| Abstract: | In this paper we study the mixed norm approximation problem by using the subset of C(X) having the weak betweenness property as an approximating set. We first introduce the concept of incompatibility of a bivariate function f(x, y) with a subset of C(X) , and then use it to establish two theorems a characterization theorem of Kolmogorov type and a uniqueness theorem for the best mixed norm approximation, which evidently improve the relevant results known to us. |
