We consider one-dimensional difference Schr?dinger equations with real analytic function V(x). Suppose V(x) is a small perturbation of a trigonometric polynomial V 0(x) of degree k 0, and assume positive Lyapunov exponents and Diophantine ω. We prove that the integrated density of states is H?lder continuous for any k > 0. Moreover, we show that is absolutely continuous for a.e. ω. Our approach is via finite volume bounds. I.e., we study the eigenvalues of the problem on a finite interval [1, N] with Dirichlet boundary conditions. Then the averaged number of these Dirichlet eigenvalues which fall into an interval , does not exceed , k > 0. Moreover, for , this averaged number does not exceed exp , for any . For the integrated density of states of the problem this implies that for any . To investigate the distribution of the Dirichlet eigenvalues of on a finite interval [1, N] we study the distribution of the zeros of the characteristic determinants with complexified phase x, and frozen ω, E. We prove equidistribution of these zeros in some annulus and show also that no more than 2k 0 of them fall into any disk of radius exp. In addition, we obtain the lower bound (with δ > 0 arbitrary) for the separation of the eigenvalues of the Dirichlet eigenvalues over the interval [0, N]. This necessarily requires the removal of a small set of energies. Received: February 2006, Accepted: December 2007  相似文献

A Banach space operator TB(χ) is polaroid if points λ ∈ iso σ(T) are poles of the resolvent of T. Let denote, respectively, the approximate point, the Weyl, the Weyl essential approximate, the upper semi–Fredholm and lower semi–Fredholm spectrum of T. For A, B and CB(χ), let M C denote the operator matrix . If A is polaroid on , M 0 satisfies Weyl’s theorem, and A and B satisfy either of the hypotheses (i) A has SVEP at points and B has SVEP at points , or, (ii) both A and A* have SVEP at points , or, (iii) A* has SVEP at points and B * has SVEP at points , then . Here the hypothesis that λ ∈ π0(M C ) are poles of the resolvent of A can not be replaced by the hypothesis are poles of the resolvent of A. For an operator , let . We prove that if A* and B* have SVEP, A is polaroid on π a 0(M C) and B is polaroid on π a 0(B), then .   相似文献

Let be a nonstandard model of Peano Arithmetic with domain M and let be nonstandard. We study the symmetric and alternating groups S n and A n of permutations of the set internal to , and classify all their normal subgroups, identifying many externally defined such normal subgroups in the process. We provide evidence that A n and S n are not split extensions by these normal subgroups, by showing that any such complement if it exists, cannot be a limit of definable sets. We conclude by identifying an -valued metric on and (where B S , B A are the maximal normal subgroups of S n and A n identified earlier) making these groups into topological groups, and by showing that if is -saturated then and are complete with respect to this metric.   相似文献

Let be the modular curve associated to a congruence subgroup Γ of level N with , and let be its canonical model over . The main aim of this paper is to show that the endomorphism algebra of its Jacobian is generated by the Hecke operators T p , with , together with the “degeneracy operators” D M,d , D t M,d , for . Let k be a finite field of characteristic p, l a prime number different from p, a nontrivial additive character, and a character on . Then ψ defines an Artin-Schreier sheaf on the affine line , and χ defines a Kummer sheaf on the n-dimensional torus . Let be a Laurent polynomial. It defines a k-morphism . In this paper, we calculate the weights of under some non-degeneracy conditions on f. Our results can be used to estimate sums of the form

The hyperoctahedral group H in n dimensions (the Weyl group of Lie type B n ) is the subgroup of the orthogonal group generated by all transpositions of coordinates and reflections with respect to coordinate hyperplanes.With e 1 , ..., e n denoting the standard basis vectors of n and letting x k = e 1 + ··· + e k (k = 1, 2, ..., n), the set
is the vertex set of a generalized regular hyperoctahedron in n . A finite set with a weight function is called a Euclidean t-design, if
holds for every polynomial f of total degree at most t; here R is the set of norms of the points in ,W r is the total weight of all elements of with norm r, S r is the n-dimensional sphere of radius r centered at the origin, and is the average of f over S r . Here we consider Euclidean designs which are supported by orbits of the hyperoctahedral group. Namely, we prove that any Euclidean design on a union of generalized hyperoctahedra has strength (maximum t for which it is a Euclidean design) equal to 3, 5, or 7.We find explicit necessary and sufficient conditions for when this strength is 5 and for when it is 7.In order to establish our classification, we translate the above definition of Euclidean designs to a single equation for t = 5, a set of three equations for t = 7, and a set of seven equations for t = 9. Neumaier and Seidel (1988), as well as Delsarte and Seidel (1989), proved a Fisher-type inequality for the minimum size of a Euclidean t-design in n on p = |R| concentric spheres (assuming that the design is antipodal if t is odd).A Euclidean design with exactly N (n, p, t) points is called tight. We exhibit new examples of antipodal tight Euclidean designs, supported by orbits of the hyperoctahedral group, for N(n, p, t) = (3, 2, 5), (3, 3, 7), and (4, 2, 7).  相似文献

