The Application of the Theory of Games to Mine Countermeasures Tactics

The paper discusses some of the problems involved in applyingGame Theory to military situations, for example in the selectionof the correct pay-off and the problem of the possible variabilityin the results. These problems are considered in detail in thecontext of the application of Game Theory to Mine CountermeasuresOperations of Limited Duration. It is shown how a simple finitegame may be used to provide solutions to more complicated andrealistic situations, particularly when the more complex situationcan be made to yield saddle-point solutions.
