The purely cubic action in the string field theory is shown to provide a set of equations of motion for background fields which agree to those obtained by the vanishing condition of ß-functions in the non-linear sigma model. Using the sigma model as an auxiliary tool, a systematic method for solving the string field theory in curved space is proposed.  相似文献

A new, “off-shell”, approach to conformal invariance, β-functions and field equations in first quantized string theory is presented. The method, valid to all orders in the weak-field expansion and non-perturbatively in α′, is illustrated for a tachyon background at genus zero and one level. For a particular choice, we derive a Zamolodchikov-type equation for the effective action.  相似文献

By using the extended double complex method proposed previously, the 1-loop string background equations with axion and dilaton fields in 4 dimensions with two commuting Killing symmetries and c = 0 are reduced essentially to two double Ernst -models. Then the string Geroch group acting on the solution space is extended to a multi-fold version of a semidirect product of the string Geroch group and the Virasoro group. The usual string Geroch group is just one component of a subgroup in the multi-fold semidirect product group. It is also found that a dobule Z2 symmetry exists for every case of the 4-dimensional reduced string equations and for most of the cases here, this Z2 symmetry is new and cannot be obtained in the usual (non-double) scheme. These results show that the reduced string background equations considered possess more and richer symmetry structures than previously expected. Moreover, a double form of string soliton method is briefly described and, as an application, a multiple family of soliton solutions of the considered reduced string equations is given, which shows that the double method is more effective.  相似文献

In this paper we discuss the existence of quantum D-brane states in the strong gravitational field and in the presence of a constant Kalb-Ramond field. A semiclassical string quantization method in which the spacetime metric g AB and the constant antisymmetric Kalb-Ramond field b AB are treated exactly is employed. In this framework, the semiclassical D-branes are defined at the first order perturbation around the trajectory of the center-of-mass of a string. The set of equations the semiclassical D-branes must satisfy in a general strong gravitational field are given. These equations are solved in the AdS background where it is shown that a D-brane coherent state exists if the operators that project the string fields onto the corresponding Neumann and Dirichlet directions satisfy a set of algebraic constraints. A second set of equations that should be satisfied by the projectors in order that the semiclassical state be compatible with the global structure of the D-brane are derived in the particle limit of a string in the torsionless AdS background.  相似文献

We discuss the constraints imposed by the unitary of the S-matrix on the theory of a closed basonic string propagating in a background consisting of a condensate of the string modes. The equations of motion for some of the low mass modes are thus obtained to all orders in α′ but to second order in a weak field expansion about a flat background.  相似文献

Cosmological implications on the polarization of the cosmic microwave background radiation, of a Kalb–Ramond field interacting with gauge fields and gravity as dictated by quantum consistency of heterotic string theory are surveyed. A parity violating augmentation going beyond the dictates of string theory is shown to lead to possible appearance of a B mode generated in the cosmic microwave background (CMB) in the post-last scattering epoch. This generation of the B mode of CMB appears to be dramatic when the augmentation is embedded within a Randall–Sundrum braneworld scenario of the first kind.  相似文献

A path integral expression for closed Nambu-Goto strings interacting by breaking and joining is shown to be pathological by using an equivalent euclidean lattice field theory. A class of interactions which correct this problem is discussed. Dyson-Schwinger equations are derived for string vacuum expectation values.  相似文献

The main limitations of string field theory arise because its present formulation requires a background representing a classical solution, a background defined by a strictly conformally invariant theory. Here we sketch a construction for a gauge-invariant string field action around non-conformal backgrounds. The construction makes no reference to any conformal theory. Its two-dimensional field-theoretic aspect is based on a generalized BRST operator satisfying a set of Weyl descent equations. Its geometric aspect uses a complex of moduli spaces of two-dimensional Riemannian manifolds having ordinary punctures, and organized by the number of special punctures which goes from zero to infinity. In this complex there is a Batalin-Vilkovisky algebra that includes naturally the operator which adds one special puncture. We obtain a classical field equation that appears to relax the condition of conformal invariance usually taken to define classical string backgrounds.  相似文献

The relationship between sigma model β-functions and string theory scattering amplitudes is proved. We derive our results for the closed bosonic string using the weak field expansion around the flat space. The equations of motion for all the background fields, including the heavy fields are considered. We show that the effective equations for the light fields are obtained by integrating out the heavy fields. It is shown that the contributions to the β-functions come from the boundary of moduli space on a punctured Riemann surface. String loop corrections to the equations of motion are also studied.  相似文献

