Abstract:A new method for the determination of cerium subgroup rare earths was studied and reported in this paper.It was found that cerium subgroup rate earth elements react with DBMCSA in 0.6 mol/L Hydrochloric acid medium to form stable blue complexes.Theabsorbances of equal amounts of cerium subgroup rare earths are close to each other at theirmaximum adsorptive wavelength (641 nm).Beer's law is ohbeyed for 0-20 g of rare earths in 25ml of solution The method has been applied to the determination of the total amount of ceriumsubgroup rate earths in steel and cast iron samples with satisfactory results.
