Given a set D of a cyclic group C, we study the chromatic number of the circulant graph G(C,D) whose vertex set is C, and there is an edge ij whenever i−j∈D∪−D. For a fixed set D={a,b,c:a<b<c} of positive integers, we compute the chromatic number of circulant graphs G(ZN,D) for all N≥4bc. We also show that, if there is a total order of D such that the greatest common divisors of the initial segments form a decreasing sequence, then the chromatic number of G(Z,D) is at most 4. In particular, the chromatic number of a circulant graph on ZN with respect to a minimum generating set D is at most 4. The results are based on the study of the so-called regular chromatic number, an easier parameter to compute. The paper also surveys known results on the chromatic number of circulant graphs. 相似文献

We consider finite, undirected, and simple graphs G of order n(G) and minimum degree δ(G). The connectivity κ(G) for a connected graph G is defined as the minimum cardinality over all vertex‐cuts. If κ(G) < δ(G), then Topp and Volkmann 7 showed in 1993 for p‐partite graphs G that As a simple consequence, Topp and Volkmann obtained for p‐partite graphs G the identity κ(G) = δ(G), if In this article, we will show that these results remain true for graphs G with ω(G) ≤ p, where ω(G) denotes the clique number of G. Since each p‐partite graph G satisfies ω(G) ≤ p, this generalizes the results of Topp and Volkmann. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Graph Theory 52: 7–14, 2006 相似文献

Chvátal established that r(Tm, Kn) = (m – 1)(n – 1) + 1, where Tm is an arbitrary tree of order m and Kn is the complete graph of order n. This result was extended by Chartrand, Gould, and Polimeni who showed Kn could be replaced by a graph with clique number n and order n + 1 provided n ≧ 3 and m ≧ 3. We further extend these results to show that Kn can be replaced by any graph on n + 2 vertices with clique number n, provided n ≧ 5 and m ≧ 4. We then show that further extensions, in particular to graphs on n + 3 vertices with clique number n are impossible. We also investigate the Ramsey number of trees versus complete graphs minus sets of independent edges. We show that r(Tm, Kn –tK2) = (m – 1)(n – t – 1) + 1 for m ≧ 3, n ≧ 6, where Tm is any tree of order m except the star, and for each t, O ≦ t ≦ [(n – 2)/2]. 相似文献

For a vertex v of a graph G, we denote by d(v) the degree of v. The local connectivity κ(u, v) of two vertices u and v in a graph G is the maximum number of internally disjoint u –v paths in G, and the connectivity of G is defined as κ(G)=min{κ(u, v)|u, v∈V(G)}. Clearly, κ(u, v)?min{d(u), d(v)} for all pairs u and v of vertices in G. Let δ(G) be the minimum degree of G. We call a graph G maximally connected when κ(G)=δ(G) and maximally local connected when for all pairs u and v of distinct vertices in G. In 2006, Hellwig and Volkmann (J Graph Theory 52 (2006), 7–14) proved that a connected graph G with given clique number ω(G)?p of order n(G) is maximally connected when As an extension of this result, we will show in this work that these conditions even guarantee that G is maximally local connected. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Searching a network for intruders is an interesting and often difficult problem. Sweeping (or edge searching) is one such search model, in which intruders may exist anywhere along an edge. It was conjectured that graphs exist for which the connected sweep number is strictly less than the monotonic connected sweep number. We prove that this is true, and the difference can be arbitrarily large. We also show that the clique number is a lower bound on the sweep number. 相似文献

We consider the structure of Kr‐free graphs with large minimum degree, and show that such graphs with minimum degree δ>(2r ? 5)n/(2r ? 3) are homomorphic to the join Kr ? 3∨H, where H is a triangle‐free graph. In particular this allows us to generalize results from triangle‐free graphs and show that Kr‐free graphs with such a minimum degree have chromatic number at most r +1. We also consider the minimum‐degree thresholds for related properties. Copyright © 2010 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. 66:319‐331, 2011 相似文献

