| Abstract: | Stable optical pumping of a neon metastable atom beam is achieved using a multimode dye laser. The factors that give rise to this stability are discussed. The resultant polarized beam is suitable for the study of electron spin and orbital orientation dependences in a variety of metastable atom collision processes. |
