Abstract:Adamantane (AdH), the first member of the polycyclic diamond cage hydrocarbons, is of substantial significance and interest both theoretically and practically In this paper the synthesis of AdH from endotrimethylenenorbornane (endoTCD) on zeolites with different framework structures was investigated During the rearrangement endoTCD was transferred into exoTCD and AdH The activity and selectivity of AdH was correlated with the acidity and the pore structures of the zeolites The catalytic activity was determined by the acid site concentration on the catalyst surface, but the yield and selectivity of AdH was determined by the strength of Bronsted on the catalyst surface The AdH yield on HY zeolites was higher than that on HMd zeolites Modified improved zeolites the activity and selectivity of rearrangement reaction The order of the activity and selectivity was: conversion of endoTCD REUSY>REHY>USY>HY,REY;AdH yield REHY>REUSY>USY>REY>HY Introduction of HCl to the system was helpful for increase of the conversion and the selectivity Accompanying the production of AdH, a great deal of exoTCD could be obtained at the same time The reaction mechanism was also discussed
