Abstract:This paper reports a new method for the direct determination of lead and cadmium in solid soil samples by using platform graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrophotometry without chemical treatment. Agar sol is used as a suspending agent,ground and sieved sample is suspended homogeneously in the agar sol and injected into the graphite furnace by an autosampler, and lead and cadmium in the samples are determined rapidly,accurately and directly by using platform atomization and matrix modifier techniques.Thus,tedious chemical pretreatment is omitted.The results show that the method is sensitive, accurate,rapid with no interference.It has been applied to the determination of lead and cadmium in standard soil samples t and a good agreement was achieved.
