摘    要:利用晶体的双折射和全内双反射现象以及晶体的电光效应 ,设计了一种单块晶体集成的 2× 2光开关 ,将一个电光调制器和两个光束分束器集成到一块铌酸锂晶体上 ,实现了光束合束、偏振态调制和光束分束三种功能。根据这种光开关的工作原理 ,给出两种开关结构 ,一种是易于级联的垂直入射结构 ,另一种是有较低操作电压的倾斜入射结构 ,并对倾斜入射结构的光开关进行了制作和测试。实验结果表明 :这种集成结构的 2× 2光开关操作电压低 ,串扰小 ,能量损耗小 ,抗干扰 ,稳定可靠 ,适用于各种光学互连网络。

Abstract:An integrated optical bypass-exchange switch is designed in a single block of LiNbO 3 crystal. The switch is polarization based and consists of only one birefringent crystal slab with electrooptic property. Based on both the phenomena of double refraction and internal double reflection, and the electrooptic effect in a crystal, an electrooptic modulator, two beam splitters are integrated in a single block of LiNbO 3 crystal. Two kinds of switch configurations are proposed. The one is with the normal incidence of parallel input beams (and output beams), and these switches are easily to cascade. Another is with the oblique incidence of inclined input beams (and output beams). This arrangement can provide the possibility to enhance the length of c-axis but to maintain a relatively small size, so that there is a great advantage that the operating voltage can be controlled to a quite low level. The switch with configuration of oblique incidence is fabricated and experimentally demonstrated. The experimental results show that the switch works at low operating voltage, low cross talk, low energy loss, and insensitive to environment disturbance. It is well suited for use in the nodes of various multistage interconnection networks.
