Abstract:By develping the semi-empirical formula recently obtained for total cross sections of electron scattering from diatomic molecules in the intermediate- and high-energy range, the total cross sections for electron scattering from simple hydrocarbon molecules, (C 2H 4, C 2H 6 and C 3H 8) have been calculated over an incident energy range of 10-1000eV. The results agree well with other available experimental and calculations results. The developed semiempirical formula reflects that the total cross sections for electron scattering from simple hydrocarbon molecules in the intermediate-and high-energy range depend on the geometrical size of molecule quantitatively.
