Transition Selection Rules of Rare-earth in Optical Materials

Selection rules studied here tell whether the processes, such as absorption and emission, nonradiative decay, or energy transfer happen or not. They depend on the approximation adopted. A thorough analysis of these selection rules have been given in this work and the application of these selection rules have been demonstrated through a few examples with experimental data collected from the literature.
