Abstract: | The temperature dependence of the spin-lattice relaxation time T1 in rhombohedral arsenic has been measured by nuclear quadrupole resonance. The relaxation time is inversely proportional to the temperature and of a magnitude which indicates that the relaxation results from the Fermi contact interaction of the conduction electrons and holes and the arsenic nuclei. The density of electrons and holes at the site of the nucleus, averaged over the Fermi surface is approximately 2.6 × 1021 carriers cm?3. |
