Abstract:A design procedure for integrated optical metal-clad polarizer is proposed. Both TM0 mode and TM1 mode in the medal-clad region are taken into account. Furthermore, the mode coupling at the interface between the regions with and without medal-clad is considered.The theoretical calculations are verified by experimentally fabricated Al-clad Ti:LiNbO3 polarizers with MgO buffer. The length of these Al-clad polarizers along light path is 4 mm, and the measured maximum extinction ratio is 41 dB.
