| Abstract: | An improved synthesis of flutamide using 3-trifluoromethyanilineas a starting material is described. Treatment of 3-trifluoromethylaniline with 2-methylprop-inonyl chloride in the presence of anhydrous sodium bicarbonate as the hydrogen chloride acceptor gave 2-methyl-N-(3-trifluoro methyl)phenyl]propionamide, which was nitrated at -2 C with a fuming nitro-sulfuric acid mixture to yield corresponding 2-methyl-N-(4-nitro-3-trifluoromethyl)phenyl]propanamide. |
