On compact multipliers of topological algebras

It is shown that if the maximal ideal space (A) of a semisimple commutative complete metrizable locally convex algebra contains no isolated points, then every compact multiplies is trivial. In particular, compact multipliers on semisimple commutative Fréchet algebras whose maximal ideal space has no isolated points are identically zero.
