Abstract: | This paper studies the influence of coatings on the overall performance of the fiber-coating-host structure under thermal and mechanical load. The results demonstrate that the stress concentration near an embedded optical fiber highly depends on the properties and thickness of coating. Subject to the thermal and mechaincal load simultaneously, there exists optimal coating properties and thicknesses for a given host and fiber optical material that can reduce the stress concentration in the host material surrounding the fiber, or in the coating, or in the fiber itself. This paper is supported by Chinese National Natural Science Foundation. |
