Two largely different theories, i.e. the geometric nonlinear eigenvalue theory and the geometric nonlinear critical point theory, of the stability analysis for truss structures are reviewed by the authors. In this paper, it is pointed out through numerical examples as well as thoroughly theoretical investigations that the eigenvalue theory leads to mistakenly very large solutions of critical load. Though it is correct in theory, the applicability of the critical point theory was inadequately extended to all shallow trusses. To overcome the shortcomings of the stability theories, the authors present two theories of their own with two new approaches for geometric nonlinear analysis and for finding the critical loads for shallow truss structures. Several conclusions are drawn, including: (1) the geometric nonlinear eigenvalue theory is mistaken and (2) the capabilities of various theories are discussed.  相似文献

This paper presents a weakly nonlinear analysis for one scenario for the development of transversal instabilities in detonation waves in two space dimensions. The theory proposed and developed here is most appropriate for understanding the behavior of regular and chaotically irregular pulsation instabilities that occur in detonation fronts in condensed phases and occasionally in gases. The theory involves low-frequency instabilities and through suitable asymptotics yields a complex Ginzburg-Landau equation that describes simultaneously the evolution of the detonation front and the nonlinear interactions behind this front. The asymptotic theory mimics the familiar theory of nonlinear hydrodynamic instability in outline; however, there are several novel technical aspects in the derivation because the phenomena studied here involve a complex free boundary problem for a system of nonlinear hyperbolic equations with source terms.  相似文献

In this paper, a nonlinear theory for a straight rod is presented from the general theory of the three-dimensional deformable-body in the Cartesian coordinate frame. A set of nonlinear strains is presented, and the stretch on central curve exactly satisfies the deformation geometrical relations. The relations between the Euler angles and deformation are given from the curvatures and torsion curvatures of the central curves, which can easily explain the existing theories of rods and beams. Full nonlinear equations of motion for a nonlinear rod are developed via the vector form. Such a treatise is different from the traditional treatises of nonlinear rods, based on the Cosserat’s theory (e.g., Cosserat and Cosserat [1] in 1896) or the Kirchhoff assumptions (e.g., Kirchhoff [18] in 1859; Love [3] in 1944). This paper extends the ideas of Galerkin [4] in 1915. The nonlinear theory of thin rods can reduce to the existing theories for thin rods and beams, such ideas presented in this paper can be applied for development of the nonlinear theory for plates and shells as well.  相似文献

The arguments leading to a nonlinear generalization of the Schrödinger equation in the context of the maximum uncertainty principle are reviewed. The exact and perturbative properties of that equation depend on a free regulating/interpolating parameter η, which can be fixed using energetics as is shown here. A linear theory with an external potential that reproduces some unusual exact solutions of the nonlinear equation is also discussed, together with possible symmetry enhancements in the nonlinear theory.  相似文献

At present there are many papers, based on multiscale expansion and homogenization theory, to deal with nonlinear problems with microstructure. But there is no systematic method to deal with all of the possible nonlinear partial differential equations since different nonlinear problems gives rise to different multiscale expansions parameters classes. This introduces changes in the consequent process of homogenization. In this paper, a method based on the theory of upper and lower solution is provided. It deals with nonlinear problems by reducing them to a series of linear problems. In addition numerical computations are also presented in the last part of the paper to support our theoretical analysis.  相似文献

A theory of nonlinear elasticity of anisotropic bodies of the flow theory type is used to investigate nonlinear strains in orthotropic glass-reinforced plastics. Its applicability is experimentally confirmed (for two types of GRP) and the strain-hardening function employed in the theory is plotted. This paper deals with the existence and multiplicity of nontrivial solutions of nonlocal boundary value problems for nonlinear higher-order singular fractional differential equations with sign-changing nonlinear term. The nonlinear governing equation of microbeam based on the strain gradient theory is derived by using a combination of the strain gradient theory and the Hamilton’s principle, and the nonlinear static bending deformation, the post-bucking problem and the nonlinear free vibration are analyzed. The nonlinear term in the nonlinear governing equation is associated with the mean axial extension of the microbeam. The static bending deformation of the clamped–clamped microbeam subjected to transverse force, the critical buckling loads and the nonlinear frequencies of the simple supported microbeam with initial lateral displacement are discussed. It is shown that the size effect is significant when the ratio of characteristic thickness to internal material length scale parameters is approximately equal to one or two, but is diminishing with the increase of the ratio. The results also indicate that the nonlinearity has a great effect on the static and dynamic behavior of microbeam. To attain accurate and reliable characterization of the static and dynamic properties of microbeam, therefore, both the micro structure dependent parameters and the nonlinear term have to be incorporated in the design of micro structures in MEMS or NEMS.  相似文献

The problem of estimating trajectory tubes of a nonlinear control dynamical system with uncertainty in initial data is considered. It is assumed that the dynamical system has a special structure, in which nonlinear terms are quadratic in phase coordinates and the values of the uncertain initial states and admissible controls are subject to ellipsoidal constraints. Differential equations are found that describe the dynamics of the ellipsoidal estimates of reachable sets of the nonlinear dynamical system under consideration. To estimate reachable sets of the nonlinear differential inclusion corresponding to the control system, we use results from the theory of ellipsoidal estimation and the theory of evolution equations for set-valued states of dynamical systems under uncertainty.  相似文献

This work is a geometric study of reduced order observer design for nonlinear systems. Our reduced order observer design is applicable for Lyapunov stable nonlinear systems with a linear output equation and is a generalization of Luenberger’s reduced order observer design for linear systems. We establish the error convergence for the reduced order estimator for nonlinear systems using the center manifold theory for flows. We illustrate our reduced order observer construction for nonlinear systems with a physical example, namely a nonlinear pendulum without friction.  相似文献

The nonlinear eigenvalue problem in buckling analysis is studied for von Kármán plates. By using the general duality theory developed by Gao-Strang [1, 2] it is proved that the stability criterion for the bifurcated state depends on a reduced complementary gap function. The duality theory is established for nonlinear bifurcation problems. This theory shows that the nonlinear eigenvalue problem is eventually equivalent to a coupled quadratic dual optimization problem. A series of equivalent variational principles are constructed and a lower bound theorem for the first eigenvalue of the buckling factor is proved.  相似文献

The nonlinear free vibration of double-walled carbon nanotubes based on the nonlocal elasticity theory is studied in this paper. The nonlinear equations of motion of the double-walled carbon nanotubes are derived by using Euler beam theory and Hamilton principle, with considering the von Kármán type geometric nonlinearity and the nonlinear van der Waals forces. The surrounding elastic medium is formulated as the Winkler model. The harmonic balance method and Davidon–Fletcher–Powell method are utilized for the analysis and simulation of the nonlinear vibration. The simulation results show that the nonlocal parameter, aspect ratio and surrounding elastic medium play more important roles in the nonlinear noncoaxial vibration than those in the coaxial vibration of the double-walled carbon nanotubes. The noncoaxial vibration amplitudes of only considering nonlinear van der Waals forces are larger than those of considering both geometric nonlinearity and nonlinear van der Waals forces.  相似文献

Problems for two classes of nonlinear hereditary media are reduced by integral transforms to problems of the nonlinear theory of elasticity.
