Abstract:New ligand NhydroxyNphenylpyridinecarboxamide (PPHA) and its cobalt complex Cl2 have been synthesized. The yield of PPHA and PHA)2]Cl2 is 49% and 62%, respectively. Their structure has been characterized by UV, MS, IR, NMR and XPS. The catalytic activity of the complex in the ethylbenzene oxidation by oxygen molecule has been studied. The results show that when the oxidation is carried out under the reaction conditions of t=100130, p (O2) =041 MPa and catalyst concentration=0252 mmol/L, the main product is acetophenone. The conversion of ethylbenzene increases with the rise of the reaction temperature or pressure, but changes a little with the increase of catalyst concentration. The conversion and selectivity to form acetophenone are 64% and 81% at 130, 1 MPa O2 and catalyst concentration 1 mmol/L for 6 h, respectively. Reaction time, pressure and catalyst concentration influence less on the selectivity for acetophenone.
