The error probability for a coherent optical heterodyne FSK system with a limiter-discriminator-integrator (LDI) detector is analysed. The analysis includes laser quantum phase noise, the correlated receiver additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN), Gaussian narrow-band IF filtering and intersymbol interference (ISI) caused by it. It is shown that, for 1 dBEb/N 0penalty at bit error rate (BER) 10–9, (i) the normalized IF beat spectral linewidth T0.35% for frequency deviation ratioh=0.5(MSK), and T0.5% forh=0.7 (the receiver is insensitive to laser quantum phase noise ath=1.0, if ISI is not included.); (ii) if ISI is incorporated, T0.15% forh=0.5, T0.5% forh=0.7, both with 3dB bandwidth-bit period product (3.0>BT1.5), and T0.5% forh=1.0 with BT1.0 ifT0.35% when ISI exists,h=0.7 is optimum;h=1.0 otherwise.  相似文献

We describe a new class of single spin measures on then-dimensional sphereS r n of radiusr (n 4) for which Lebowitz-type [J. Lebowitz,J. Stat. Phys. 16:463 (1977)] inequalities hold. This is achieved by an appropriate parametrization ofS r n . The above class includes the uniform measures onxs Rn ¦x¦ r for any 0 p r. The second topic of this paper is an abstract formulation of the first Griffiths inequality [R. B. Griffiths,J. Math. Phys. 8:478 (1967)] and the underlying symmetry property.  相似文献

A variety of rigorous inequalities for critical exponents is proved. Most notable is the low-temperature Josephson inequalitydv +2 2–. Others are 1 1 +v, 1 1 , 1,d 1 + 1/ (for d),dv, 3 + (for d), 4 , and 2m 2m+2 (form 2). The hypotheses vary; all inequalities are true for the spin-1/2 Ising model with nearest-neighbor ferromagnetic pair interactions.NSF Predoctoral Fellow (1976–1979). Following Bondi static, spherically symmetric equilibrium configurations with a core and an envelope have been considered. It has been shown that for any configurations with nonnegative pressure and density and with a surface red-shiftz s 4.77 arbitrarily large central red-shiftsz c are possible in the limiting case of arbitrarily large radius. The effects of imposition of further constraints in the form of a real speed of sound not exceeding the speed of light are also examined. It is seen that for a given limiting sound-to-light-speed ratio . (i) There exists a limiting surface red-shiftz s() 1.71. (ii) A configuration withz s >z s() is not possible, (iii) A configuration withz s=z s() has a unique and finitez c=z c(). (iv) Forz s<z s() arbitrarily large central red-shifts can be obtained for configurations with arbitrarily large radii.  相似文献

The first ten terms of the high-temperature expansion of the susceptibility of the single-band Hubbard model in the strong correlation limit are obtained for arbitrary electron density. The series is analyzed by ratio methods and Padé approximants. That a self-gravitating perfect fluid in empty space has a spherical equilibrium configuration if it is static-i.e., nonrotating-is considered physically evident, but has not yet been rigorously derived from Einstein's field equations together with suitable asymptotic conditions. In this paper the global analysis techniques developed recently mainly by Fischer, Marsden, and Cantor are used to derive the result that if a family of static perfect fluid solutions with fixed total gravitational massm and fixed equation of state(p) satisfying 0 p and 0 d/dp < depends differentiably on a parameter and contains the spherically symmetric solution then it must consist of solutions diffeomorphic to the spherically symmetric one.Partially supported by the National Sciences and Engineering Research Council, grant No. A8059.  相似文献

The pivot algorithm is a dynamic Monte Carlo algorithm, first invented by Lal, which generates self-avoiding walks (SAWs) in a canonical (fixed-N) ensemble with free endpoints (hereN is the number of steps in the walk). We find that the pivot algorithm is extraordinarily efficient: one effectively independent sample can be produced in a computer time of orderN. This paper is a comprehensive study of the pivot algorithm, including: a heuristic and numerical analysis of the acceptance fraction and autocorrelation time; an exact analysis of the pivot algorithm for ordinary random walk; a discussion of data structures and computational complexity; a rigorous proof of ergodicity; and numerical results on self-avoiding walks in two and three dimensions. Our estimates for critical exponents are=0.7496±0.0007 ind=2 and= 0.592±0.003 ind=3 (95% confidence limits), based on SAWs of lengths 200N10000 and 200N 3000, respectively.  相似文献

