We present the generic formulas to calculate the ratios of neutrino masses and the Majorana phases of CP violation from the neutrino mass matrix with two independent vanishing entries in the flavor basis where the charged lepton mass matrix is diagonal. An order-of-magnitude illustration is given for seven experimentally acceptable textures of the neutrino mass matrix, and some analytical approximations are made for their phenomenological consequences at low energy scales.  相似文献

We construct an extension of the supersymmetric standard model where both CP symmetry and R-parity are spontaneously broken. We study the electroweak symmetry breaking sector of the model and find minima consistent with the experimental bounds on Higgs boson masses. Neutrino masses and mixing angles are generated through both seesaw and bilinear R-parity violation. We show that the hierarchical mass pattern is obtained, and mixings are consistent with measured values. Due to the spontaneous CP and R-parity violation, the neutrino sector is CP violating, and we calculate the corresponding phase. We further restrict the parameter space to agree with the limits on the electric dipole moment of the neutron. Finally, we study the CP violation parameter εK in the kaon system and show that we obtain results consistent with the experimental value.  相似文献

In the framework in which supersymmetry is used for understanding fermion masses rather than stabilizing the electroweak scale, we elaborate on the phenomenological analysis for the neutrino physics. A relatively large sinθ13 0.13 is naturally obtained. The model further predicts vanishingly small CP violation in neutrino oscillations. While the high scale supersymmetry generically results in a Higgs mass of about 141 GeV, our model reduces this mass to 126 GeV via introducing SU(2)L triplet fields which make the electroweak vacuum metastable (with a safe lifetime) and also contribute to neutrino masses.  相似文献

We consider non renormalization 1/M x interaction term as a perturbation of the neutrino mass matrix. We find that for the degenerate neutrino mass spectrum. We assume that the neutrino masses and mixing arise through physics at a scale intermediate between Planck Scale and the electroweak scale. We also assume, above the electroweak breaking scale, neutrino masses are nearly degenerate and their mixing is bimaximal. The perturbation generates a non zero value of θ 13, which is within reach of the high performance neutrino factory. In this paper, we find that the non zero value of θ 13 due to Planck scale effects indicates the possibility of CP violation.  相似文献

The discovery of neutrino masses has revealed a new flavour sector in the Standard Model. Just like the quark flavour sector, it contains a seed of CP violation, resulting in an asymmetric behaviour of matter and antimatter. It is argued that this new source of leptonic CP violation may be discovered in more precise neutrino oscillation experiments involving neutrino beams with energies in the GeV range that will be sent to distances of a few thousand kilometres.  相似文献

Photinos or higgsinos with mass O(100) eV are not excluded by cosmological considerations, and their radiative decays could be responsible for the surprisingly large ultra-violet background recently detected at a red-shift z∼4. The agreement of the neutrino data from supernova 1987A with standard expectations severely restricts the energy which could have been emitted via such light photinos or higgsinos, and hence constrains the parameters of models in which they appear. In the low-mass photino case, we find that squark masses between ∼60 GeV and ∼2.5 TeV are excluded. This together with laboratory limits excludes the range of squark masses generally favoured by naturalness arguments. In the low-mass higgsino case, we exclude much of the range of ratios of Higgs VEVs favoured by many models.  相似文献

We discuss the CP violation in long base line neutrino oscillation experiments. The direct measurement of CP violation is the difference of transitions probability between CP conjugate channels. The sign of Δ 31 is not yet determined, we assume two mass hierarchy conditions, normal (Δ 31>0) and inverted (Δ 31<0). In this paper, we study the CP violation and neutrino mass hierarchy effect in vacuum and matter for long baseline BNL experiments. By an appropriate chose of experimental parameter, neutrino energy and traveled distance. We find that, in matter normal mass hierarchy en-chanced maximum CP violation over their invert mass hierarchy value by 12 %.  相似文献

