller type. A steplike irreversible variation in the elastic strain is observed to occur with an increase in the magnetic field applied along the a or b axis of the monoclinic cell of the crystal. The residual change in the strain is retained after changing the sign of the magnetic field. The return to the initial state characterized by field-induced jumps in the strain is possible only after thermal cycling well above the structural phase transition temperature. The theory of this phenomenon is developed using a phenomenologically derived thermodynamic potential of the elastic sub-system that takes into account the crystal symmetry and the field renormalization of the elastic moduli. The jumplike transitions are interpreted as being due to the magnetic softening of the elastic moduli in the vicinity of the structural phase transition temperature.  相似文献

Magnetic phase transitions in rare earth intermetallic compound Nd7Rh3 have been investigated using a single crystal. Measurement results of magnetization, magnetic susceptibility, specific heat, and electrical resistivity reveal that Nd7Rh3 has two magnetic phase transitions at TN=34 K, Tt2=9.1 K and a change of the magnetic feature at Tt1=6.8 K in the absence of an external magnetic field. Antiferromagnetic orderings exist in all the three magnetic states; a large magnetic anisotropy between the c-axis and the c-plane is observed. In the magnetic phase below Tt2, an irreversible field-induced magnetic phase transition takes place in the c-plane; after removing external magnetic field, a coexistence state of ferro- and antiferromagnetic ordering or a ferrimagnetic state having a remanent magnetization MR is stabilized. The MR decays to a certain value for several hours after the first process; a magnetic field cooling effect was also observed in the c-plane below Tt2. In the antiferromagentic state above Tt2, the irreversibility disappears and an ordinary antiferromagnetic state takes place. As the origin of this phenomenon, a kind of martensitic structural transition that is observed in Gd5Ge4 can be considered.  相似文献

Features of the phase transition from the disordered state to the ordered orbital state in a La0.875Sr0.125MnO3 single crystal, caused by the cooperative Jahn-Teller effect, have been investigated. A significant change in the acoustic wave parameters in the entire range of cooperative distortion of the structure is revealed. Application of an external magnetic field shifts the structural phase transition to low temperatures.  相似文献
