The problem mentioned in the titled reduces to the estimation of the rank of a collection of matrices. We consider boundary value problems in a two-component domain of the Euclidean space R n obtained by eliminating from R n the boundary G. Traces on both sides of G are defined without limit passages. In a Hilbert trace space, we introduce orthogonal projections, analogs of the Calderon projections, which are used for constructing operators whose continuous invertibility implies the solvability of the corresponding boundary value problems. For the resolvents we obtain representations similar to the Krein formula. For a symmetric differential operator we show that the constructed resolvents of boundary value problems correspond to closed (not necessarily self-adjoint) extensions of this operator in the sense of von Neumann. A new function model for an arbitrary bounded operator on a Hilbert space is constructed. This model generalizes the model of Sz.-Nagy and Foiaş for contractions and seems to be useful for operators close to an isometry (in a sense). All the model spaces are Hilbert spaces, but instead of dilation a generalization of it is used. The model admits a symmetry with respect to the map z→1/z of the complex plane. In terms of the model the question of lifting the commutant is investigated, a relationship between invariant subspaces of a unitary operator is established, and the characteristic function of the model operator is calculated. For a system of n identical particles in a homogeneous magnetic field, the discrete spectrum of the Hamiltonian Hα, m on the subspaces of functions with permutational symmetry α and rotational (SO(2)) symmetry m is studied as m→∞. The dynamics of a spatially closed universe is studied in gravitation theory by means of the eigenfunctions and eigenvalues of the 3D projection of the Dirac operator. In a gauge that we call the Ashtekar gauge and construct by using an eigenfunction of this operator, the 3D volume of a spatial section is a canonical parameter, and the energy is a positive-definite functional of the dynamical variables (on the region of the phase space in which V > 0) proportional to the corresponding eigenvalue. We prove a statement on the averaging of a hyperbolic initial-boundary-value problem in which the coefficient of the Laplace operator depends on the space L 2-norm of the gradient of the solution. The existence of the solution of this problem was studied by Pokhozhaev. In a space domain in ℝn, n ≥ 3, we consider an arbitrary perforation whose asymptotic behavior in a sense of capacities is described by the Cioranesku-Murat hypothesis.
