Applications of Calixarene Derivatives in Analytical Chemistry

Calixarene derivatives, possessing a high degree of preorganization of the cavity size, conformation and functional groups, are ideal hosts suited to the purpose of complexa- tion and inclusion guests. They can receive either ions or neutral molecules and exhibit a high selectivity and complexing ability as compared with crown ethers. This paper gives a re- view of their applications in analytical chemisty with 52 references. The described examples concern extractant in extraction separation, carrier in liquid membrane separation and in ion selective electrode, additive in capillary electrophoresis, stationary phase in chromatography and chromoionophore or fluorionophore in optical analysis.
