Prais is a social scientist (universities of Birmingham, Cambridge, Chicago); for the past fifteen years he has been responsible for a research team at the National Institute of Economic and Social Research engaged in comparisons of education, training and industrial productivity in Britain and Continental Europe. He is a Fellow of the British Academy. Roger Luxton is Head of Inspection and Advisory Services in the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham. Many schools in that authority have been involved in substantial experimental reforms in the teaching of mathematics, working in collaboration with the National Institute of Economic and Social Research |
