We report on an angularly tunable laserline notch filter from 760 to 785 nm with optical density of 5.7, 3 dB bandwidth of 9 cm−1 (0.55 nm) and greater than 80% transmission. The notch filter is a single element composed of six bonded slanted reflective holographic gratings in glass.  相似文献

A compact 64‐channel hybrid demultiplexer based on silicon‐on‐insulator nanowires is proposed and demonstrated experimentally to enable wavelength‐division‐multiplexing and mode‐division‐multiplexing simultaneously in order to realize an ultra‐large capacity on‐chip optical‐interconnect link. The present hybrid demultiplexer consists of a 4‐channel mode multiplexer constructed with cascaded asymmetrical directional‐couplers and two bi‐directional 17 × 17 arrayed‐waveguide gratings (AWGs) with 16 channels. Here each bi‐directional AWG is equivalent as two identical 1 × 16 AWGs. The measured excess loss and the crosstalk for the monolithically integrated 64‐channel hybrid demultiplexer are about ‐5 dB and ‐14 dB, respectively. Better performance can be achieved by minimizing the imperfections (particularly in AWGs) during the fabrication processes.

Liquid crystal enabled multi-channel power equalizer and stabilizer   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Automatic power equalization and stabilization of a liquid crystal enabled channel-selectable optical demultiplexer is demonstrated. The variation among output signals from different channels was reduced from ∼10 dB to 0.15 dB with feedback control. The minimum ripple level of a single channel is ∼0.05 dB. As a variable optical attenuator (VOA), the attenuation range of the device is ∼12.6 dB.  相似文献

Shearing phenomena in holographic gratings formed in bleached silver-halide emulsions due to chemical processing are evaluated. These effects are introduced because of the inability of emulsion-thickness changes to explain the anomalous detuning of the peak diffraction efficiency from the expected Bragg condition. Experimental results obtained with transmission and reflection gratings are presented and discussed considering shearing effects, and the values of the shear angles calculated from the Bragg-angle deviation measurements are also provided. In order to separate the shearing phenomenon and the shrinkage of the emulsion layer, a rehalogenating bleach without fixing is used because this bleach bath introduces a minimal change in the thickness of the emulsion. The influences of exposure, spatial frequency and slant angle on shear angles are briefly analyzed and discussed.  相似文献

The diffraction characteristics of the volume holographic gratings made by multiexposures with angular multiplexing during its construction is investigated. Because of the reflection by the interface between the emulsion and the substrate or the air there is an extra unslanted periodic structure inside a slanted grating, it will affect properties of the slanted volume holographic gratings. When the angle between the surface of the substrate and the grating plane of the slanted grating is less than a certain value, an extra peak accompanying the main peak will appear in the diffraction spectrum. But, when the angle is larger than the certain value, one designed and expected main peak will disappeared while the extra peak is kept and observed. This phenomenon limits the capacity of the volume hologram for the application in wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM).  相似文献

The main conditions and parameters for obtaining surface relief total internal reflection diffraction gratings in conical mounting are presented. Calculated and experimental investigations reveal that there are ranges of grating periods, incidence angles, diffraction angles and gratings depths for which such gratings could be obtained, both for TE and TM polarizations. With optimized grating parameters the diffraction efficiency of the total internal reflection diffraction gratings can be greater than 90%.  相似文献

利用两点法(two stigmatic points method)对平场型蚀刻衍射光栅(EDG)波分复用器件进行了优化设计.与传统EDG相比,该方法以较小的性能损失为代价,极大简化了制作工艺.通过标量波动衍射理论对16通道的该型器件进行了数值模拟,结果表明:在用光探测器陈列接收的情况下,额外的功率损耗约为1dB,信道间的不均匀性小于0.3dB,串绕小于-30dB.  相似文献

Permanent refractive-index gratings are generated by thermal fixing of holograms in photorefractive lithium niobate channel waveguides. The guides are fabricated by successive indiffusion of titanium stripes and thin layers of copper. After high-temperature recording with green light, refractive-index modulations exceeding Δn=8×10-5 for light of the telecommunication wavelength 1550 nm appear without the need of any development process of the written holograms. The gratings are stable in the dark and no compensation mechanism via dark conductivity is observed. Thus this method may be well suited for long-time applications in holography and integrated optics. The polarization properties of the optical set-up used for holographic recording of diffraction gratings on azopolymer thin films are analyzed. The state of polarization of circularly polarized light is fully analyzed after reflection on a mirror at various incidences (Lloyd-mirror set-up). The Stokes analysis is performed using a photopolarimeter and the phase shift, the ellipticity and the azimuth orientation are compared with those calculated from Fresnel formulae. At large angles of incidence, an initially right circularly polarized (RCP) beam becomes elliptically polarized with an azimuth of nearly +45°. From these results, holographic diffraction gratings are recorded on an azobenzene-containing polymer thin film using (i) co- and contra-circularly polarized beams and (ii) a right circularly polarized beam interfering with a +45° linearly polarized light beam. Using Jones-matrix formalism, the polarization states of the diffracted orders from the birefringence (Δn) and the surface-relief (2Δd) gratings are derived and compared with experimental measurements. Finally, the induced local birefringences and surface-relief amplitudes are discussed in connection with atomic force microscopy measurements. The diffraction efficiencies obtained under the (+45°+RCP) and (LCP + RCP) (where LCP = left circularly polarized) configurations are thus compared and discussed. A comprehensive technique has been used to detect diffraction from the second and the third nonlinear spatial harmonic components, along with the fundamental harmonic of volume photorefractive gratings recorded in a channel waveguide in a LiNbO3 substrate. For the first time to our knowledge, efficient diffraction from the higher spatial harmonic components of a photorefractive grating has been detected in reflection geometry. The dependence of a Bragg wavelength shift on the order of nonlinearity is also reported.  相似文献

