The unsteady two-dimensional laminar flow of a viscous incompressible and electrically conducting fluid near an oscillating porous plate in the presence of uniform suction, is investigated. The solutions for the velocity, magnetic field, electric current density, temperature and Nusselt number are given in a closed form for the case of the magnetic Prandtl number being equal to unity. The other significant constants are the Eckert number, the fluid Prandtl number and the frequency of oscillation. The influence of these parametres on the solutions is given in both tabulated and graphical forms.  相似文献

Influence of radiation on unsteady hydromagnetic natural convection transient flow near an impulsively moving vertical flat plate with ramped wall temperature in a porous medium is studied. Exact solution of momentum and energy equations, under Boussinesq approximation, is obtained in closed form by Laplace transform technique. The variations in fluid velocity and temperature are shown graphically whereas numerical values of skin friction and Nusselt number are presented in tabular form.  相似文献

The unsteady laminar free convection flow between two long vertical parallel plates with ramped wall temperature at one boundary has been investigated in the presence of thermal radiation and chemical species concentration. The exact solutions of the momentum, energy and concentration equations have been obtained using the Laplace transform technique. The velocity and temperature profiles, skin-friction and Nusselt number variations are shown graphically and the numerical values of the volume flow rate, the total heat rate and species rate added to the fluid are presented in a table. The influence of different system parameters such as the radiation parameter (R), buoyancy ratio parameter (N), Schmidt number (Sc) and time (t) has been analyzed carefully. A critical analysis of the coupled heat and mass transfer phenomena is provided. The free convective flow due to ramped wall temperature has also been compared with the baseline case of flow due to constant wall temperature.  相似文献

The unsteady natural convection flow of a viscous and incompressible fluid through a porous medium with high porosity bounded by a vertical infinite stationary plate in the presence of radiation has been investigated. The fluid is assumed to be a gray, emitting and absorbing radiation, but non-scattering medium. The effects of the radiation parameter, Grashof number and permeability parameter of the medium on the velocity field as well as the effects of the radiation parameter and Prandtl number on the temperature field have been included in the analysis.  相似文献

A theoretical analysis of three-dimensional Couette flow with radiation effect on temperature distribution has been analysed, when the injection of the fluid at the lower stationary plate is a transverse sinusoidal one and its corresponding removal by constant suction through the upper porous plate is in uniform motion. Due to this type of injection velocity, the flow becomes three-dimensional. The effect of Prandtl number, radiation parameter and injection parameter on rate of heat transfer has been examined by the help of graphs. The Prandtl number has a much greater effect on the temperature distribution than the injection or radiation parameter.  相似文献

The free convection flow of an electrically conducting liquid from an infinite plate has been studied in the presence of a uniform magnetic field. General expressions for the velocity field, induced magnetic field, skin-friction and temperature distribution have been obtained when the plate is a perfect conductor and its temperature varies with the law t n e at . The results have been presented through some graphs and tables with the magnetic Prandtl number unity as its value.  相似文献

The effects of viscous dissipation are considered for natural convection flow past a semi-infinite inclined plate with variable surface temperature. Velocity and temperature profiles, skin friction, and rate of heat transfer are obtained. The effects of Grashof and Prandtl numbers, inclination angle, exponent in the wall temperature variation law, and viscous dissipation parameter on the flow are discussed. It is shown that the time required to reach steady states increases with increasing Prandtl number of the fluid. In addition, an increase in the plate temperature due to viscous dissipation was found to lead to a rise in the average skin friction and a decrease in the average Nusselt number.  相似文献

Summary An analytical study has been made to estimate the effect of suction on heat transfer in the laminar boundary layer on a flat plate when the fluid is flowing with heat sources in it. Results have been obtained for Prandtl number equal to unity when the suction parameter is greater than 3.  相似文献

