Theoretical study on the velocity modulation laser spectroscopy of molcular ions

Some basic problems in the detection of molecular ions using velocity modulation spectroscopy are present in the paper. The equation of the ionic drift velocity in an ac discharge is obtained using the Langevin equation. Therefore, the velocity modulation spectral analytic equation is given, it implies that its basic line shape is the derivative of Gaussian shape and its intensity is proportional to the modulation index in the small modulation limit. Additionally, the influence of the modulation electric field on the velocity modulation spectrum is discussed in the paper. The result of the paper can be used in the selection of some experimental parameters and in the diagnosing of the plasma.
