A problem of Dyer,Porcelli, and Rosenfeld

In this paper, we will demonstrate that a conjecture of Dyer, Porcelli, and Rosenfeld is correct. In fact, we will show that ifM is any finite von Neumann factor andA is any non-zero element ofM, then there exists aT inM such that the spectrum ofT+A is disjoint from the spectrum ofT, i.e. such thatσ(T+A) ∩ σ(T)=φ.