Here we propose an A(4) flavor symmetry model that implies a lower bound on the neutrinoless double beta decay rate, corresponding to an effective mass parameter M{ee} > or similar to 0.03 eV, and a direct correlation between the expected magnitude of CP violation in neutrino oscillations and the value of sin{2}theta{13}, as well as a nearly maximal CP phase delta.  相似文献

It is proposed that supersymmetry (SUSY) may be used to understand fermion mass hierarchies. A family symmetry ZSL is introduced, which is the cyclic symmetry among the three generation SU(2) doublets. SUSY breaks at a high energy scale - 10^11 GeV. The electroweak energy scale- 100 GeV is unnaturally small No additional global symmetry, like the R-parlty, is imposed. The Yukawa couplings and R-parity violating couplings all take their natural values, which are О(10^0 -10^-2). Under the family symmetry, only the third generation charged ferrnions get their masses. This family symmetry is broken in the soft SUSY breaking terms, which result in a hierarchical pattern of the fermion masses. It turns out that for the charged leptons, the r mass is from the Higgs vacuum expectation value (VEV) and the sneutrino VEVs, the muon mass is due to the sneutrino VEVs, and the electron gains its mass due to both ZZL and SUSY hreaking. The large neutrino mixing are produced with neutralinos playing the partial role of right-handed neutrinos. │Ve3│, which is for Ve-Vr mixing, is expected to be about 0.1. For the quarks, the third generation masses are from the Higgs VEVs, the second generation masses are from quantum corrections, and the down quark mass due to the sneutrino VEVs. It explains me/ms, ms/me, md 〉 mu and so on. Other aspects of the model are discussed.  相似文献

A systematic study of neutrino masses in models with local B-L symmetry is presented. The observed SU(4)c violation in fermion masses, which is necessary to explain why me is not equal md, is related to the scale of B-L violation. An alternative approach uses renormalization group methods to determine this scale. The heaviest neutrino mass is predicted to be 0.1–50 eV in the case of four fermion generations. Two different generation patterns for neutrino masses are found, one predicting large mixing between νe and νμ (and eventually ντ) and the other predicting leptonic mixing angles of the same order as quark mixing angles.  相似文献

The origin of the hot phase of the early universe remains so far an unsolved puzzle. A viable option is entropy production through the decays of heavy Majorana neutrinos whose lifetimes determine the initial temperature. We show that baryogenesis and the production of dark matter are natural by-products of this mechanism. As is well known, the cosmological baryon asymmetry can be accounted for by leptogenesis for characteristic neutrino mass parameters. We find that thermal gravitino production then automatically yields the observed amount of dark matter, for the gravitino as the lightest superparticle and typical gluino masses. As an example, we consider the production of heavy Majorana neutrinos in the course of tachyonic preheating associated with spontaneous BL breaking. A quantitative analysis leads to constraints on the superparticle masses in terms of neutrino masses: For a light neutrino mass of 10−5 eV the gravitino mass can be as small as 200 MeV, whereas a lower neutrino mass bound of 0.01 eV implies a lower bound of 9 GeV on the gravitino mass. The measurement of a light neutrino mass of 0.1 eV would rule out heavy neutrino decays as the origin of entropy, visible and dark matter.  相似文献

We present a necessary condition on the solar oscillation amplitude for CP violation to be detectable through neutrinoless double beta (0νββ) decay. It depends only on the fractional uncertainty in the νe–νe element of the neutrino mass matrix. We demonstrate that even under very optimistic assumptions about the sensitivity of future experiments to the absolute neutrino mass scale, and on the precision with which nuclear matrix elements that contribute to 0νββ decay are calculable, it will be impossible to detect neutrino CP violation arising from Majorana phases.  相似文献

The see-saw mechanism to generate small neutrino masses is reviewed. After summarizing our current knowledge about the low energy neutrino mass matrix, we consider reconstructing the see-saw mechanism. Indirect tests of see-saw are leptogenesis and lepton flavour violation in supersymmetric scenarios, which together with neutrino mass and mixing define the framework of see-saw phenomenology. Several examples are given, both phenomenological and GUT-related.   相似文献

