Abstract: | An improved multiple car-following model is proposed byconsidering the arbitrary number of preceding cars, which includesboth the headway and the velocity difference of multiple precedingcars. The stability condition of the extended model is obtained byusing the linear stability theory. The modified Korteweg--de Vriesequation is derived to describe the traffic behaviour near thecritical point by applying the nonlinear analysis. Traffic flow canbe also divided into three regions: stable, metastable and unstableregions. Numerical simulation is accordance with the analyticalresult for the model. And numerical simulation shows that thestabilisation of traffic is increasing by considering theinformation of more leading cars and there is unavoidable effect ontraffic flow from the multiple leading cars' information. |