Pairs of numerically satisfactory solutions as for the three-term recurrence relations satisfied by the families of functions , , are given. It is proved that minimal solutions always exist, except when and z is in the positive or negative real axis, and that is minimal as whenever . The minimal solution is identified for any recurrence direction, that is, for any integer values of and . When the confluent limit , with fixed, is the main tool for identifying minimal solutions together with a connection formula; for , is the main tool to be considered.  相似文献

A solution u of a Cauchy problem for a semilinear heat equation

Suppose that is a radially symmetric function such that and (u 0) t change sign at most finitely many times. We determine the exact blowup rate of Type II blowup solution with initial data u 0 in the case of p > p L , where p L is the Lepin exponent.  相似文献

By Beurling’s theorem, the orthogonal projection onto an invariant subspace M of the Hardy space on the unit disk can be represented as where Φ is an inner multiplier of . This concept can be carried over to arbitrary Nevanlinna-Pick spaces but fails in more general settings. This paper introduces the notion of Beurling decomposable subspaces. An invariant subspace M of a reproducing kernel Hilbert space will be called Beurling decomposable if there exist (operator-valued) multipliers such that and . We characterize the finite-codimensional and the finite-rank Beurling decomposable subspaces by means of their core function and core operator. As an application, we show that in many analytic Hilbert modules , every finite-codimensional submodule M can be written as with suitable polynomials p i .   相似文献

We consider the problem
where Ω is a bounded smooth domain in , 1  <  p< + ∞ if N = 2, if N ≥ 3 and ε is a parameter. We show that if the mean curvature of ∂Ω is not constant then, for ε small enough, such a problem has always a nodal solution u ε with one positive peak and one negative peak on the boundary. Moreover, and converge to and , respectively, as ε goes to zero. Here, H denotes the mean curvature of ∂Ω. Moreover, if Ω is a ball and , we prove that for ε small enough the problem has nodal solutions with two positive peaks on the boundary and arbitrarily many negative peaks on the boundary. Important examples of classes of functions are the classes of sets (elements of ω 2) which separate a given pair of disjoint r.e. sets: . A wider class consists of the classes of functions f ω k which in a generalized sense separate a k-tuple of r.e. sets (not necessarily pairwise disjoint) for each kω: . We study the structure of the Medvedev degrees of such classes and show that the set of degrees realized depends strongly on both k and the extent to which the r.e. sets intersect. Let denote the Medvedev degrees of those such that no m + 1 sets among A 0,...,A k-1 have a nonempty intersection. It is shown that each is an upper semi-lattice but not a lattice. The degree of the set of k-ary diagonally nonrecursive functions is the greatest element of . If 2 ≤ l < k, then 0 M is the only degree in which is below a member of . Each is densely ordered and has the splitting property and the same holds for the lattice it generates. The elements of are exactly the joins of elements of for . Let S be an infinite set of rational primes and, for some pS, let be the compositum of all extensions unramified outside S of the form , for . If , let be the intersection of the fixed fields by , for i = 1, . . , n. We provide a wide family of elliptic curves such that the rank of is infinite for all n ≥ 0 and all , subject to the parity conjecture. Similarly, let be a polarized abelian variety, let K be a quadratic number field fixed by , let S be an infinite set of primes of and let be the maximal abelian p-elementary extension of K unramified outside primes of K lying over S and dihedral over . We show that, under certain hypotheses, the -corank of sel p ∞(A/F) is unbounded over finite extensions F/K contained in . As a consequence, we prove a strengthened version of a conjecture of M. Larsen in a large number of cases.  相似文献