A technique of the state space approach and the inversion of the Laplace transform method are applied to dimensionless equations of an unsteady one-dimensional boundary-layer flow due to heat and mass transfer through a porous medium saturated with a viscoelastic fluid bounded by an infinite vertical plate in the presence of a uniform magnetic field is described. Complete analytical solutions for the temperature, concentration, velocity, and induced magnetic and electric fields are presented. The inversion of the Laplace transforms is carried out by using a numerical approach. The proposed method is used to solve two problems: boundary-layer flow in a viscoelastic fluid near a vertical wall subjected to the initial conditions of a stepwise temperature and concentration and viscoelastic fluid flow between two vertical walls. The solutions are found to be dependent on the governing parameters including the Prandtl number, the Schmidt number, the Grashof number, reaction rate coefficient, viscoelastic parameter, and permeability of the porous medium. Effects of these major parameters on the transport behavior are investigated methodically, and typical results are illustrated to reveal the tendency of the solutions. Representative results are presented for the velocity, temperature, concentration, and induced magnetic and electric field distributions, as well as the local skin-friction coefficient and the local Nusselt and Sherwood numbers.  相似文献

The steady laminar boundary layer flow along a flat plate is studied taking into account the variation of fluid viscosity and fluid Prandtl number with temperature. In the forced convection case the plate moves with constant velocity and its temperature varies in power law with x. In the mixed convection case the plate temperature is constant and the fluid moves upwards due to an external free stream and due to buoyancy forces. The results are obtained with the direct numerical solution of the boundary layer equations. The study concerns the wall heat transfer, the wall shear stress and velocity and temperature profiles across the boundary layer. The results of the present work are different from those existing in the literature, which have been obtained with the assumption of constant Pr number.  相似文献

A collocated, non-orthogonal grid based finite volume technique has been applied for investigating the two dimensional natural convective flow and heat transfer around a heated cylinder kept in a square enclosure. The effects of different enclosure wall thermal boundary conditions, fluid Prandtl number and the ratio between enclosure and cylinder dimensions (aspect ratio) upon the flow and thermal features, have been systematically studied. It is observed that the patterns of recirculatory flow and thermal stratification in the fluid are significantly modified, if any of these parameters is varied. The overall heat transfer rates are also affected due to the changes in the flow and temperature patterns. The study presents useful observations regarding the variation of local Nusselt number along each wall, for the different cases considered. Transient analysis has been investigated numerically to determine heat transfer by natural convection between concentric and vertically eccentric spheres with constant heat flux on the inner wall and a specified isothermal temperature on the outer wall. The governing equations, in terms of vorticity, stream function and temperature are expressed in a spherical polar coordinate system. The alternating direction implicit method and the successive over-relaxation techniques are applied to solve the finite difference form of governing equations. A physical model is introduced which accounts for the effects of fluid buoyancy as well as eccentricity of the outer sphere. Transient solutions of the entire flow field are obtained for a range of modified Rayleigh number (103<Ra?<5×105), for a Prandtl number of 0.7 and a radius ratio of 2.0, with the outer sphere near the top and bottom of the inner sphere (ε=±0.625). Results of the parametric study conducted further reveal that the heat and flow fields are primarily dependent on the modified Rayleigh number and the eccentricity of the spherical annulus. The results of average Nusselt numbers are also compared with the results obtained for flow between two isothermal spheres.  相似文献

Assisting and opposing flows in a mixed convection boundary layer flow over an isothermal vertical plate are studied for the case of variable physical properties and uniform free stream. Fluid viscosity and thermal conductivity are assumed to be linear functions of temperature. Using local similarity the flow and heat transfer quantities are found to be functions of four parameters, i.e. Richardson number, Prandtl number, a viscosity variation parameter and a thermal conductivity variation parameter. Numerical solutions are obtained by two methods, a shooting technique and Nachtsheim-Swigert technique, for selected values of parameters appropriate for the fluids considered and specific temperatures of the plate and ambient fluid. For assisting flows, there exist solutions for all values of Richardson number while for opposing flows solutions exist only for a finite set of its values and, in addition, there also exist dual solutions. Important flow and heat transfer quantities of practical interest are determined and the influence of different parameters is discussed.  相似文献

An analytical study of fluid flow and heat transfer in a composite channel is presented. The channel walls are maintained at different constant temperatures in such a way that the temperatures do not allow for free convection. The upper plate is considered to be moving and the lower plate is fixed. The flow is modeled using Darcy–Lapwood–Brinkman equation. The viscous and Darcy dissipation terms are included in the energy equation. By applying suitable matching and boundary conditions, an exact solution has been obtained for the velocity and temperature distributions in the two regions of the composite channel. The effects of various parameters such as the porous medium parameter, viscosity ratio, height ratio, conductivity ratio, Eckert number, and Prandtl number on the velocity and temperature fields are presented graphically and discussed.  相似文献

