In a previous article [16] we have shown how the total absolute (Lipschitz-Killing) curvature of the immersion f:MSⁿ of a compact manifold into a sphere can be computed in a differential topological manner as the mean-value of the number of critical points of certain level-functions. (And similar the total curvature.) (comp. [12], prob. 15) Now we consider the gradient vector field of the level-functions and achieve a relation between the total curvature and the Euler characteristic, of the manifold, which can be sharpened in some cases to inequalities. Moreover it leads to the formula of Allendoerfer-Weil for compact n-dim. submanifolds of the sphere Sⁿ.     

Ein ALGOL-Programm für die Behandlung der Neutronenstreuung eines Flüssigkeitsszintillators nach der Monte Carlo-Methode

Summary A complete ALGOL-program is given for a Monte Carlo simulation of neutronscattering in a cylindrical liquid scintillator. The aim of the program is the calculation of the energy distribution of the luminiscence radiation caused by the collisions of the neutrons with theH- andC-nuclei of the liquid. The results depend essentially on the initial energy of the neutrons and on the distance between the source and the cylinder. In many cases the efficiency of the process can be increased by prescribing the caracter of the first collision of each neutron.

Systematische Beobachtung und Kontrolle unregelmäßiger Bewegungen bzw. Verhaltens von Menschen und Gütern liefern nützliche Grundlagen bei der Bearbeitung zahlreicher Aufgaben der Unternehmensführung.

Summary The utilization of film apparatus connected with steering devices for economic investigations is discussed. Some methods of application of film technique known in technical and natural sciences can be adopted for the solution of economic problems. Systematic investigations into irregular motions and behavior of men and goods give a useful basis for dealing with questions of management operation.

Résumé Les possibilités concernant l'emploi d'appareils cinématiographiques combinés avec des appareils de commande sont expliquées ici en vue d'études économiques. Certaines possibilités d'application de la technique en photo en cinéma connues dans le domaine de la technique et des sciences naturelles se prêtent à l'étude de problèmes économiques. Une observation systématique et un contrôle des mouvements irréguliers c.a.d. un contrôle de la tenue des personnes et matières sont susceptibles de fournir des bases utiles pour l'étude de nombreux problèmes qui se posent pour la conduite de l'entreprise.

     

Methoden der Punktebewertung für Kreditscoringsysteme

Zusammenfassung Kreditscoringsysteme für Konsumentenkredite sollen eine erste Einstufung des bei einem potentiellen Kunden zu erwartenden Kreditrisikos ermöglichen. Hierzu werden Kundenmerkmale numerisch quantifiziert und zu einem Bonitätsscore addiert. Anhand von konkretem Datenmaterial werden solche Quantifizierungsoder Punktebewertungsverfahren diskutiert, Verbindungen der Punkteaddition mit der Unabhängigkeitsregel zur statistischen Diskrimination hergestellt und für die praktische Eisetzbarkeit notwendige Modifikationen beschrieben. Es zeigt sich auch, daß die bisweilen vorgeschlagenen multivariaten Verfahren wie lineare oder quadratische Diskriminanzanalysen im Vergleich zur Punkteaddition keine für die Praxis relevanten Verbesserungen erbringen, wenn die Punktebewertung an diejenige der Unabhängigkeitsregel oder an die der sog. nullpunktzentrierten Punktezuordnung angepaßt wird, wobei letztere Methode sogar von mathematischen Laien (z.B. in der zuständigen Fachabteilung) leicht und intuitiv einsehbar ist.

Credit scoring systems for consumer loans should be able to estimate approximately an applicant's creditworthiness. To this end one quantifies numerically the items (variables) and adds them up to a creditworthiness score. Based upon concrete data such methods of scaling items are discussed, connections of the score adding method with the independence rule of statistical discrimination are explained and it is shown how to modify the scaling methods for practical use. Another result is that multivariate methods as discriminant analysis don't improve the misclassification rates of the simple score adding rule relevantly when the scaling of the items is adapted to the scaling of the independence rule or to the so-called zero-centered scaling method; this latter method is intuitively understandable even for mathematical laymen.