This paper is devoted to the study of uniform energy decay rates of solutions to the wave equation with Cauchy–Ventcel boundary conditions:
where Ω is a bounded domain of (n ≥ 2) having a smooth boundary , such that with , being closed and disjoint. It is known that if a(x) = 0 then the uniform exponential stability never holds even if a linear frictional feedback is applied to the entire boundary of the domain [see, for instance, Hemmina (ESAIM, Control Optim Calc Var 5:591–622, 2000, Thm. 3.1)]. Let be a smooth function; define ω 1 to be a neighbourhood of , and subdivide the boundary into two parts: and . Now, let ω 0 be a neighbourhood of . We prove that if a(x) ≥ a 0 > 0 on the open subset and if g is a monotone increasing function satisfying k|s| ≤ |g(s)| ≤ K|s| for all |s| ≥ 1, then the energy of the system decays uniformly at the rate quantified by the solution to a certain nonlinear ODE dependent on the damping [as in Lasiecka and Tataru (Differ Integral Equ 6:507–533, 1993)]. For closed linear operators or relations A and B acting between Hilbert spaces and the concepts of compact and finite rank perturbations are defined with the help of the orthogonal projections P A and P B in onto the graphs of A and B. Various equivalent characterizations for such perturbations are proved and it is shown that these notions are a natural generalization of the usual concepts of compact and finite rank perturbations. Sadly, our colleague and friend Peter Jonas passed away on July, 18th 2007.  相似文献

Let κ be a cardinal which is measurable after generically adding many Cohen subsets to κ and let be the κ-Rado graph. We prove, for 2 ≤ m < ω, that there is a finite value such that the set [κ] m can be partitioned into classes such that for any coloring of any of the classes C i in fewer than κ colors, there is a copy of in such that is monochromatic. It follows that , that is, for any coloring of with fewer than κ colors there is a copy of such that has at most colors. On the other hand, we show that there are colorings of such that if is any copy of then for all , and hence . We characterize as the cardinality of a certain finite set of types and obtain an upper and a lower bound on its value. In particular, and for m > 2 we have where r m is the corresponding number of types for the countable Rado graph. Research of M. Džamonja and J. A. Let be open, let be the Dirac operator in and let be the Clifford algebra constructed over the quadratic space . If for fixed, denotes the space of r-vectors in , then an -valued smooth function WW r  + W r+2 in Ω is said to satisfy the Moisil-Théodoresco system if . In terms of differential forms, this means that the corresponding - valued smooth form w = w r  + w r+2 satisfies in Ω the system d * w r = 0, dw r  + d * w r+2 = 0; dw r+2 = 0. Based on techniques and results concerning conjugate harmonic functions in the framework of Clifford analysis, a structure theorem is proved for the solutions of the Moisil-Théodoresco system.   相似文献

Another hybrid conjugate gradient algorithm is subject to analysis. The parameter β k is computed as a convex combination of (Hestenes-Stiefel) and (Dai-Yuan) algorithms, i.e. . The parameter θ k in the convex combination is computed in such a way so that the direction corresponding to the conjugate gradient algorithm to be the Newton direction and the pair (s k , y k ) to satisfy the quasi-Newton equation , where and . The algorithm uses the standard Wolfe line search conditions. Numerical comparisons with conjugate gradient algorithms show that this hybrid computational scheme outperforms the Hestenes-Stiefel and the Dai-Yuan conjugate gradient algorithms as well as the hybrid conjugate gradient algorithms of Dai and Yuan. A set of 750 unconstrained optimization problems are used, some of them from the CUTE library.   相似文献

Consider a smooth bounded domain , and the Navier–Stokes system in with initial value and external force f =  div F, where , are so-called Serrin exponents. It is an important question what is the optimal (weakest possible) initial value condition in order to obtain a unique strong solution in some initial interval [0, T), . Up to now several sufficient conditions on u 0 are known which need not be necessary. Our main result, see Theorem 1.1, shows that the condition , A denotes the Stokes operator, is sufficient and necessary for the existence of such a strong solution u. In particular, if , , then any weak solution u in the usual sense does not satisfy Serrin’s condition for each 0 < T ≤ ∞.   相似文献

The main result of this work is a Dancer-type bifurcation result for the quasilinear elliptic problem
((P))
Here, Ω is a bounded domain in denotes the Dirichlet p-Laplacian on , and is a spectral parameter. Let μ1 denote the first (smallest) eigenvalue of −Δ p . Under some natural hypotheses on the perturbation function , we show that the trivial solution is a bifurcation point for problem (P) and, moreover, there are two distinct continua, and , consisting of nontrivial solutions to problem (P) which bifurcate from the set of trivial solutions at the bifurcation point (0, μ1). The continua and are either both unbounded in E, or else their intersection contains also a point other than (0, μ1). For the semilinear problem (P) (i.e., for p = 2) this is a classical result due to E. N. Dancer from 1974. We also provide an example of how the union looks like (for p > 2) in an interesting particular case. Our proofs are based on very precise, local asymptotic analysis for λ near μ1 (for any 1 < p < ∞) which is combined with standard topological degree arguments from global bifurcation theory used in Dancer’s original work.
