Abstract:A method of oscillographic potentiometry combined with a kinetic analysis for the determination of trace phenols based on the redox reaction of bromate with bromide and the bromation reaction of phenols was developed. When the concentration of chlorhydric acid, bromate and bromide is 0. 032, 0. 0005 and 0. 001 mol/L respectively, the detection limit of chlorhydric acid the method is 0. 003 mg/L, and the relative standard deviation is 2%. If the concentration of chlorhydric acid, bromate and bromide is appropriately adjusted, the determination range can be extended to the range from nanogram level to milligram level. The proposed method is sensitive and simple, and the color in the method does not interfere with the determination. It has been applied to the determination of phenols in the environmental water samples, and the relative deviation between the results of this method and the col-orimetry using 4-amino-l-phenyl-2,3-dimethyl pyrazolidone is 3. 2-6. 6%.
