On Purity of Organic Solvents in Gradient Elution

In reversed phase high performance liquid chromatography,the baseline drift and the artifactual bands in blank gradient elution might result form the impurities from both weak aqueous and strong organic solvent.When the aqueous solvent (solvent A) is cleaned up in terms of an on-line precolumn, the purity of the organic solvent (solvent B) can be tested according to the chromatogram of the blank gradient.In this way,the different grades of acetonitrile and methanol were tested to show the feasibility with which they are applied in gradient elution.