We present methods for the construction of exact diagonal cylindrically symmetric solutions in a four dimensional low energy limit of string theory, the Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton gravity. The methods allow us to generate exact string backgrounds from known solutions to the equations of Einstein or Einstein gravity coupled to a massless scalar field. We also give and analyze explicit examples of such solutions. It is shown that they are free of curvature singularities,(quasi)regular on the axis of symmetry, asymptotically flat and describe nonrotating cosmic strings interacting with gravitational, dilaton and electromagnetic waves.  相似文献

A new heterotic N = 2 string with manifest target space supersymmetry is constructed by combining a conventional N = 2 string in the right-moving sector and a Green-Schwarz-Berkovits type string in the left-moving sector. The corresponding sigma mode] is then obtained by turning on background fields for the massless excitations. We compute the beta functions and we partially check the OPE's of the superconformal algebra perturbatively in t', all in superspace. The resulting field equations describe N = 1 self-dual supergravity.  相似文献

We derive the quantum constraint algebra for a closed bosonic string moving in a gravitational and dilaton background to first order in '. The hamiltonian approach is used to directly compute the quantum constraint commutators and calculate the c-and q-number anomalies that arise at the quantum level. The requirement that the algebra preserves the conformal invariance leads to the known background field equations.  相似文献

We consider the bosonic string path integral over degenerating Riemann surfaces. We first review the factorization of conformal field theory on a degenerating surface. A careful treatment of the degeneration of the measure for moduli leads to a modification of the usual ghost insertions so as to assure covariance under a change of conformal frame. More generally, amplitudes with BRST invariant but conformally non-invariant operators are well defined with the covariant ghost insertions. As a detailed application we study the string modifications to the background field equations. We find to first order in the tadpole and all orders in string coupling that the ratio of the graviton source, dilaton source, and zero-point amplitude agrees with that found from general covariance and the soft-dilaton theorem in the low-energy field theory. We also discuss the unitarity of the bosonic string theory,  相似文献

A scalar field generalization of Xanthopoulos's cylindrically symmetric solutions of the vacuum-Einstein equations is obtained. The obtained solution preserves the properties of the Xanthopoulos solution, which are regular on the axis, asymptotically flat, and free from the curvature singularities. The solution describes a stable, rotating cosmic string of infinite length interacting with gravitational and scalar waves.  相似文献

A general method is proposed for the construction of a gauge-invariant canonical quantum formulation for the gauge-invariant classical theory that depends on the set of parameters. The conditions for closure of the algebra of operators, which generate quantum gauge transformations, entails constraints on the parameters of the theory. The approach described is demonstrated by the example of a closed bosonic string, interacting with a background tachyonic field. The condition of a mass shell for the tachyon is reproduced within the framework of the proposed canonical formulation. Tomsk State Pedagogical Institute. We prove the decomposition theorem for the loop homotopy Lie algebra of quantum closed string field theory and use it to show that closed string field theory is unique up to gauge transformations on a given string background and given S-matrix. For the theory of open and closed strings we use results in open-closed homotopy algebra to show that the space of inequivalent open string field theories is isomorphic to the space of classical closed string backgrounds. As a further application of the open-closed homotopy algebra, we show that string field theory is background independent and locally unique in a very precise sense. Finally, we discuss topological string theory in the framework of homotopy algebras and find a generalized correspondence between closed strings and open string field theories.  相似文献

We formulate closed string field theory as a quantum theory of modular geometry. We determine the full interacting quantum hamiltonian to all loop orders in perturbation theory. The free action has a new highly non-linear symmetry acting on the string field, and the kinetic operator. Perturbatively we demonstrate that the new theory gives the correct expression for the cosmological constant that is ultraviolet finite to one-loop order.  相似文献

We propose a gauge invariant, background independent string action, which contains open and closed string fields and no kinetic terms. The kinetic term is generated through the condensation of the string fields, which is the solution of the equations of motion. we solve the equations and show that the action is classically equivalent to the open string action proposed by Hata et al.  相似文献

Equations of motion for an electrically charged string with a current in an external electromagnetic field with regard to the first correction due to the self-action are derived. It is shown that the reparameterization invariance of the free action of the string imposes constraints on the possible form of the current. The effective equations of motion are obtained for an absolutely elastic charged string in the form of a ring (circle). Equations for the external electromagnetic fields that admit stationary states of such a ring are derived. Solutions to the effective equations of motion of an absolutely elastic charged ring in the absence of external fields as well as in an external uniform magnetic field are obtained. In the latter case, the frequency at which one can observe radiation emitted by the ring is evaluated. A model of an absolutely nonstretchable charged string with a current is proposed. The effective equations of motion are derived within this model, and a class of solutions to these equations is found.  相似文献
