Feller Processes Generated by Pseudo-Differential Operators: On the Hausdorff Dimension of Their Sample Paths

Symmetric operators with real defect subspaces of the maximal dimension. Applications to differential operators

Let H be a Hilbert space and let A be a simple symmetric operator in H with equal deficiency indices d:=n_±(A)<∞. We show that if, for all λ in an open interval I⊂R, the dimension of defect subspaces Nλ(A) (=Ker(A^?−λ)) coincides with d, then every self-adjoint extension has no continuous spectrum in I and the point spectrum of is nowhere dense in I. Application of this statement to differential operators makes it possible to generalize the known results by Weidmann to the case of an ordinary differential expression with both singular endpoints and arbitrary equal deficiency indices of the minimal operator.     

Hausdorff operators on Euclidean spaces

Hausdorff operator is an important operator raised from the dilation on Euclidean space and rooted in the classical summability of number series and Fourier series. It is also connected to many well known operators in real and complex analysis. This article is a survey of some recent developments and extensions on the Hausdorff operator. Particularly, various boundedness properties of the Hausdorff operators, studied recently by our research group, are addressed.     

Asymptotic type for sectorial operators and an integral of fractional powers

There is a standard notion of type for a sectorial linear operator acting in a Banach space. We introduce a notion of asymptotic type for a linear operator V, involving estimates on the resolvent ⁻¹(λI+V) as λ→0. We show, for example, that if V is sectorial and of asymptotic type ω then the fractional power Vα is of asymptotic type αω for a suitable range of positive α. Moreover, we establish various properties of the operator ; in particular, this operator is of asymptotic type 0, for a sectorial operator V. This result has an application to the construction of operators satisfying the well-known Ritt resolvent condition.     

On the structure of spectra of periodic elliptic operators

The paper discusses the problem of absolute continuity of spectra of periodic elliptic operators. A new result on absolute continuity for a matrix operator of Schrödinger type is obtained. It is shown that all types of operators for which the absolute continuity has previously been established can be reduced to this one. It is also discovered that some natural generalizations stumble upon an obstacle in the form of non-triviality of a certain analytic bundle on the two-dimensional torus.

     

Spectral analysis for convolution operators on locally compact groups

We consider operators H_μ of convolution with measures μ on locally compact groups. We characterize the spectrum of H_μ by constructing auxiliary operators whose kernel contain the pure point and singular subspaces of H_μ, respectively. The proofs rely on commutator methods.

Iterating the Cesàro operators

The discrete Cesàro operator associates to a given complex sequence the sequence , where . When is a convergent sequence we show that converges under the sup-norm if, and only if, . For its adjoint operator , we establish that converges for any .

The continuous Cesàro operator, , has two versions: the finite range case is defined for and the infinite range case for . In the first situation, when is continuous we prove that converges under the sup-norm to the constant function . In the second situation, when is a continuous function having a limit at infinity, we prove that converges under the sup-norm if, and only if, .

     

The Point Spectrum of the Linearized Boltzmann Operator with the External-force Term in a Bounded Domain

We will investigate the point spectrum on the imaginary axis of the linearized Boltzmann operator with an external-force potential in a bounded domain whose boundary is sufficiently smooth. The boundary condition considered is the perfectly reflective boundary condition. The point spectrum on the imaginary axis is only equal to {0}. However, the null space varies with the common axes of symmetry of the domain and the external-force potential.     

Generation of analytic semigroups by generalized Ornstein-Uhlenbeck operators with potentials

It is shown that the generalized Ornstein-Uhlenbeck operator “with potential” AΦ,G,Vu:=Δu−∇Φ⋅∇u+G⋅∇u−Vu with suitable domain generates an analytic semigroup on the weighted space Lp(RN,μ), 1<p<∞, where . The result extends the generation theorem established by Metafune-Prüss-Rhandi-Schnaubelt when V≡0 to the case where V?0, while the proof is based on their useful theorem that a class of second order elliptic operators generates an analytic semigroup on the unweighted space Lp(RN).

Spectral bounds for Dirac operators on open manifolds

We extend several classical eigenvalue estimates for Dirac operators on compact manifolds to noncompact, even incomplete manifolds. This includes Friedrich’s estimate for manifolds with positive scalar curvature as well as the author’s estimate on surfaces.      

Relative essential spectra involving relative demicompact unbounded linear operators

In this article, we introduce the concept of demicompactness with respect to a closed densely defined linear operator, as a generalization of the class of demicompact operator introduced by Petryshyn in [24] and we establish some new results in Fredholm theory. Moreover, we apply the obtained results to discuss the incidence of some perturbation results on the behavior of relative essential spectra of unbounded linear operators acting on Banach spaces. We conclude by characterizations of the relative Schechter's and approximate essential spectrum.

The spectra and singular values of multidimensional integral operators with bihomogeneous kernels

We consider the multidimensional integral operators with bihomogeneous kernel invariant under all rotations. For truncated operators of the type we describe the limit behavior of the set of singular values and in the case when these operators are selfadjoint we describe the limit behavior of their spectra.     

On the spectra of finite-dimensional quadratic Bose operators
