Abstract:A λ‐design is a family urn:x-wiley:10638539:jcd21306:equation:jcd21306-math-0001 of subsets of urn:x-wiley:10638539:jcd21306:equation:jcd21306-math-0002 such that urn:x-wiley:10638539:jcd21306:equation:jcd21306-math-0003 for all urn:x-wiley:10638539:jcd21306:equation:jcd21306-math-0004 and not all urn:x-wiley:10638539:jcd21306:equation:jcd21306-math-0005 are of the same size. Ryser's and Woodall's λ‐design conjecture states that each λ‐design can be obtained from a symmetric block design by a certain complementation procedure.
