Abstract: | Starting from the theory of cellular solids, the nonlinear theory of dry friction, and the model of a bent slender beam, a nonlinear constitutive equation for a metallic rubber is constructed. The effect of density and shape factor on the mechanical properties of the metallic rubber is studied in the cases where varies only one of the parameters or both vary simultaneously. Static experiments were carried out in every case, and based on the results found, relations between the parameters and the corresponding nonlinear constitutive equation are constructed. If the density and shape factor of a metallic rubber are known, the coefficients of the equation can be obtained, and thus the constitutive equation itself of the rubber can be predicted. |
