Abstract:Minerals in some Chinese coals have been studied. The coal samples were ground and dried, then treated by low temperature ashing(LTA) in oxygen plasma. The sample weight loss curves of differen coal against ashing time were obtained. Lignites are always difficult to be ashed and more time is required. Moessbauer spectra can be obtained from the samples with high iron content without treatment.For those samples with low iron content, the LTA treatment is necessary. Since Moessbauer parameters of Fe~(3+) in illte and jarosite are similar, chemical treatment, washing the low temperature ash with dilute acid, are required for differentiation. Minerals in low temperature ash were also identified by XRD method. The combination of LTA, Moessbauer spectroscopy, XRD method and chemical treatment is an effective way to identify minerals in coal.
