Abstract:Based on the model equations for the unconfined seepage in porous media of the order of O and the Boussinesq equations for the water waves in uniform fluids, a systematical numerical experiment of the interaction between solitary waves and structures of porous media is presented in the paper. The finite difference method is used to discretize the governing equations in spatial domain. The evolution equations are integrated in time using the predictor - corrector method. An inner iteration technique is developed to implement the conjunctive conditions of the interface between the fluid domain and the porous media. The results show that the reflection of a solitary wave from the wall of porous media is similar to that on a vertical impermeable wall, while its reflected wave height is smaller that the last one. The seepage in porous media shows up like a diffusive wave. The reflection coefficient of a solitary wave decreases as the effective porosity increases for a given permeability coefficient. If the effective porosity is given, the reflection coefficient of a solitary wave decreases also as the permeability coefficient increases.
