Influence of processing parameters on fiber damage and mechanical properties of extruded composite with aluminum matrix and short carbon fibers

Undirectionally oriented short fiber composites have been prepared by hot extrusion from aluminum powder and carbon fiber mixtures. Effects of processing parameters on fiber damage and interfacial reaction have been studied. The quality of interfacial bonding is shown to strong influence the critical fiber length and mechanical properties of short fiber composite.