This work provides a comprehensive theoretical analysis of a two-dimensional unsteady free convection flow of an incompressible, visco-elastic fluid past an infinite vertical porous plate. Solutions for the zero order perturbation velocity profile, the first order perturbation velocity and temperature profiles in closed form are obtained with the help of Laplace transform technique. The numerical solutions are carried out for the Prandtl number 0.1, 0.72, 1.0, 1.5 and 2.0 which are appropriate for different types of liquid metals and for different values of magnetic field parameter, M. The effects of thermal radiation and thermal buoyancy on the steady, laminar boundary layer flow over a horizontal plate is investigated. The plate temperature is assumed to be inversely proportional to the square root of the distance from the leading edge. The set of similarity equations is solved numerically, and the solutions are given for some values of the radiation and buoyancy parameters for Prandtl number unity. It is found that dual solutions exist for negative values of the buoyancy parameter, up to certain critical values. Beyond these values, the solution does no longer exist. Moreover, it is found that there is no local heat transfer at the surface except in the singular point at the leading edge. The radiation parameter is found to increase the local Stanton number.  相似文献

Heat transfer characteristics of a non-Newtonian fluid on a power-law stretched surface of variable temperature with suction or injection were investigated. Similarity solutions of the laminar boundary layer equations describing heat transfer and fluid flow in a quiescent fluid were obtained and solved numerically. Velocity and temperature profiles as well as the Nusselt number, Nu, were studied for two thermal boundary conditions; uniform surface temperature and variable surface temperature, for different parameters; Prandtl number Pr, temperature exponent b, velocity exponent m, injection parameter d and power-law index n. It was found that decreasing injection parameter d, and power-law index n and increasing Prandtl number Pr and surface temperature exponent b enhance the heat transfer coefficient. The present paper deals with thermophoresis in natural convection with variable properties for a laminar flow over a cold vertical flat plate. Variation of properties like density, viscosity and thermal conductivity with temperature is included in the formulation of the problem. Selection of components for the property ratio is made by fitting the property values between the desired temperature limits. For a selected fluid, Prandtl number variation with temperature is neglected and the Prandtl number corresponding to film temperature is used for the analysis. Solution is carried out by finite difference method. Variation of wall concentration and wall flux along the length of plate is studied. The effect of thermophoretic coefficient on wall concentration is also studied. Results are presented in the form of graphs. The result is compared with similarity solution by Runge-Kutta method and found to be accurate upto second decimal place. Received on 18 May 1998  相似文献

The problem of magneto-hydrodynamic mixed convective flow and heat transfer of an electrically conducting, power-law fluid past a stretching surface in the presence of heat generation/absorption and thermal radiation has been analyzed. After transforming the governing equations with suitable dimensionless variables, numerical solutions are generated by an implicit finite-difference technique for the non-similar, coupled flow. The solution is found to be dependent on the governing parameters including the power-law fluid index, the magnetic field parameter, the modified Richardson number, the radiation parameter, the heat generation parameter, and the generalized Prandtl number. To reveal the tendency of the solutions, typical results for the velocity and temperature profiles, the skin-friction coefficient, and the local Nusselt number are presented for different values of these controlling parameters.  相似文献

A numerical study of fluid flow and heat transfer in a two-dimensional channel under fully developed turbulent conditions is reported. A computer program which is capable of treating both forced and natural convection problems under turbulent conditions has been developed. The code uses the high-Reynolds-number form of the two equation turbulent model(k-?) in which a turbulent kinetic energy near-wall model is incorporated in order to accurately represent the behavior of the flow near the wall, particularly in the viscous sublayer where the turbulent Reynolds number is small. A near-wall temperature model has been developed and incorporated into the energy equation to allow accurate prediction of the temperature distribution near the wall and, therefore, accurate calculation of heat transfer coefficients. The sensitivity of the prediction of flow and heat transfer to variations in the coefficients used in the turbulence model is investigated. The predictions of the model are compared to available experimental and theoretical results; good agreement is obtained. The inclusion of the near-wall temperature model has further improved the predictions of the temperature profile and heat transfer coefficient. The results indicate that the turbulent kinetic energy Prandtl number should be a function of Reynolds number.  相似文献