A multiplexer/demultiplexer for 100 GHz channel spacing based on chirped fibre Bragg gratings with different bandwidths and optical circulators is presented. A phase controlled multi-beam interference is applied to excite the doped liquid crystals. Control of the phase difference between the exciting beams allows the external control of the interference pattern inside the liquid crystal. The dynamic variation of the grating is made possible with a time-dependent phase change to derive the nonlinear refractive index as well as the responding speed of the material. The induced grating structure is numerically modelled with reorientational phase gratings in the liquid crystal, and the diffraction dynamics is found to be in good agreement between theoretical and experimental results.  相似文献

Volume holographic gratings and two-dimensional periodic microstructures in azodye-doped polymethylmethacrylate were fabricated, respectively, by interference of two coherent beams of a femtosecond laser and by interference of three coherent beams of a nanosecond laser. The dependence of the first-order Bragg diffraction efficiency and the photoinduced refractive-index modulation of the gratings on the intensity of the writing light was investigated. The measurements of the absorption spectra before and after irradiation with the writing light suggest that the photoinduced gratings were refractive-index-modulated gratings, which arose from a photoinduced decomposition reaction of the azodye molecules through multiphoton absorption. In the experiments involving the interference of three beams, the period of the two-dimensional periodic microstructures was changed by adjusting the angle between the three writing beams. The behaviour of a hydrophilic acrylamide photopolymer, with and without crosslinker (N,N′-methylene-bis-acrylamide), in solid layers 700 μm thick is analyzed. Slanted diffraction gratings are multiplexed at constant and variable exposure. Variable exposure time scheduling, with increased exposure time by steps is used in order to determine the effect on the dynamic range and the homogenization of diffraction efficiency values. This scheduling results in a greater dynamic range compared with constant time multiplexing. For crosslinked photopolymer, those exposure times are excessive (higher energetic sensitivity) and there is overlapping of the individual angular response curves for each stored diffraction grating.  相似文献

We report on the design of a high diffraction efficiency multi-layer dielectric grating with wide incident angle and broad bandwidth for 80Ohm. The optimized grating can achieve 〉 95% diffraction efficiency in the first order at an incident angle of 5° from Littrow and a wavelength from 77Ohm to 83Ohm, with peak diffraction efieieney of 〉 99.5% at 80Ohm. The electric field distribution of the optimized multi-layer dielectric grating within the gratings ridge is 1.3 times enhancement of the incidence light, which presents potential high laser resistance ability. Because of its high-effieieney, wide incident, broad bandwidth and potential high resistance ability, the multi-layer dielectric grating should have practical application in Ti:sapphire laser systems.  相似文献

In this letter we report a simple technique to produce volume holographic gratings based on photopolymerizable composites containing TiO2 nanoparticles. Diffraction gratings with high refractive index modulation amplitude (up to 1.25 × 10−2) have been formed due to the periodic distribution of high refractive index nanoparticles in a low refractive index polymer matrix. The diffraction efficiency increases strongly on increasing the nanoparticle concentration. Taking the mixture with 10 wt.% TiO2 nanoparticles, gratings with high diffraction efficiency, low level of scattering and high transparency in the visible-wavelength range have been obtained. This will ultimately lead to different applications of diffractive optical elements based on nanocomposites. The dependence of the gratings’ diffraction efficiency on the intensity of probe laser pulses at 1064 nm has been explored. It is shown that the nonlinear response of the gratings is attributed mainly to the nonlinear properties of the TiO2 nanoparticles embedded in the polymer matrix. The mechanism of the grating formation and the reasons for the nonlinear behavior of the diffraction efficiency are discussed.  相似文献

We demonstrate an enhanced double-pass erbium-doped fiber amplifier for multichannel amplification. The multichannel selection is formed by combining a demultiplexer and a multiplexer together in the fiber-loop mirror. The structure is able to filter out the amplified spontaneous emission that saturates the amplifier gain in the small signal regime. The maximum average gain of 47.2 dB is obtained with a gain enhancement of 12.8 dB at a ?50-dBm signal power per channel. The noise figure penalty is almost negligible for a signal power per channel of less than ?15 dBm.  相似文献

A theoretical and experimental study of speckle registering in photorefractive BSO crystals through reflection hologram geometry is implemented. The three-dimensional speckle nature is considered in the diffraction efficiency calculations. The interference process produces index-of-refraction gratings in the speckle volume via the photorefractive effect. It is demonstrated that the coupled-wave theory for reflection geometry allows explaining the diffraction efficiency behavior when the interaction length is properly taken into account. It means that the speckle depth is related with the interaction length. The speckle depth can be controlled by the imaging system pupil aperture diameter. Under this condition, the influence of the speckle depth on the diffraction efficiency is analyzed. An agreement between the numerical model based on the coupled-wave theory and the experimental results is obtained.  相似文献

Volume phase transmission gratings, that have high and uniform diffraction efficiency regardless of polarization of the incident light over a broad wavelength range, have been designed and recorded. Such gratings were incorporated successfully into a novel compact configuration of a coarse wavelength division demultiplexer. Calculated and experimental results of such gratings, and a compact four-channel demultiplexer operating in the 1500 nm to 1600 nm range are presented.  相似文献
