Abstract: | With the advent of OC-192, the limits of SONET-based networking have become apparent. Routing and regenerating OC-192 signals pose serious demands on telecommunications networks; electronic routing and switching technology simply has not advanced at the pace that optical networking technology has. An "electronic bottleneck" is emerging, creating an opportunity for optical networking vendors and carriers to move forward into the next phase of telecommunications systems. In this paper we review the wavelength division multiplexing market and outline its trend. |
