A Production Inventory Model for Deteriorating Items with a Linear Trend in Demand and Shortages

This paper considers a production inventory model for deteriorating items with linear trend in demand and shortages. The production adjustment policy over a fixed planning period is given. The number of adjustment cycles, the times of adjustments and the production rate for each adjustment cycle over a finite time horizon are all determined in an optimal manner in order to keep the average total cost of system to a minimum. The corresponding results in the absence of shortage are also obtained, and finally some numerical examples are presented.
