Total width of the lowest T = 2 state in 24Mg

By analyzing thick-target excitation functions of the $\text{E}{}_{\mathrm{<mtext>p</mtext>}}\text{= 3906}\text{keV}{}^{23}\text{Na}\text{(}\text{p}\text{, γ)}$ resonance we have determined Γ_c.m ≦ 530⁺⁴⁰_?70 eV for the width of the lowest T = 2 state of ²⁴Mg. The beam energy resolution function was measured using a narrow ²⁷Al(p, γ) resonance at E_p = 3671 keV, for which we obtain Γ_c.m. = 180 ±50 eV.