The existence of perfect state transfer in quantum spin networks based on integral circulant graphs has been considered recently by Saxena, Severini and Shparlinski. We give the simple condition for characterizing integral circulant graphs allowing the perfect state transfer in terms of its eigenvalues. Using that, we complete the proof of results stated by Saxena, Severini and Shparlinski. Moreover, it is shown that in the class of unitary Cayley graphs there are only two of them allowing perfect state transfer. 相似文献

Circulant graphs are an important class of interconnection networks in parallel and distributed computing. Integral circulant graphs play an important role in modeling quantum spin networks supporting the perfect state transfer as well. The integral circulant graph ICGn(D) has the vertex set Zn = {0, 1, 2, … , n − 1} and vertices a and b are adjacent if gcd(a − b, n) ∈ D, where D ⊆ {d : d∣n, 1 ? d < n}. These graphs are highly symmetric, have integral spectra and some remarkable properties connecting chemical graph theory and number theory. The energy of a graph was first defined by Gutman, as the sum of the absolute values of the eigenvalues of the adjacency matrix. Recently, there was a vast research for the pairs and families of non-cospectral graphs having equal energies. Following Bapat and Pati [R.B. Bapat, S. Pati, Energy of a graph is never an odd integer, Bull. Kerala Math. Assoc. 1 (2004) 129-132], we characterize the energy of integral circulant graph modulo 4. Furthermore, we establish some general closed form expressions for the energy of integral circulant graphs and generalize some results from Ili? [A. Ili?, The energy of unitary Cayley graphs, Linear Algebra Appl. 431 (2009), 1881-1889]. We close the paper by proposing some open problems and characterizing extremal graphs with minimal energy among integral circulant graphs with n vertices, provided n is even. 相似文献

A graphG isconvergent when there is some finite integern 0, such that then-th iterated clique graphK
n(G) has only one vertex. The smallest suchn is theindex ofG. TheHelly defect of a convergent graph is the smallestn such thatK
n(G) is clique Helly, that is, its maximal cliques satisfy the Helly property. Bandelt and Prisner proved that the Helly defect of a chordal graph is at most one and asked whether there is a graph whose Helly defect exceeds the difference of its index and diameter by more than one. In the present paper an affirmative answer to the question is given. For any arbitrary finite integern, a graph is exhibited, the Helly defect of which exceeds byn the difference of its index and diameter. 相似文献

The distance energy of a graph G is a recently developed energy-type invariant, defined as the sum of absolute values of the eigenvalues of the distance matrix of G. There was a vast research for the pairs and families of non-cospectral graphs having equal distance energy, and most of these constructions were based on the join of graphs. A graph is called circulant if it is Cayley graph on the circulant group, i.e. its adjacency matrix is circulant. A graph is called integral if all eigenvalues of its adjacency matrix are integers. Integral circulant graphs play an important role in modeling quantum spin networks supporting the perfect state transfer. In this paper, we characterize the distance spectra of integral circulant graphs and prove that these graphs have integral eigenvalues of distance matrix D. Furthermore, we calculate the distance spectra and distance energy of unitary Cayley graphs. In conclusion, we present two families of pairs (G1,G2) of integral circulant graphs with equal distance energy - in the first family G1 is subgraph of G2, while in the second family the diameter of both graphs is three. 相似文献

We give an explicit construction of circulant graphs of very high energy. This construction is based on Gauss sums. We also show the Littlewood conjecture can be used to establish new result for a certain class of circulant graphs. 相似文献

Let T(G) be the number of spanning trees in graph G. In this note, we explore the asymptotics of T(G) when G is a circulant graph with given jumps. The circulant graph is the 2k-regular graph with n vertices labeled 0,1,2,…,n−1, where node i has the 2k neighbors i±s1,i±s2,…,i±sk where all the operations are . We give a closed formula for the asymptotic limit as a function of s1,s2,…,sk. We then extend this by permitting some of the jumps to be linear functions of n, i.e., letting si, di and ei be arbitrary integers, and examining