We study the limit theorem related to the interface of the three-dimensional Ising model. Dobrushin proved that the interface does not fluctuate and becomes rigid for sufficiently large. We define the random fieldX L (t, s), 0t, s1, on the interface, and prove that XL(t, s) converges to the Brownian sheet as L for sufficiently large, whereL denotes the size of the system. The eight-vertex model is equivalent to a solid-on-solid (SOS) model, in which an integer heightl i is associated with each sitei of the square lattice. The Boltzmann weights of the model are expressed in terms of elliptic functions of period 2K, and involve a variable parameter . Here we begin by showing that the hard hexagon model is a special case of this eight-vertex SOS model, in which =K/5 and the heights are restricted to the range 1l i4. We remark that the calculation of the sublattice densities of the hard hexagon model involves the Rogers-Ramanujan and related identities. We then go on to consider a more general eight-vertex SOS model, with =K/r (r an integer) and 1l ir–1. We evaluate the local height probabilities (which are the analogs of the sublattice densities) of this model, and are automatically led to generalizations of the Rogers-Ramanujan and similar identities. Following an approach of Toulouse, ground states in random 2D Ising ±J spin glasses (without external magnetic field), on square lattices, and with concentrations 0p0.5 of antiferromagnetic bonds are studied by means of minimal matchings of frustrated plaquettes. Lete(p) be the ground-state energy per spin in the thermodynamic limit. Then the well-known equatione(p)=–2+(p)f(p) holds, wheref(p) is the concentration of frustrated plaquettes and(p) is the average connection length between paired frustrated plaquettes in minimal matchings. Introducing (p) as the probability that a frustrated plaquette is matched to another frustrated plaquette by a connection of length (in a minimal matching), the average length(p) can be rewritten asgl(p)=(p). The study of(p) and its components (p) leads to an intervalp *pp 2 (p *0.121±0.008,p 20.161±0.008) where the threshold between ferromagnet and paramagnet forT=0 lies. Analyzing a similar so-called adjoined average lengthl(p) admits further insight.  相似文献

The partition function for ferromagnetic plane rotators in a complex external field , with ¦Im ¦ ¦Re ¦, is bounded below in modulus by its value at =0. The proof is based on complex combinations of duplicated variables which are positive definite on a subgroup of the configuration group. The concept of the probability of formation Wc of particles in the surface region of nuclei is used in a classification of transitions of even-even deformed nuclei (226 A 254) to the first four levels of the ground-state rotational band of the daughter nuclei with allowance for coupling of the decay channels. The calculated values of Wc are compared with the analogous quantities in spherical nuclei and are used as a basis for the classification of transitions in deformed nuclei. It is concluded that the phase factors of the wave functions with L=0 and 2 are positive, while those with L=4 are positive for the investigated isotopes of Th, U, and Pu and negative for Cm, Cf, and Fm. We consider the grand canonical partition function for the ordered one-dimensional, two-component plasma at fugacity in an applied electric fieldE with Dirichlet boundary conditions. The system has a phase transition from a low-coupling phase with equally spaced particles to a high-coupling phase with particles clustered into dipolar pairs. An exact expression for the partition function is developed. In zero applied field the zeros in the plane occupy the imaginary axis from –i to –ic and ic to i for some c. They also occupy the diamond shape of four straight lines from ±ic to c and from ±ic to –c. The fugacity acts like a temperature or coupling variable. The symmetry-breaking field is the applied electric fieldE. A finite-size scaling representation for the partition in scaled coupling and scaled electric field is developed. It has standard mean field form. When the scaled coupling is real, the zeros in the scaled field lie on the imaginary axis and pinch the real scaled field axis as the scaled coupling increases. The scaled partition function considered as a function of two complex variables, scaled coupling and scaled field, has zeros on a two-dimensional surface in a domain of four real variables. A numerical discussion of some of the properties of this surface is presented.  相似文献

It is shown that during an isotropic gravitational collapse of a fluid with infinite electrical conductivity, the magnetic energy density cannot grow faster than 4/3 no matter the equation of state, where is the total proper energy density. If the equation of state is=c 2, where 01, then the rate of growth of the magnetic energy density in such a collapse is proportional to 4/3(1+). If an isotropic collapse is also locally adiabatic, it is shown, independently of any equation of state, that the rate of increase of the magnetic energy density is proportional tor 4/3, wherer is the proper material density. If the collapse is nonisotropic, shear can modify these results. Numerical estimates of the magnetic field strength at various stages in the collapse of a magnetic star are given.  相似文献

We derive a finite-size scaling representation for the partition function for an Onsager-Temperley string model with a wetting transition, and analyze the zeros of this partition function in the complex scaled coupling parameter of relevance. The system models the one-dimensional interface between two phases in a rectangular two-dimensional region (x, y) 2,–L yL,oxN. The two phases are at coexistence. The string or interface has a surface tension 2KkT per unit length and an extra Boltzmann weighta per unit length if it touches the surfaces aty=±L. There is a critical valuea c=1/2K and fora>a c the string is confined to one of the surfaces, while fora a c the string moves roughly in the rectangular region. The finite-size scaling parameters are =a c 2 N/L 2 and =L(a–a c)/a c 2 . We find that for || large, the zeros of the scaled partition function lie close to the lines arg()=±/4 with re()>0. We discuss the motion of all the zeros as changes by both analytic and numerical arguments.  相似文献

We prove the conjecture of Bhatti and Essam that the Möbius function of this set is given, for acyclicb,b uv withbb, by(b,b)=(–1) c-c , wherec andc are the respective cycle ranks ofb andb. The triton energy spectrum of the muon capture reaction µ3Het+µ where µ3He is the ground state of muonic3He, has been measured by means of a high-pressure ionization chamber in order to investigate a possible heavyv admixture into the µ flavor with high sensitivity. The upper limit of the µ-heavy vi mixing matrix element squared was obtained to be Uµi210–3 for heavy neutrino masses in the range of 25 E0V75 MeV.  相似文献
