Abstract: | Photographs of pulsed microwave discharges initiated by a metallic sphere placed at the focus of a quasioptical electromagnetic
beam with linear polarization of the field in air, sulfur hexafluoride, hydrogen, and helium under a pressure of several hundred
Torr are presented. The common and distinctive features of the discharges in these gases are noted.
