Let H be a Hilbert space and let A be a simple symmetric operator in H with equal deficiency indices d:=n±(A)<∞. We show that if, for all λ in an open interval IR, the dimension of defect subspaces Nλ(A) (=Ker(A?λ)) coincides with d, then every self-adjoint extension has no continuous spectrum in I and the point spectrum of is nowhere dense in I. Application of this statement to differential operators makes it possible to generalize the known results by Weidmann to the case of an ordinary differential expression with both singular endpoints and arbitrary equal deficiency indices of the minimal operator.  相似文献

Hausdorff operator is an important operator raised from the dilation on Euclidean space and rooted in the classical summability of number series and Fourier series. It is also connected to many well known operators in real and complex analysis. This article is a survey of some recent developments and extensions on the Hausdorff operator. There is a standard notion of type for a sectorial linear operator acting in a Banach space. We introduce a notion of asymptotic type for a linear operator V, involving estimates on the resolvent −1(λI+V) as λ→0. We show, for example, that if V is sectorial and of asymptotic type ω then the fractional power Vα is of asymptotic type αω for a suitable range of positive α. Moreover, we establish various properties of the operator ; in particular, this operator is of asymptotic type 0, for a sectorial operator V. This result has an application to the construction of operators satisfying the well-known Ritt resolvent condition.  相似文献

The paper discusses the problem of absolute continuity of spectra of periodic elliptic operators. A new result on absolute continuity for a matrix operator of Schrödinger type is obtained. It is shown that all types of operators for which the absolute continuity has previously been established can be reduced to this one. It is also discovered that some natural generalizations stumble upon an obstacle in the form of non-triviality of a certain analytic bundle on the two-dimensional torus.

We will investigate the point spectrum on the imaginary axis of the linearized Boltzmann operator with an external-force potential in a bounded domain whose boundary is sufficiently smooth. The boundary condition considered is the perfectly reflective boundary condition. The point spectrum on the imaginary axis is only equal to {0}. It is shown that the generalized Ornstein-Uhlenbeck operator “with potential” AΦ,G,Vu:=Δu−∇Φ⋅∇u+G⋅∇uVu with suitable domain generates an analytic semigroup on the weighted space Lp(RN,μ), 1<p<∞, where . In this article, we introduce the concept of demicompactness with respect to a closed densely defined linear operator, as a generalization of the class of demicompact operator introduced by Petryshyn in [24] and we establish some new results in Fredholm theory. Moreover, we apply the obtained results to discuss the incidence of some perturbation results on the behavior of relative essential spectra of unbounded linear operators acting on Banach spaces.