We analyse the general constraints on unified gauge models with spontaneous CP breaking that satisfy the conditions that (i) CP violation in the quark sector is described by a realistic complex CKM matrix, and (ii) there is no significant flavor changing neutral current effects in the quark sector. We show that the crucial requirement in order to conform to the above conditions is that spontaneous CP breaking occurs at a very high scale by complex vevs of standard model singlet Higgs fields. Two classes of models are found, one consisting of pure Higgs extensions and the other one involving fermionic extensions of the standard model. We give examples of each class and discuss their possible embeddings into higher unified theories. One of the models has the interesting property that spontaneous CP violation is triggered by spontaneous P violation, thereby linking the scale of CP violation to the seesaw scale for neutrino masses.  相似文献

Non-standard physics which can be described by effective four fermion interactions may be an additional source of CP violation in the neutrino propagation. We discuss the detectability of such a CP violation at a neutrino factory. We assume the current baseline setup of the international design study of a neutrino factory (IDS-NF) for the simulation. We find that the CP violation from certain non-standard interactions is, in principle, detectable significantly below their current bounds – even if there is no CP violation in the standard oscillation framework. Therefore, a new physics effect might be mis-interpreted as the canonical Dirac CP violation, and a possibly even more exciting effect might be missed.  相似文献

The contribution of scale-dependent vacuum expectation values (VEVs) of Higgs scalars, which gives significant effects in the evolution of the fundamental fermion masses in the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM), is now considered in the derivation of the analytic one-loop expression for the evolution of the left-handed Majorana neutrino masses with energies. The inclusion of such an effect of the running VEV increases the stability of the neutrino masses under quantum corrections even for the low values of at the scale GeV, and leads to a mild decrease of the neutrino masses with higher energies. Such a trend is common with that of other fundamental fermion masses. Received: 18 September 2000 / Published online: 23 February 2001  相似文献

No Heading Several works analyzing the new physics contributions from the Left-Right Symmetric Model to the CP violation phenomena in the neutral B mesons can be found in the literature. These works exhibit interesting and experimentally sensible deviations from the Standard Model predictions but at the expense of considering a low right scale υR around 1 TeV. However, when we stick to the more conservative estimates for υR, which say that it must be at least 107 GeV, no experimentally sensible deviations from the Standard Model appear for indirect CP violation. This estimate for υR arises when the generation of neutrino masses is considered. In spite of the fact that this scenario is much less interesting and says nothing new about both the CP violation phenomenon and the structure of the Left-Right Symmetric Model, this possibility must be taken into account for the sake of completeness and when considering the see-saw mechanism that provides masses to the neutrino sector. 1 Associate researcher of the Centro Internacional de Física, Ciudad Universitaria, Bogotá D.C., Colombia.  相似文献

We study constraints on neutrino properties for a class of bi-large mixing See-Saw mass matrices with texture zeros and with the related Dirac neutrino mass matrix to be proportional to a diagonal matrix of the form diag(ε,1,1). Texture zeros may occur in the light (class a) or in the heavy (class b) neutrino mass matrices. Each of these two classes has 5 different forms which can produce non-trivial three generation mixing with at least one texture zero. We find that two types of texture zero mass matrices in both class a and class b can be consistent with present data on neutrino masses and mixing. None of the neutrinos can have zero masses and the lightest of the light neutrinos has a mass larger than about 0.046 eV for class a and 0.0027 eV for class b. In these models although the CKM CP violating phase vanishes, the non-zero Majorana phases can exist and can play an important role in producing the observed baryon asymmetry in our universe through leptogenesis mechanism. The requirement of producing the observed baryon asymmetry can further distinguish different models and also restrict the See-Saw scale to be in the range of 1012~1015 GeV. We also discuss RG effects on V13.  相似文献
