Abstract:The influence of contact angle on superheat of liquid in surface boiling is studied in accordance with the fluctuation theory in statistical thermodynamics. The general relations amongst superheat,contact angle and other parameters in Gibbs canonical and grand canonical ensembles are derived by using a hypothesis proposed by the author.These general relations provide the possibility to predict the superheat for any liquids in the presumed conditions. The form of them is simple and convenient in engineering application.Data obtained by using the relations for different materials are provided as examples in the paper and compared with other authors.Good agreement demonstrates the validity of the relations derived.
