| Abstract: | We present a novel derivation of the Stokes equations from the Helmholtz Minimum Dissipation Principle using the Hodge decomposition theorem.The advantage of the present method is that it provides more geometric insight into the structure of the solution of the Stokes equations than other existing approaches. |
